R'kin had left his bronze dragnet asleep at the weyrling barracks and his new kitten Lux was in his hands as he went down to the lower caverns in the middle of the night. He couldn't sleep as doubts wandered into his mind and he carefully went by a few lower caverns workers that just looked at him. The weyrling went getting some klah and sighed as he sat down on a chair. It had happened very quickly impressing a bronze dragon and now everything seemed to hang on his shoulders. A thought went on him he'd come to this hatching thinking he wouldn't impress and he had impressed a bronze of all colors. The kitten meowed as he petted it and he sat there looked at him petting it lightly.
His love for his dragnet was great yet he didn't know if he had what it took to lead. It was the way things we're with gold leading the weyr and a bronze would usually start as a wing leader then would fight for the gold during a mating flight. A great possibility was held he could be weyrleader one day did he have what it would take. A few more pats to the kitten and he continued to drank the klah. He was deep into thought and knew that he was breaking curfew yet didn't really care much. A few drudges went past him and he didn't pay attention to them at all.
A few calm thoughts from his bronze dragon the young weyrling just continued to drink the klah in peace and pet the kitten that was purring for the attention. He liked the attention because R'kin was always with his dragon though at night the kitten had his attention. The weyrling was deep in thought and smiled at the thought of all the adventure that was ahead.

Late nights were becoming far too common for B’ren’s taste. If they were late nights that involved exciting things it wouldn’t be so bad. Or late nights that involved a pretty girl. Instead, they were late nights that involved spending most of his time pouring over old records and taking notes for D’seus. After spending a few candle marks in the records room writing and reading, B’ren felt the need to get up and move. His stomach agreed with him and the young bronze rider settled for a trip down to the lower caverns. Some klah to help wake him up a bit, maybe something to eat if anything sounded good, and a chance to flirt with a few of the pretty kitchen girls.
The klah was still hot when B’ren got to it and he spent a few minutes chatting it up with one of the girls. He got caught up on some of the newer gossip, pausing as one of the new weyrlings came in and got himself a cup of klah. Odd, it was rather late and B’ren new how much energy it took to care for a new dragon. He watched R’kin a little longer, trying to remember what dragon the kid had Impressed. He’s the newest bronze rider I believe. Why thank you Zeuth, didn’t know you paid that much attention. He’s future competition, of course I pay attention. One of us needs to at least.
B’ren grinned a bit to himself as he took a sip of his drink. He had long grown use to the jabs Zeuth used on him, and now days half of them were even spoken in a more loving tone. B’ren wondered if he had ever come down here looking so down after he had Impressed Zeuth. He was sure he had, dreaming of being a leader and of responsibilities was one thing. Realizing those dreams were now a reality even if you were no longer sure about them was something else.
Getting a refill of his drink, B’ren excused himself from the kitchen girl and walked over to R’kin and pulled a chair over and took a seat next to him. He let out a sigh as he relaxed into the chair, giving R’kin the chance to leave if he truly wanted solitude. When the kid didn’t leave. You really shouldn’t think of him as a kid. You were the same age as him after all when I choose you. Hush you, you’re distracting me. Clearing his throat a bit, B’ren pointed at the kitten R’kin held. “So, what’d you end up naming him? Or is it a her? I don’t remember…”

R'kin noticed a young man come to sit near him and looked at him for a second. He heard the question then smiled at the kitten that was meowing then said, "Lux,". The bronze weyrling noticed the rider for a moment then it dawned on him he was a bronze rider though he forgot his dragon's name. While he did know a few of the metallic riders outside of that it was still a lot to get used too. When he sipped more Klah the bronze weyrling smiled for a moment as the little kitten seemed to fall asleep then looked over at the rider.
His sigh was long for a moment as a few other people went by them then just gazed into the nearby fire. If the bronze rider wanted to chat then he was going to have to start the conversation. R'kin's own thoughts we're too much his own to voice them at that this moment and just seemed lost. While he rubbed the kitten who seemed to be his comfort outside of his dragnet. He could go places that his bronze could not and was continuously quiet.
The thoughts we're in his head on whether he had what it took to be a good bronze rider. He wondered if he could really lead one day and be everything that was now expected of him. R'kin just sighed he had gone from being a tailor and dyning of threads to a dragon rider. It was apparent that unlike other bronze riders he wasn't going to be full of himself if anything very humble about it.

B’ren grinned a little and gave a nod to the cat name. It was a good name. Well it at least wasn’t a bad name. The bronze rider normally let his younger foster siblings name things for him. Of course many of his ‘pets’ as a kid had been spinners and other creepy critters. He had never been a big pet person, even more so now that he had Zeuth and his responsibilities as a bronze rider taking up all his time. “Cute name. Hopefully he’s being a good kitty for you. Cuz uh I’m not taking them back. I had that whole box of cats in my weyr for a few hours and that was enough for Zeuth. I think one of the kittens tried to go up his nose…”
He chuckled a bit then let the other guy sit in silence for a bit, sipping at his own drink as R’kin sighed to himself a few times. B’ren watched the kid a bit, one eyebrow rasing a bit before the bronze rider frowned and sat forward. “Uh you ok there? You look a little ill or something. You’re not going to be sick are you.”

He listened to the bronze rider with a smile then said, "I won't be giving her back she's great," then was quiet for the next question. R'kin said, "I guess it's just well," he seemed to stutter out the question. The bronze weyrling was a bit ashamed at ever feeling like this and sighed. If anyone found out how he really felt they would think him too weak to be a bronze rider. His eyes looked at the other rider and he seemed as if he could trust him. "Do you ever feel overwhelmed riding bronze it's so much all of sudden I never thought that I would ride a bronze maybe a green never," asked R'kin as looked at him for a moment? The bronze weyrling didn't know if he could handle what riding bronze brought. only A quiet came over R'kin as he just continued to pet the cat not wanting to make contact with the other rider. He loved his bronze yet those feelings did exist yet tried not to think about them around his bronze. The dragon could read his thoughts and didn't want to give his dragon any doubts. When he took another sip of his drink and looked at the other rider for an answer. It might just be him who had these feelings and maybe the others felt as if they we're entitled to lead the weyr with no doubts.

B’ren raised an eyebrow at R’kin before snorting out a bit of laughter. “Over whelmed? Every single day. I mean what boy at some point doesn’t dream of riding a bronze and being some famous Weyrleader? It’s a little shocking when it happens. The Impressing part, because clearly I haven’t become a famous Weyrleader. Yet.” B’ren had always dreamed big, even when other boys were giving up on the hopes of Impressing he had continued to be confident in himself. Or full of himself depending on who you asked. But he knew that not everyone was like that, heck look at Or’yn.
“You Impressed Krestanovith because he saw something in you. Just relax and try not to worry about it too much. No one is expecting much out of you yet so all that pressure you feel is just what you’re putting on yourself. I mean, it’s not like you have to go to some of the boring meetings that other senior ranking riders have to go to. And heck, I don’t mind those but Or’yn hates them.”
Taking a sip of his drink B’ren thought for a moment, trying to remember his first few weeks after Impressing Zeuth. He remembered arguing. A lot. “Bronzes can be willful and pushy things but he picked you for a reason, he if didn’t think you’d be perfect for him, you wouldn’t have Impressed him. The two of you may disagree about things right now but there’s nothing wrong with that. Zeuth and I continue to fight with each other about things. It happens. But Zeuth picked me over every other guy there because he saw who I would become. Krestanovith did the same thing with you as well. Just enjoy the time the two of you have together as Weyrlings, it’s a lot less busy and awkward then things will be for you later.”

R'kin continued to pet the kitten then smiled at B'ren's answer and then looked at him. "I know it's just so much to take in," said R'kin as he smiled at the rider and really tried to mull over the advice. He looked around then at him then asked, "So does having a bronze help get the girls," as he tried to make light of the conversation? It seemed that the bronze riders seemed to have a lot of bed offers and the idea made the shy guy smile. He knew that it would be a few turns before that would happen yet curiousity got the best of him. His soft laid back nature was quite in contrast to the tradional bronze rider and he wasn't one to go up to start a conversation.
The rider realized there we're tons of adventures ahead and maybe even a queen flight. He sort of grinned at that option and then just waited for a answer as he drank some klah. A few women came in to put some food over the fire and he just smelled the rich aromas. R'kin's stomach was growling and he had to admit that he had quite the appetite. While he was eating one type of food or another because he guessed it was the need for his body always growing taller.

B’ren let out a little snort at R’kin’s question about bronze dragons and girls. “You don’t have to worry about girls yet, there’s that lovely Weyrling rule of no relationships. And well I had no problem getting girls before I was a bronze rider soo…” He chuckled a little and shrugged. There were always those girls who wanted to go up a few ranks by finding a nice bronze rider to turn into a weyrmate. Or girls like Zaylee who enjoyed bedding every bronze rider the Weyr had. “The rank can help get girls to notice you but you still have to actually do work if you want to date them. Flights are about the only time you can get a free pass.” Of course flights didn’t always go as planned as B’ren knew.
As the kitchen girls walked by, B’ren watched them go by, grinning a little at the sight of them. He glanced over at R’kin as he heard the boys stomach growl and raised an eyebrow. “Faranth, you know you can go get something to eat right? Heck go say hello to those young ladies over there. Show off some of that future bronze rider charm.”

R'kin looked at the rider and listened to his advice then smiled. He said, "Watch Lux," as he handed over the kitten to the bronze rider and got up with a smile for once. The young man walked over to the girls as he started to chat them up while grabbing a roll and eating it. His smile was genuine on his face and not faked as he continued to talk with them got some stew. While he was over there for a few moments then waved to them and walked back over. "I'm meeting one for lunch tomorrow," said R'kin as he smiled at him then ate the stew.
He was thankful for the advice and actually knew in the future that with time everything would be okay. R'kin smiled at him then continued to eat for a bit and then as he finished looked at his cat. "I better be getting back before the weyrling master catches me and I end up with more chores," said R'kin as he went to take Lux back. "Thanks for the talk," said R'kin as he looked at the other rider and knew that he would remember that advice. He would always remember the bronze rider that gave him the advice to believe in himself. "Night," said R'kin as he gave a smile and knew that his night goings would attract attention from the weyrling master eventually.
