Where are you going? Apollath asked, resting on his belly with his feet tucked up close to him as he watched R'gar move around.
"As soon as I get everything done, I'm going to go visiting." R'gar answered, stuffing the stray ends of Apollath's harness into the chest where it was supposed to go when not in use.
Visiting whom? You don't have hardly any people you call friends. The brown queried.
"That doesn't mean I can't make any. I've just been too busy. Ever since you grew up and we graduated, I've had a touch more spare time on my hands." R'gar answered, shutting the chest.
I suppose that's better than spending all your time in the sick-place. Apollath mused, shifting his elbows on the stone floor.
"I'm a Healer, Apollath. I have been a Healer for most of my life. It is what I do." R'gar reminded, walking back over to his end of the weyr and stripping off his oil-spotted shirt to don a fresh one.
You were a Healer, mine. Now you are my rider. That comes first. The dragon reminded patiently.
R'gar sighed slowly, straightening his shirt. "I know. You know that. You also know I'd take you over my craft any day of the week. But you also know that they need me. The so-called healers here are so very behind the curve when it comes to treating people's ailments."
You're not 'visiting' the infirmary are you? the dragon asked suspiciously.
R'gar grinned. "Actually, I'm going to go see Prontin."
Oh? Does she need healing again? The dragon asked.
"No. Like I said, I'm going visiting. It's not a house call." He reminded, pulling a tunic over his head too and belting it securely around his waist. "I trust you'll be okay here?"
Of course.
"Good. I'll be back later." And with that, he walked out and shut the door behind him. Not that that would have stopped Apollath from continuing to ramble to him. Taking the stairs two at a time, he trotted down the halls until he reached the ground level, and the level where Prontin and her family lived. Arriving at her door, he paused and knocked on the door with his knuckles.

It was not Prontin who answered the door this evening, but instead the Weyr’s Harper, Arlin. He wore loose pants and a harper blue tunic with his knots easy to see upon his shoulder. Upon seeing the brown rider dressed in a fresh shirt on the other side of the door, however, Arlin’s frown was defiantly not a welcoming smile. Keeping firm hold of the door and letting his full height and girth block the entrance way, he looked the even larger young man before him. “Can I help you, Rider?” Short and straight to the point, he did not ask any further questions or make any such movement that might suggest he had known to expect the rider. Behind him in the common room sat only the 20 turn old Harper Son, Filkos. Upon hearing his father’s question, he looked up from the guitar he was playing and looked questioningly at the two of them.

"Good evening." R'gar greeted first, even though the Weyr Harper looked less than pleased to see him there. If not downright hostile. "I am actually here to see Prontin." He answered, also short and to the point. Why beat about the bush? R'gar knew fully well that dancing around an issue was not going to win him any points, especially not with a Harper.
He had expected that someone other than Prontin would answer the door, it was only natural. But to be greeted straight away by such a cold front was somewhat of a shock. Maybe the Harper didn't like Riders ... though R'gar was a tad curious how the Harper knew he was a Rider, unless he had somehow made himself a target of interest for Prontin's father.
Especially because up until now, all interaction he'd had with her had been purely professional ... and as a Healer, not a Rider. Even now, he wasn't wearing his knots. Maybe her folks were a bit peeved over her having gone missing during that storm ... missing into his care. It was reasonable to assume that Prontin would have told stories, about what she had seen and experienced.
"Is she in?"

In the background, Filkos seemed to suddenly glow in excitement and happiness as he stood and put down his guitar into the chair he had been sitting in. Moving forward, he put a hand on his dad’s shoulder and gave the brown rider a large smile as he reached a hand through the doorway in way of a smile.
“You must be R’gar. Healer and rider, if what my sister claims is true.” He said with the same easy smile. Arlin gave a sideways glare at his son before pushing him forcefully out of the doorway before any handshake could be exchanged.
“Boy! How am I suppose to put fear into a rider if you go being friendly!” Arlin shouted at Filkos even as a smile threatened to spread on his face. Tossing his hands up in the air in defeat, he turned his back to R’gar and stormed off to the nearest seat where he promptly fell heavily into it. “Come in, come in. Her mother’s helping her chose an outfit that matches.”

Whatever R'gar was expecting, this wasn't it. Watching the procession of actions was a tad confusing, but in the end somewhat heartening. They knew who he was ... but were not against him being there. Wait ... outfit? An outfit for what? He hadn't exactly told her when he'd be by ... not even what day. So it wasn't that. Maybe she had a prior engagement.
"I am." He answered simply, stepping in through the door as the two men backed off and let him in. But he wasn't sure about doing anything else. So he remained where he was not far from the door, which he gently pushed closed behind him. Only because he was trained to do that from childhood rather than from any thought out process. "Guilty on all counts." He admitted with a small smile.
"I apologize if I came at a bad time, if she's going somewhere I can come back at a later date." He offered, not prepared at all to be talking to her folks just yet ... much less her father. Especially since he was still adjusting to the idea that it was okay to admit to liking her. He had to wonder if the men knew that yet, or not. He also had to wonder if they would have any issues with a Northerner spending time with their daughter. So many unknowns, it made it difficult to proceed in any direction.
"I am afraid that I am not born of Rider lines, so the whole Rider mentality is a bit beyond me yet. Is it common for you to need to try to frighten Riders?" He asked. Maybe there was bad blood between the man and Riders? Surely not, not if he was wearing that expression and in the end had invited him in.

At R’gar’s mention of coming back at another date, Filkos rose and eyebrow even as he moved back to his own chair in the common room. Picking up the guitar, he sat on the arm of the chair and strummed a few chords. “Why would she be going somewhere?” he asked, a little confused. She was blind, after all, and wouldn’t be going too far alone. Sure she wandered, but never outside the tunnels.
Things clicked, though a bit slowly as Filkos realized he had spoken about her finding clothes to match. “Ah no, sorry for the confusion, but they are not looking for clothes to match for any sort of occasion. They lay out clothes in piles on her dresser for the sevenday. There are times when mother forgets for a few days and nothing Prontin wears matches, but Prontin asked she help her stay on top of it for a little while.”
Strumming a few more cords, he fell into a familiar melody as he listened to the rider talk. “Are you born from the cothold’s then?” he asked before laughing at his question of frightening riders. “Naw, father has it stuck in his mind that the two of you might be more than friends. I keep trying to remind him that Prontin isn’t like that.”

Oh. Right. She couldn't see color patterns on clothes. So that was it. "I understand." He answered with a nod. Given his promise to come by at some point, he could fathom a guess why she would want her mother to stay on top of that all of a sudden ... if she was like any other girl, even sightless she would have concerns over how she looked when going out. Even if, in his estimation, she was not like any other girl. She was special ... and not because she was blind. He still couldn't figure out what had sparked such a deep interest in her ... at first he'd thought it was simply clerical ... figuring out how she handled the world. But it wasn't that. That was only one facet.
"Cothold? No. Not a cothold. Well ... maybe so. It wasn't a small cothold, but it wasn't a main hold either." He amended with a shrug. "The main jobs there were smithy type things. Metalwork, woodcrafting, all that. All my family are smiths of one type or another. I just happened to decide to do Healing instead." He answered.
He certainly wasn't going to pop the shred of doubt that Filkos was building ... not yet. He didn't want her father to decide he couldn't see Prontin, after all. So long as it was innocent ... or at lease perceived that way, he could see her. So he declined to comment on the whole more than friends topic.

The music didn’t stop when a familiar face poked around a doorframe at the far corner of the room. Pale skin and cloudy grey eyes, Prontin had a look of mixed emotions on her face. Curiosity mixed with surprise and a dash of nerves mixed in. Even so, her voice carried easily over the soft music as she spoke out to the room and not to a person in specific, unsure of who all was in the room.
“Is someone here?” she asked, almost timid of the answer. She had been speaking with her mother and had not heard the door over her brother’s soft playing. She knew someone was there from the sounds of conversation in the common room that did not hold her father as the second voice. What she really wanted to know is if that familiar voice really was R’gar.
She had been hopeful that he would come, after all she has promised herself that she would wait, the memory of that kiss still fresh on her lips. Even so, she could not help but feel the butterflies in her stomach as she awaited the answer to sound back to her in her dark world.
Filkos did not move to answer the question, instead smiling as he strummed another cord and looked expectantly at R’gar, waiting for him to introduce that it was him in the room.

R'gar's attention was stolen when Prontin's face appeared in the doorway, looking very ... confused. But then, she probably spent a lot of time in that state. What with not being able to see her surroundings. "Yes." R'gar answered, since her brother wasn't going to apparently. "Just me, though." Given her displayed aptitude for voices, he was pretty sure she would be able to pick out who 'me' was, even over music. She'd been able to identify him in the middle of a packed feast hall after all.
Golly but she was pretty, even wearing a mixed expression on her features. Why she was leaning around the edge like that, he didn't know. Since when did she have a shy streak? "Are you busy? I can come back later if you like." He offered again.

Her confused look brightened visibly as she confirmed that his voice was, in fact, his. A smile spread across her lips as she disappeared into the room again only to emerge completely, the words of thanks being shared between her and another in the room. Her fingertips ran lightly across the wall as she made her way toward his voice. Pausing a few feet from him as she attempted to recall how far away the voice had sounded, she turned her face upward, looking toward the top of the front door.
“I’m not busy at all, R’gar.” She answered, the glow of happiness still bright on her face. She had no idea what to expect after asking him to take her to dinner, but it seemed like a reasonable request after what had happened that day. Offering her hand out into that void between them, she turned toward the music that was playing.
“I’ll be home later.”

She really was lost. That's what happened when he was too quiet he supposed. She had the funniest tendency to stare at the strangest spots too ... but it was somewhat endearing. Only Prontin did that, after all. R'gar reached out and took her extended, searching hand. "I'm not quite that tall." He commented, with amusement clearly coloring his voice.
But he nodded to her father and brother, sensing that she wasn't planning on lingering long. "In a few." He said, before opening the door for her and guiding her through it. Following after her and closing the door again behind him, he quickly recaptured her hand once more.
But what to say to her? There was so much to say ... but no words for it. Which only made his momentary silence all the more difficult. What to say? "Where would you like to go?" It was a start. A lame start, but a start.

“You are when you’re directly in front of me.” She replied back matter-of-factly, even as her lips pursed in a smirk. She couldn’t get it perfect every time, but she did recognize the amusement that clearly colored his voice telling her he meant it jokingly. Feeling his large hand catch hold of hers, the purse to her lips smoothed out into a happy smile as she let him guide her out of the room.
Hearing the door click only to find his hand very quickly back in hers, she couldn’t help the soft, content sigh that escaped her lips. His question floated in the air a moment before she attempted to look up in his face again. This time she was much closer to her intended target and holding onto him which allowed her to actually get the height right.
“I don’t mind.” She answered truthfully. Sure she had asked for dinner after she had spent the night, but right now she was simply happy to be in his company. He smelled of fresh laundry and dragon oil, the combination tingling her nose pleasantly even as she enjoyed the sound of his deep baritone.

She didn't mind. What in the world was that supposed to mean? Had he asked a question like that? He was pretty sure he hadn't. Was this when the purported theory of women getting totally mysterious kicked in? Gosh he hoped not. Hardly started, the last thing he needed was for her to suddenly sprout a different language.
All that aside, though, he really did only have one thing on his mind at the moment. Looking at her smiling face only reinforced it, too. R'gar walked with her down the hall, and around the first corner. At which point he couldn't resist anymore, stopping her and pulling her in for a hug. "Prontin." A hug wasn't exactly what he wanted ... exactly. But it would do for now. For now. "I have been thinking about you. A lot lately. I ..." truth be told, he really hadn't been thinking about much of anything else. Just her. Which was horridly distracting, especially when he had things to do. Like drills ... or working in the infirmary.
It was almost like he was a fellis addict looking for a new dose. Only he wasn't ... it was just Prontin. This was crazy! Here he was, like this, and it was only just barely a few days ago, when he'd even admitted that he liked her. To himself, much less to her. What a mess he was.
"You look lovely today." Lovely ... the term fell far short of what he really thought. But he didn't want to drown her in words. Simple did best. Especially when he was still trying to get a handle on his own reaction to her very presence.

Allowing him to lead her, she smiled in simple acceptance that she was safe in his company. She knew he would be sure she did not bump into anything and with her mind so fresh on their last encounter, her sense of him was heightened. It was when he slowed to a stop and pulled her a step back and into a hug that she found her breath caught.
Putting both hands on his chest, she leaned against it even as she buried her face into the fabric of his shirt. Taking a deep breath she enjoyed the scent of him before it registered that he was saying something. Stopping, she tilted her head upwards toward his voice to let him know that she was in fact listening. He had been thinking about her lately, and a lot it seemed. Hearing his ‘I…’ as it trailed off, she gave him a confused look.
His sentence did not finish, however, as his next one took what Prontin felt was a different turn. She looked lovely. While Prontin could not bring a picture to her mind of what lovely actually looked like, she did know what the concept meant. Feeling her cheeks warm slightly, she smiled up at him before poking a gentle finger into his collar bone.
“Thank you, R’gar.” She said softly, “Though it sounded like you were going to say something else.”

R'gar smiled slightly. "Something else? I suppose I did, didn't I? I ... I do have things that I want you to know ... but finding words to suit them is difficult at best. I am doing the best I can, I promise! I apologize for my wandering attempts at stringing words together." He took the hand that had poked his collarbones and wrapped his own around it. "I missed you." He held onto the hug for a moment longer before finally releasing her from it. But again he didn't let go of her hand.
She did want to go somewhere after all. Barring her original idea a few days hence of dinner ... he really had no ideas this time. Nothing new to show her. But then, given everything she'd already been through in his company ... maybe a sedate, nothing-new outing was in order. So dinner it was. Which meant the messhall.
R'gar reached up and lightly touched her face before smiling again. Even though he was entirely aware that she couldn't see; he just could help himself! "I suppose we should get you fed before you waste away, dry up, and blow away never to be seen again, shouldn't we?" He asked in semi-jest. He fully intended to feed her, certainly. But there was no chance she would do all he'd just described if he didn't!
