((OOC: Normally I would rp out the Tapping Ceremony but with so many people without Weyrling characters I'm going to write out the Ceremony and have the actual celebration begin at the end))
The night had arrived for the Weyrling Dragons and their riders to become full fledged adults. D'seus arrived without his lover as she had to support A'lez as Weyrwoman, and be in his company when they arrived. Being a strong enough man to know when something was for duty and something was not, he did keep his jealousy to himself.
Tonight was not about them. Tonight was about the youngsters before them. All of the Weyrling Class had arrived as expected. There were some late arrivals as usual but they had been prepared for that.
A'lez started off the ceremony with the first pick. Although most people would have expected a Bronze to be chosen first, this rider was given a great honor of being chosen before the Bronzeriders. D'ero of Brown Horuth was first to join Illume Wing. As the Wingleaders all chose in succession after A'lez, it was next D'seus who would choose. He knew that having the only Bronze in his wing was problematic for future Wingleadership and thus he tapped B'ren of Bronze Zeuth for Shadow Wing. Next to be tapped for Illume was J'zen of Blue Tyreth. D'seus was going to need all different kinds of riders so he then took a risk and tapped Hu'sik of Blue Anubith. As the Weyrlings dwindled and adult wing rider numbers grew the new riders were welcomed warmly into their new Wings. The Wings then standed thus:
Illume Wing
Wingleader Bronze Nienoth, A'lez - (played by Marnark) Wingsecond Bronze Khorshath, A'miri Bronze Rath, Or'yn (HG) Brown Horuth, D'ero (Ise) Brown Poseideth, K'dyn (FT) Brown Remoth Brown Elyreth Wingthird: Blue Torzoth Searchrider: Blue Evanoth, L'res Blue Kavanth Blue Tyreth, J'zen (Yuu) Blue Lugth, Solera (dragon) Green Keriath Green Alyrath, Toyi ( Marnark) Green Tersath Green Corsanth Green Klaseth, Selesi (dragon) Green Mirabath Green Skadyth Green Isith Green Aphrioth Green Cupith, Vaylee (HG) Green Freyath, Phaerie (FT) Green Morriganth, Lyunne(magic) Green Artemth, Merielle

When the tapping ceremony ended, it was time for the Weyr to celebrate the success of their new dragonriders. In other words a great excuse to get completely tanked, dance and eat as much as they want.
((Everyone who resides at the Weyr is invited. No posting order))

To say the least, D’ero had been surprised when his name had been called first. Not only was he just a brown rider, but he was a Northerner. It had taken him a moment to realize that it was him they had called first and he had humbly taken his place as the first new rider to the Illume Wing. As always he had taken the whole thing quite seriously and had stood there with the most neutral look on his face while some of the others around him whispered in excitement to their friends who joined them in their wing. The brown rider was happy when the whole thing was over and he could join everyone for the celebration. He had never been one to go looking for attention and felt better when he could just blend in with the crowd. He kept an eye out for Jarshan, not sure if she would be coming to this or if she was out doing patrols. He said hello to the few people he knew better, and congratulated everyone that had graduated with him. Even though big parties were not his thing, he was enjoying himself here. Free wine helped as well. After a few glasses he had lightened up and seemed to have a trace of a sense of humor. Though he still avoided the dancing, instead choosing to stay far away from the dance floor to avoid being forced to go out there.

Marlaey laughed and clapped along with the crowd when they welcomed the last of the riders to their new wings. She was so pleased that D'ero had been given the honour of being chosen first. He and Horuth definitely deserved it. Even now she could see him standing seriously among his new wingmates.
She beamed up at Or'yn too when he joined Illume Wing giving him a big wave. She felt such pride in her that they had all graduated together. Her weyr was such a happy place to be right now that she had the sudden urge to hug anyone and everyone in sight! Perhaps tonight she would dance and not feel embarrassed about it?
~~~~
Parallel watched the Wings choose their newest members with a little envy. The Touching was playing heavily on his mind as he smiled graciously at anyone who glanced his way. He dearly wanted to become a dragonrider, to be partnered with one of the great beasts of Pern.
Kialio chirruped into existence beside him, landing on his shoulder. The little bronze snuffled about for food, badgering his owner in the process. Retrieving some bread from the nearest table, Parallel quickly shut the squeaking fire lizard up before he drew too much attention to them. Kialio chewed happily on his piece of bread, curling his tail around Par's neck. Sighing amusedly, Parallel stroked his pet's chest. "You can be quite a handful sometimes, y'know that don't you, little man?" A sudden image of a much larger dragon hatchling creeling for food and attention crossed his mind.
What was he getting himself into here?
Shadow Wingleader D'seus of Bronze Zorometh
The Shadow Wingleader enjoyed this part of leading a wing.Tomorrow at practice probably not so much. They would have to learn to get in sync with the Wing. No amount of training could prepare them for being part of a wing. Everyone would need to make adjustments. Still he was confident in the riders he had selected. D'seus had known after interviews that B'ren would be a good fit for his wing. He would not clash with the people in the wing as he was much like himself.
The others he had chosen were equally good riders and all had a good feel about them. He did not regret a single choice. R'gar was a strong young man, very steady and he had healer training which would come in handy at some point. C'mar was equally strong though seemed to have a mischievious side. Nothing wrong with that, meant the youth was cunning and probably able to handle difficult situations well.
Hu'sik, while his interview had left both himself and A'lez concerned about how he would do in a wing, D'seus was going to risk it. the youth was good at taking direction and perhaps not a great communicator. Something he could work on when he became comfortable with his wing mates. Anaryn was a mother already and hopefully that meant she would not feel the need to have another baby anytime soon. She was a sweet young woman who would hopefully help meld the wing together.
Whereas his other two greenriders were more likely to cause rifts. N'var was someone to be watched. He had opted to be the one to do it. He trusted that all his wing members do what they were meant to do but he felt better having N'var closer so he could keep an eye on him. Then there was Razia. She was a tough young woman with excellent sparring skills, learned from a family of guards. Her sister was even in the Shield. D'seus was confident she would excel in Shadow Wing.
As soon as the ceremony was over, D'seus went to sit at the Head Table where the Wingleaders and Weyrleaders sat during feasts. A'lez should be first to dance with the Weyrwoman and then D'seus could monopolize her as much as he wanted.
Dragon Shield Member Kyrah, Gold Firelizard Eve, Feline Leeto
The Ceremony went off without a hitch. Everyone seemed happy that the Weyrlings had made it through training and were now adults. Adding a practically unheard of number of thirty six dragons to the Weyrs numbers. Thankfully for the Weyrlingmaster the next clutch had proven to be much smaller. Though perhaps no less troublesome. Kyrah did not like celebrations. They made her nervous.
It was at times like these the Weyr was most vulnerable. And it was also at times like these that she had to be on her best behavior. In the past she had not been very good at celebrations. She never drank but she had gotten into fights more than once, though most of them were verbal arguments. Ky was on edge around so many inebriated and merry people. She wished mostly for a chance to escape but Eriol had made it clear the Shield that were not out on patrol were to make an appearance.
They needed to show off for Raelwyn. To prove that they were the people that she said they were. To make sure that everyone at the Weyr saw them as part of the whole. Despite being gone so often from the Weyr all Shield members felt strongly for their home and would never betray that feeling. They were mostly just anti-social. Preferring to keep their heads clear and focused. Tonight was about them forming new bonds with people at the Weyr. Kyrah's only wish was that her mother had not made her dress nicely.
The red head wore a floor length, V-neck, dress of deep forest green. The material might not be the nicest the South had to offer but neither was it the worst. Kyrah was just glad it covered her up for the most part. She had no real bust to speak of so the v-neck showed only her neck and upper chest. Her arms were exposed as the dress had short sleeves. As long as she didn't have to dance, she supposed the evening would go well. Eve and Leeto were lucky. They got to stay home and sleep. [/img] Wingrider Or'yn of Bronze Rath
The youngest Weyrling to graduate, the Bronzerider was not surprised nor upset that he did not get chosen first. He was lucky to be sixteen this Turn or he would have had to wait to graduate until he was sixteen. The short boy made his way to his new wing when he was tapped by A'lez. The grin on his face was genuine for he had hoped to get into one of the most prestigious wings at the Weyr.
Or'yn was welcomed into Illume Wing by the other members including some that had also been tapped by the Weyrleader. He was in the Weyrleader's Wing which as everyone knew was the most prestigious Wing for however long the Wingleader remained Weyrleader. The first person he went to congratulate after the ceremony, besides his very smug Bronze, was D'ero. They were in the same wing now, so he might as well talk to him first.
Following the other boy away from the dance floor, Or'yn finally caught up to him. "Hey D'ero, Congratulations! First pick! That is sooo awesome!" The younger boy came up. He had reached about 5'7" at this point and was still not taller than most of the women at the Weyr. It was hard for most to believe he rode a Bronze dragon.
"Hope they have a variety of bubbly pies. I could eat them all night!" He was obviously excited. Even his pale cheeks were flushed from the exhilaration of it all. He was now a full fledged, Dragonrider of Pern. And I a Dragon of Pern. We have our own weyr, which will be much more comfortable. Tomorrow we meet all our Wing mates for practice... Before the Bronze could say anymore Or'yn added out loud, "Tonight we celebrate."
Wingrider & Dragon Healer Vaylee of Green Cupith
The young blonde woman waited patiently for her name to be called. She was happy for each person who joined a wing but more glad when she saw friends get tapped. Eventually it was her turn to be tapped for a wing. And what a wing to be in, she thought to herself. The Weyrleaders Wing was a wonderful place to start in the big scheme of things at the Weyr. She would be seen as an excellent Wingrider from the start. Riding the smallest dragon at the Weyr had its advantages. Cupith was very very fast. Although she was unable to last as long endurance wise as the other greens.
Still, Vaylee was certain, she and Cupith would fit in great with Illume Wing. When the ceremony was over, the beautiful young wingrider went in search of someone to make her dance partner for the evening. Knowing B'ren would be busy tracking down Gold Candidates, she would have to find someone else, perhaps Zayten would do the honors? Or perhaps someone else. She would have to scan the people around and see whom she would prefer to spend the evening with.
As usual Vaylee was ready for a party. Her dress was a ruby red color which stood out against her pale skin, blue eyes and blonde hair. It was strapless, and tight at the top with a sweetheart neckline, once at the waist the skirt billowed out beneath her. She wore the red stoned necklace her foster father had bought for her and a few gold bangles at her wrist. This being the first time in a long time, she wore her hair down.
Cupith commented, You look enchanting. Now find someone to have some fun dancing and feasting with. The wistful tone of the green's mind voice told Vaylee that the dragon wished she were there. Before Vaylee could console the green though it seemed Cupith had found dragon friends to talk to.
Wingrider N'var of Green Nemesyth, Firelizard Green Briar
N'var was seething on the inside. He should have been chosen first. Not D'ero. What were the leaders of the Weyr thinking? Sure the other man was nice enough but he had no real drive. At least not as far as N'var had seen. Nemesyth agreed, I am the best dragon around and I refuse to have us be chosen last. Not being first was bad enough. N'var knew she would be upset. Should have seen it coming actually given that his interview had not been stellar.
He was not chosen last but he was chosen after Razia. Of ALL people, it had to be the one he hated the most. And now they were in Shadow Wing together. Oh Faranth, give a guy a break! He bemoaned his situation internally while on the outside he wore a bright smile and seemed incredibly happy about being tapped. Shadow Wing would be a good wing to be in, in the future.
N'var had eyes, he knew whom the Weyrwoman preferred of the two Wingleaders and it would not be long before Shadow Wing was the Weyrleader's wing again. Therefore he considered Shadow the better wing and was more than happy to have been placed there. It was simply unfortunate that he had to be wingmates with Razia and Sulisanth.
The young dragonrider spent a good deal of time dressing up for this occasion. Wearing the best outfit he could find for himself at the Weyr. He slicked his dark brown hair back and made certain he was cleaner than a healer's surgery room. He knew with whom he'd be spending his time with. The only person he actually enjoyed spending time with, K'dyn.
No one would be surprised by the fact that he congratulated none of them. As soon as it was possible he moved away from his new wing mates and found a place to sit with K'dyn. Candidate Laure Weyr ceremonies were quite different from what she had expected. The young woman had watched closely the goings on between riders, Wingleaders and the new additions. How wonderful it must feel to be one of them. To have all your training pay off and allow you to complete your dream of being a dragonrider. It would be surreal to her. Even watching was a bit surreal though she knew this was normal for the Weyr.
After the ceremony there would be feasting and dancing. Earlier in the day she had helped prepare food for the feast and clean the Weyrhall. She was trying to get as much done as possible when she was given chores. Laure wanted to stay here and to do so she needed to be well liked. People who worked hard were always well liked where she was from.
She was wearing some hand me down dress, from some girl Zayten knew. It had to be hemmed quite a bit for her to wear it but it did fit. The color of the gown was a light blue. It was rather plainly made but she had refused anything more extravagant. Seeing Zayten's sisters she understood now why he had thought her under dressed. Laure tried hard not to stare at them. Never had she seen identical twins before and it was a bit disconcerting. Probably didn't help that they were both very pretty.
Feeling plain and unworthy did little to settle her nerves. No doubt there would be some wine around shortly. Hopefully some wine would calm her nerves. Feasting sounded wonderful but dancing was scary. She was quite certain if she tried the other person would have wounded feet.
Hu'sik had been a bit nervous about the tapping ceremony. It wasn't too bad, though, and now he had an entirely new wing of riders, many of whom he didn't know. This would be his chance to make friends that would stick with him for the rest of his life. And if he wasn't careful, he might end up with some enemies as well. He certainly didn't plan on that kind of thing. He waited through the rest of the ceremony, eager to find out who would be in the same wing as he. When the entire thing had been completed he stood back by himself for a bit, thinking about it. They'd finally finished being weyrlings. They would get to train as full-fledged dragonriders now, not as people preparing to being them. It was a big step in life, and it was also something nice to think about.
But it also brought up the worry of ever going home. They were even more solidly founded into the Weyr now. With every passing day, it seemed to Hu'sik that there was less and less chance they were ever going to get back home. But perhaps that wasn't all of a bad thing. If he'd never come in the first place, he never would have found Anubith. And, no matter what happened, he had a friend for life. That was something he was grateful for, even if the rest of his future was uncertain.
B’ren may not have been the first person named but that was ok. If D’seus had still been Weyrleader then he would have been the first. So really, the first person called for Shadow Wing was just as good as being the first over all. Plus, he had the bronze. And that D’ero guy was just so serious and boring. Heck, even after getting the most sought after spot, the guy still looked so stiff. B’ren looked far more relaxed and natural (and good looking) when his name was called. While the other names had been called, B’ren had been polite and respectful, clapping for all of them but not getting too loud. Unless he knew the person. For those he was closer to he was a little louder and slightly more obnoxious. But graduations were suppose to be a fun and loud thing, otherwise he might have toned it down a little. Overall he was happy with who had gone to what wing. He was a little disappointed that neither Vaylee nor Zaylee were on his wing but that was probably for the best, he was easily distracted by the twins. And even having N’var and Razia on his wing wasn’t too bad, on their own both green riders were good people. It was only when they were put together that bad things had a habit of happening. He was going to have to start taking bets on how long it would take the two to get in another fight… Once everyone had been tapped, the party really got started. B’ren passed up the chance to get some free drinks and instead made a beeline right for one of the gold candidates. While his five turn plan had been to earn the rank of Wingleader, his seven turn plan was for him to be Weyrleader, or at least jr. Weyrleader. He had been the one to find Laure so he didn’t have to go rush to visit her yet. And he had spoken to that Haven candidate Lyndel as well, at least she had pretended to be charmed by him. He said hello to people he went by, shaking hands with a couple of them and beaming proudly before he ‘accidently’ bumped into Marlaey. “Oh! So sorry there Marlaey, I didn’t hurt you did I? Or step on your feet, that’d be an awful way to start the evening, have some big oaf tromp all over your feet before you get the chance to dance.” He put his hand lightly on her shoulder, making sure she was already before he gave her a hug, a big grin on his face. “Oh so good to be done with all that. This has got to be the best day. No wait, second, Impressing Zeuth will always be the first. Oh hey and you’re going to be standing at the next hatching aren’t you?”
Wingrider J'zen of Blue Tyreth The ceremony was less formal than J'zen expected, but that didn't stop the roiling of his gut. This was the moment he had striven for. A chance to formally be a part of the Weyr. This was his moment to cease being an unknown weyrling and join the esteemed ranks of the riders. It was also his chance at better living quarters. The harper could hear his dragon's laughter in his mind from his last thought. Seriously though, he wanted those new quarters. All thoughts were chased from his head as the actual touching part of the whole graduation affair began. There were two possible wings that he could be sorted into. The Shadow Wing, the wing led by the weyrleader and the wing of his choice and the Illume Wing, the wing that he hadn't really given much thought to. The first rider's of each wing were chosen rather quickly and were predictably of higher rank. Sure the whole Brown before bronze was a shock but it wasn't as if the man wingleader had chosen a Green, which would have amused J'zen to no end. J'zen blinked in surprise as a soft but firm weight on his shoulder alerted him to the fact that he had just been chosen for a wing. Illume Wing, his frazzled mind supplied, the wing he hadn't thought about, but none of that mattered. He had been chosen before a Bronze. Illume Wing had a Blue before a Bronze, and that Blue was him. Tyreth preened a bit in the background as J'zen straightened his back just a little more and allowed a genuine grin to flash across his usually smirking lips. Today was a good day. He couldn't wait to see his new weyr.
Trelia smiled as she was dressed in a red dress for the special event and stood in the back of the weyr hall listening as the weyrlings we're announced for the tapping ceremony. She was leaning against a wall noticing there we're mostly riders around and mused that one day this would be her. The young woman might be tapped into a fighting wing or ride a gold. A smile was on her face then she waited till it was over and went over to join the festivities. When she went over to a drudge that was serving wine and got a small glass of it then stayed quiet. It was a odd occurence to see these many people in one area and hoped that she would one day be one of them.
She noticed that there was only one new bronze among the new riders and knew them to be rare. Trelia had little doubt that the new bronze would one day try to mate with the queen in the egg. The young man was her age and it made her feel better that they we're all young just starting out. When she found some food being passed around and got some food from a platter. It was small roll of meat in a roll and smiled at the scene.
Even though he'd never been directly related to dragons himself (except through his siblings), Ajallvon had always tried to make an appearance at the ceremonies and festivals the Weyr held to celebrate their dragonriders. Even though every Weyrling graduation included the tapping ceremony, it never really felt mundane to Ajallvon. Rather, it was exciting to find out which rider was going to end up in which wing. The wing they were chosen for could change who they were for the rest of their life. True, it didn't always do that, but the fact that it could was definitely something. They would form bonds with the people in their wings, and friendships would form and change, all based on just one simple ceremony. Ajallvon had never been through it himself, of course, but someday perhaps he would, and he knew that it would be a very rewarding experience, if not somewhat unnerving as well.
As exciting as it might be for him to watch the ceremony, Ajallvon had stayed in the back of the hall, where there were less people, and watched it from there. It made it harder to see the actual ceremony occur, but he most certainly preferred it to being squashed in between the rest of the people in the Weyr who had shown up to watch. The smell of food was also wafting across, and it made him hungry. When the ceremony had ended, he drifted over to the food, grabbed himself a plate of some of the things he liked, and headed back to where he had been. Everyone was beginning to socialize, and soon there would be a full-fledged party going on. Ajallvon wasn't looking forward to how overpowering the smell of wine would be, but he knew there were people besides him that it annoyed. It just annoyed the rest of them later. He usually never socialized when there was wine around, and he'd already planned to just hang out and watch everybody. He'd done it plenty of times before, and it wasn't all that bad.
Rinkin walked in wearing a pair of brown pants and a white shirt along with a leather vest. He had come to see what all the fuss was about and of course there was one rider that was on the young candidate's mind. The young man walked over to her and loved the deep forest green dress that she was wearing. It seemed to show off her figure and it made him smile. "You look great this evening," said Rinkin as he smiled at her. He knew that he was only a candidate yet was full of confidence and in his life had never been one to back down. The candidate didn't care that she was a shield member and had it bad for her. She seemed to have a fire and knew that might as well try. Rinkin had nothing to really lose and hoped that she might say yes to just one dance. "Will dance with me," asked Rinkin as he looked at her giving her big eyes and hoped that she would say yes? It was a hard think thing for a candidate to go up to a shield member and ask them for a dance.
So she hadn’t been called first. No big surprise, she was just a green rider after all. She had listened to the names that were called out until she finally heard her own. She was now a rider for Shadow Wing, not a bad wing to be in from the looks of it. Lots of cute boys at least. She grinned as she was tapped, having to shoot a smug look at N’var, though he seemed to be too busy pouting to have noticed it. Her feelings of pride only lasted until the next Shadow Wing rider was called. Should could barely stop herself from shrieking as it was N’var who joined her wing next. She managed to fake a few claps and keep some kind of smile on her face as she seethed on the inside. Why did N’var have to ruin EVERYTHING ! She had been so proud to be in Shadow Wing and now she was stuck with that stuck up, good for nothing jerk of a Northerner. At least he seemed to be in a bad mood now too, and any bit of misery that N’var suffered brought joy to Razia. Once the whole thing was over with, Razia smoothed out dress she wore, a one shoulder, pale yellow gown that showed her curves. She knew her sister would be around and started looking around for her, taking a glass of wine that was offered to her as she congratulated some of her fellow riders, shooting daggers at N’var every once in a while. Well. It was good to know that someone in her family had ended up with some curves. In fact, Akroma was pretty sure that Razia had ended up with her boobs, plus Serra’s. It was the only way to explain how she had ended up so busty while the two older sisters were left with far slimmer bust lines. Not that Akroma was jealous of such things, she was part of the Shield and a large bust would only be a pain. Plus, none of the Shield girls were that curvy. They were all a bit flat in the chest, which made events like this awkward. While she loved to support her sister, having to dress up was something Razia enjoyed far more. She couldn’t get out of dressing up either so Akroma had finally pulled out the one dress she owned. A plum colored dress that stopped at her knees. She at least looked nice though she didn’t stand out nearly as much as people like Vaylee and Razia did. Of course this wasn’t about her, the graduation was for the new riders. The Shield woman had taken note of where all the Northerners had gone, they had been split pretty evenly between the two wings and their leaders had been separated as well. She idly wondered if it had been done like that on purpose or just by chance. Once the ceremony was over, Akroma started making her way through the crowd, catching up to her sister. The two women hugged each other, Razia looking slightly stunned that her oldest sister not only owned a dress but knew how to wear it. Akroma ignored the teasing, instead keeping the conversation on the new wings and the new weyr that Razia would now be able to move into.
D’ero looked down at Or’yn came up and greeted him. The bronze rider was six turns younger then him and a good nine inches shorter. D’ero was pretty sure he also weighed twice as much as the kid. At least he knew he wasn’t the only one who was some times surprised that Or’yn had impressed to a bronze. Still, Or’yn was a friendly guy and had always been nice to him, and had even been nice to N’var. Anyone who could deal with the difficult green rider earned points in D’ero’s book. “Thank you. I wasn’t expecting anything like that. I was just happy to be placed in a wing.” He took a sip of his wine, trying to hide the little smile he had as he watched just how excited the younger man seemed to be. Some of the other new rider had looked so upset or bothered by their wings, especially some of the other Northerners. It was refreshing to see someone who was just over joyed by it all. “I’m sure there are plenty of pies for you in all sorts of different flavors. If not, I believe I saw Emera. Maybe you can talk her into making a special request from the kitchens.” Taking a look around, D’ero used his height to his advantage and plucked another drink from one of the servers. He handed it to Or’yn and held his up in a small little toast. “Try not to celebrate too hard, I have a feeling that A’lez is going to work us extra hard tomorrow morning.”
Tucking the longer strands of her hair behind her ears, Marlaey made her way amiably through the crowd, congratulating any new wing members as she saw them. All of a sudden one of said group bumped into her! Turning to see, she found B'ren standing before her. "B'ren!", she beamed, "No no, don't worry about me, I'm alright, there are worse things in life than bumps and trodden on feet! But anyway, Congratulations! Shadow Wing! You and Zeuth must be really pleased." At his invitation she hugged him tightly, not one to hold back with this much excitement bubbling inside her.
"The next hatching? Oh yes! I'm standing for that!" she grinned at him, "I was asked to stand for the gold, but to be honest I would be happy with any healthy dragon! I took part in the touching just recently, but we weren't allowed near the golden egg. Which I suppose is understandable."
Marlaey hadn't spent much time with B'ren before, but she knew he was a bronzerider and what that meant. He was ambitious and she was a gold candidate, so it made sense he'd come to talk to her. But she didn't mind very much, she wasn't the type to judge people that quickly. He seemed nice enough so far at any rate!
Kialio climbed onto Parallel's head, peering around from his favourite vantage point. "You looking for anything in particular?", Par questioned him. Suddenly leaping into the air, Kialio flew off to the nearest table of food. Weaving through the crowd, Parallel followed his bronze fire lizard. Always thinking with his stomach, Par thought as he found the little flit teetering on the edge of the table. A large plate of pasties sat before him. "Oh no you don't." Picking him up and deftly placing him back on his shoulder, Par noticed another young man across from him. Still new at the weyr he found it difult to remember who everyone was. Trying to connect the face with a name, he had a vague idea of who it might be.
"Ajallvon?", he asked, absentmindedly breaking a pasty apart for Kialio. "Hi there, I'm Parallel."
Good grief. She had a stalker. Kyrah was not as pleased to see him as he apparently was to see her. The red head had sworn off relations of any kind with men or women a long time ago. They were distracting and she needed a clear head in her line of work. Her blue eyes shifted from the Candidate to the dance floor. No way. Did he think she was going to dance at all? No, she came here to support the Weyrwoman and because she was commanded to attend.
"Thank you but I don't dance." She replied as cordially as she could manage. Perhaps a normal person would admire his courage at coming to ask her but Kyrah was nothing if not abnormal. She was rather cold toward people she did not know and this young man's fascination with her made her nervous. The only people she felt comfortable around were family and shield. Not another human could lighten her mood but those that fell into that category.
"There are plenty of other girls who would be happy to dance..." She added, hoping that he would take the hint and go find someone else to pursue. Maybe she should drink tonight after all. Might keep her from killing anyone here.
---
Or'yn was all smiles. "Come now, you worked hard. You deserved some recognition for it. Enjoy the moment!" The happy youth was thinking about how he was going to enjoy this moment himself. There was the bubbly pie situation and the plenty of friends around situation but he'd really like to spend time with someone who would perhaps dance with him. He should hunt down and charm a woman like B'ren did so easily. Even now he was flirting with Marlaey.
"Rath will make certain I don't do anything too stupid." Of course that would not preclude him from having a good time but it would keep him from having too much fun. Rath was a much more level headed fellow than he was himself. Or'yn seemed to float through life with an effervescence unknown to most people. He was never in a bad mood it seemed.
And he was never jealous of the other riders. He was happy with what he had and did not strive to have more than he did get. Why would he need to be a Wingleader or a Weyrleader. Both of those things required more time and energy than he wanted to put forth. So grabbing a drink for himself he raised his glass to D'ero. "Here is to a wonderful night, plenty of food to eat, wine to drink, music to dance to and beautiful women to enjoy it with."
After his toast, he took a swig and excused himself from D'ero's presence. It was time to find that beautiful girl to dance with. Now if only he knew where to start. Or'yn wondered if he should take lessons from B'ren.
Rinkin looked at her with a look of disbelief then said, "Okay," with a look of disappointment. He looked around then one last look back at her then deceided he would take her advice. The young candidate wouldn't dare to go up to the other women there. He didn't see any other candidates that caught his interest and knew that the riders would just laugh at him. While he went over to get a drink then sat down in a chair to just watch.
He would have to wait till he impressed a dragon then maybe it would get somebody's attention. Rinkin didn't find any other interesting and was almost sulking because he didn't get his way. The candidate looked around then waited to see what would happen and went to get some food at least this brought on edible food. While he ate a few different desserts and thought at least enjoy the food for tonight.
