Finding a moment’s time between candidates and wingdrills, S’nuo found his stomach growling fiercely. Literally lifting up his shirt to regard the firm muscle that complained below it, he put his shirt back down as he looked up at his blue dragon in the other room. I guess I should go get some food. he admitted under the accusation of the dragon’s gaze.
Dimglow. When was the last time you ate? Yesterday. Your suppose to eat twice a day at least! Are you hungry? No. I ate yesterday, remember?
Losing sight in the dragon’s logic, he shook his head and waved off the blue dragon laying on his stone couch. “Alright, I’ll be back shortly. Don’t eat anyone.” He said as he walked out of his new weyr upon the bowl floor.
I did NOT eat that feline! The dragon shouted back in protest and defense as S’nuo properly ignored him and made his way to the WeyrHall with a chuckle threatening his lips. Navigating his way through the slight crowd, S’nuo wondered what time it was having lost track a while ago. The sun was not yet setting, so the best guess he could make was that it was before dinner time, though by how much he was not sure.
Finding some cold meatrolls that had not yet been eaten or taken away, S’nuo adjusted his guess to be a candlemark or so after lunch. Even so, the cold food did not bother him as he snatched up two and looked for a place to sit.

It seemed every time she had thought about going to the Candidate Master's office he was always busy with this person or that one other candidate. It'd been a sevendays of that happening every sharding time she thought about going, and today earlier in the morning had been no different. So Nayza had decided to go off and do something productive -- like help around the kitchens or something. She liked cooking, had some experience on it, and the women were always more than pleased to have an extra set of hands giving them some aid. As evening rolled in the female's stomach begun to pester her for a nice meal, at least a decent sized snack, and it was the much older woman next to her that soon ushered the girl to wash her ands and go get something to eat already.
"Now, now, we can't have candidates starving -- much less in the kitchen of all places! You've been a wonderful help dear, go take a nice break and enjoy some of today's cooking." "Alright, Medea, you win. I'm going, see, going!"
The older woman gave a pleased smile, watching the girl pick some rolls and a cup of warm klah before walking out of the hidden kitchen areas and over to the place most members of the Weyr used for food consumption. As much as the girl was a good help around Medea couldn't help but worry about her spending so much time here, instead of out there getting to know the other candidates or something. She understood she was an arrival from the recently raid of Haven -- but aside from the eventual mournful sigh that sometimes escaped the brunette, and that hinted to Medea that something troubled her mind, the older woman hadn't been able to get a pip out of her about it.
Still, being cooped up in here all day couldn't be good.
She hadn't given the room much of a scan, the lack of noise from it making the candidate thin all the dragonriders were out and about in their business, and so she had made a beeline for the nearest table and sat down -- S'nuo and his platter behind her back a few feet away and closer to where the food was usually served by. The mug was gingerly placed upon the table before the teen gave a rather long sigh to unwind, a free hand running across her brunette locks as she felt er mind wandering once more.
"Food. Now."
The words were spoken softly, barely aloud enough for S'nuo to hear, as Nayza attempted to reel in her wandering mind once more and make it focus. It was meal time, shard it, she refused to be all gloomy while feeding herself. Besides, mourning period was over -- Nayza was conscious that it was time to move on and work with what she had to do... Which meant visiting the Candidate Master. With a sigh she picked up the first roll, looking at if for a few moments before finally giving a gentle bite at one of the sides and chewing delicately.
She'd drop by his office once more after this meal, maybe she'd have better luck then.

“Food is always welcome now, though more food later on is rarely seen as a bad thing.” The candidate master said, an amused smirk on his lips as he teased the young woman. For once, he found himself in a strange position. Despite his amazing ability and knack with faces and names – and even names without faces – he found himself with no name coming easily to his mind for this one. Well, that would have to be quickly remedied, he had a reputation to keep after all.
Moving to sit next to her without bothering to ask if the seat was empty as half the Weyrhall was vacated, he set down the rolls before eyeing her own mug. “Ah, now see, that looks splendid. Excuse me.” Leaving her with his two cold rolls, S’nuo turned back to the table with cold food, it took him a moment before he found some of the older Klah. It had become room temperature, but he did not mind as long as it still helped to keep the busy man going.
Returning to the table and the woman there, he took his seat and gave her a smile. “You look distracted. Need someone to talk to?"

“Food is always welcome now, though more food later on is rarely seen as a bad thing.”
Surprised by the streams of words and, more importantly, the new voice the brunette had managed to jump ever so slightly in her chair, turning to spot the older man as he made his way over to her table and gingerly sat down -- no question no nothing. A faintly amused smile lined her lips at this, and studying his physic slightly as he moved away to fetch some klah the female was sure he had to be a dragonrider. He certainly didn't look like a drudge after all. With a faint shake of her head she took another sip of the klah, her spirits gently cheered slightly more. She had missed this, she realized.
Dragonriders were usually not fidgety like candidates of weyrlings, and most (since there is always the exception) were open and nice enough towards other members of the Weyr, regardless if they knew them or not. If anything a Weyr was like a huge family, each one working at what they did best to help everyone else that lived in it -- humans, dragons, firelizards and everything else. As the man returned and took his seat she was a bit surprised by his next words, a faint smile returning once again to her lips as she barely let out the faintest of chuckles.
"I guess I have been quite distracted these past sevendays... If you don't mind lending an ear to a silly candidate I would very much appreciate your offer." She stretched out her right hand, offering it for a shake to the man she would be sharing lunch with. "I'm Nayza."

Hearing the young woman mention that she could use a listening ear even as she mentioned herself as a candidate, S’nuo could not help but smile behind his mug of Klah as he took a drink. Well he didn’t feel so bad not recognizing her or having her name at ready as she obviously did not recognize him either. Considering his options and knowing he would rarely have the opportunity to have a candidate speak openly to him while he was the Candidate Master, he decided to have a go at it.
“It’s nice to meet you Nayza. And why on Pern would I think you were a silly candidate for having worries and concerns? Everyone has a reason to be distracted once in a while.” Putting down the mug as he deftly dodged offering his own name, he picked up one of the meat rolls, tearing it apart before putting a small piece in his mouth.
“Please, by all means, talk away little lady.” He said while chewing and giving her a comforting (though close lipped) smile in hopes of reassuring her. Of course, if she asked for his name he would not further dodge the question, but he was interested in what she had to say before revealing that he was, in fact, going to be her new candidate master.

Really, it wasn't a wonder the woman didn't recognize S'nuo for who he was --or rather the rank and tasks he had in the Weyr. She had never met him before in her life after all, though had she had his name the brunette would have probably pieced it all together pretty quickly. Still, her brain hadn't been focused these past days, and it showed when she completely missed the fact that the dragonrider hadn't introduced himself in return.
"I consider myself silly since it's something I should already understand enough. Though I guess one can't ever understand anything fully..."
Really, she'd experienced first hand how fragile life could be, hadn't her mother just been whisked away by an illness? Sure, the woman was entering her later years, but it wasn't as if she was weak. That woman was as strong as a runner, and yet even she couldn't cheat death. And dragonriders... They were always filled with danger: getting mauled on the sands, an aerial drill gone wrong... Faranth forbid if thread actually started raining down once more as many expected.
But it just... It wasn't fair. Out of all these things, even a wrong trip between would have been more acceptable to the young woman that the true and cruel reality. She remembered how loyal her cothold was to the Weyr, they adored the riders and their dragons -- and according to belief it was the same with all the other cotholds around the Southern Continent. Then why... Why would a few do such a terrible thing? Why?!
A long sigh left her lips as the female raised up a hand to rub the temples of her forehead slightly, before glancing at the rider and giving an apologetic and slightly mournful smile.
"Still, I would absolutely hate dampening the mood -- especially your mood -- around lunch, it'd be quite impolite of me really. Perhaps once we're done?"
Yes, there was no reason to ruin the poor rider's lunch time -- no wander he was a busy man already, having come to eat so very late to begin with. To be saddled with her at meal time was probably already a big enough burden on the dragonrider, even if his smile tried to reassure her. And while she did, perhaps a bit more desperately than she would like to admit to herself, relished the chance to talk and empty her mind with someone else it just seemed even more unfair to inconvenience the man -- and even more perhaps even end up spoiling his lunch.

S’nuo found himself pleased at first with how distracted the young woman seemed to be, having not even noticed that he didn’t give his own name in return. Taking another bite of his roll, he listened intently as she mentioned that she was simply being silly. No, people defiantly did not understand everything fully. Even himself was learning new things every day, if you didn’t you wouldn’t be a very productive person.
A third bite for the hungry man finished off the first roll as he picked up the second one. Dampening the mood? Was there a mood to lunch beyond the young woman making him curious and to be frank a little worried? Another two bites finished off the second roll and he found himself licking his fingers even as she mentioned that they should finish the discussion when they were done eating.
Looking down at his empty plate then to his half empty mug, he picked it up and made a point of finishing that off as well just for dramatic effect. Setting it down as he licked his upper lip clean, he gave her a gentle smile. “Well, I’m done. So you don’t have to worry about ruining my lunch, Nayza.” He said reassuringly.
Leaning back slightly, he glanced around he WeyrHall before looking back at the young woman. She was distracted and avoiding the topic. In fact, he was even getting the feeling that she was slightly distressed. Well as his candidate, that would never do. Leaning forward once more, he put his elbows on the table and dropped his voice a little more. “Nayza, if you are uncomfortable in the WeyrHall we can go to my office in the Candidate Barracks and speak there behind closed doors.”

The young woman couldn't help but chuckle slightly as S'nuo made quick work of his meal, feeling a tad bit guilty at perhaps being the reason behind his suddenly fast consumption of it all. She herself was down to 3/4ths of her second and final roll, though to be honest she didn't felt as if taking a single more bite. Deciding not to waste the food she excused herself for a moment, picking some wax paper and folding the remains of the roll neatly inside it,before storing it away in her wherhide waist pouch. Maye she could snack on it later in the day, when her appetite returned to her.
His next offer of privacy finally clued the brunette as to who she was speaking to, a look of surprise and mild shock crossing her face for a few moments before she considered his offer. While there wasn't a soul around as of now, the weyrhall was an open and public place, meaning more people could get in at any time. Perhaps a private office would be better -- and she had wanted to meet with the Candidate Master after lunch to discuss her candidacy.
She just hadn't expected to come across him in this manner.
"Alright, Candidate Master, I think that might be a more proper place for us to chat."
While she felt strangely odd at refering to him by title, having no name to go by yet, it didn't made much difference to the brunette -- a friendly smiled offered back to the man to show she wasn't going to back away from his offer just because he happened to be the CM of Refuge Weyr. After all, he was a dragonrider (and the person in charge of her and the others until their impression day no less) and if anything the man would probably find it easier to understand her plight.
That and she hoped perhaps a spot for Harper apprenticeship was still available in this Weyr -- she'd always found that singing and performing did wonders to get her mind off things she didn't wish to bother thinking about.
"If you please, lead the way then."
