Jared (now J'red)
As the bronze broke forth from his egg Jared couldn't help but take a step back. Oh Faranth that was a big dragonet. But very handsome, if a little ungainly right now. Feeling unbelievably nervous he decided to hide behind the other male candidates, quite pathetically. From between them he watched as The Sensitive Dreamer egg hatched quietly and without applause. Well now, she wasn't so intimidating he thought, looking at her walk forwards. Her sea green hide was very beautiful and her neck was so long!
His attention was drawn back to the bronze who had decided upon his lifemate. Well at least it wasn't him! Jared wouldn't know what to do with a bronze! Two more eggs shook and hatched, a blue and another green. Jared would have paid more attention to where they were going and who they were going to Impress to, but something in the form of a sea green dragonet distracted him.
Naioth found you! I thought I’d never find you. J’red mine, I’m very hungry.
Startled, Jared turned back to the Sensitive Dreamer Green. "I-I'm sorry, what?", he stammered. Had she just spoken to him? He felt like collapsing, this couldn't be real! Please J'red, will you feed me? It was very hard to wait this long already. She seemed to be implying her brother making her stay put.
Jared was overcome with emotion, but it was swiftly replaced with a gnawing feeling in his gut. Oh. Wow. So she really was his dragon. He stumbled over to her, all fear vanishing as he gazed upon her serpentine beauty. He accepted his name as J'red and hugged her. Just hugged her. He probably looked foolish, but for the first time in his life, he really didn't care. "Lets go Naioth, lets go get you fed."
Naioth trilled happily and cast her head about, looking for the food, Em.. Where is it J'redMine?
Good question.

Eira stood still as the dragonet's emerged from their shells. Watching the bronze impressed Rinkin made her smile. Good for him on being first impressed, and, the Bronze impressing first was very good luck. Normally, she did not believe in silly superstitions but, she honestly hoped it was true. They could all use a little bit of luck if you asked her. Shifting her gaze back to the green that hatched first, she smiled as another boy was impressed. While she didn't know the Candidate well, she remembered seeing him a few times during Weyrlessons. He looked rather surprised too when his dragon impressed him. Either way, she was simply glad no one had gotten themselves trampled. But, there were many eggs left and that could still be a very large possibility.
At first, she did not noticed the blue heading towards the stands until it got almost eerily quiet for a hatching. Turning her head her eyes narrowed to fall on the person who was in the stands. Her eyebrows soon raised in surprise though, she heard of people being impressed when not candidates. But wasn't suppose to be rare though? Even more shock hit her though when she realized the young man who was just impressed wasn't someone from the Weyr or a visitor from a Cothold, but a Holdless. She felt a little sick to her stomach, realizing that this could be very bad. The Holdless were the ones wanting to kill dragons and here one was being impressed. Worry flooded her for a brief minute but, there was not really anything any of them could do was there? Swallowing, she smoothed out her robes a little to calm down her nerves.
Funny how she went from a little nervous about the hatching's to very nervous because a Holdless had impressed. Hopefully his dragonet seen something in him that the young man did not know was there in the first place. Stepping a little to the side to let the last green dragon through she glanced at a girl about her same height. At least that was something a little more normal and she watched for a moment as the girl walked off to get her dragon fed. Now, it was time to look back to the eggs and she watched as they continued to shake.

Rinkin watched as two eggs hatched in succession with a bronze first followed by a green. While he watched the two dragnets move along the sands and seem to take their time then the bronze seem to head in their direction. When he kept looking at the boys and finally Rinkin heard a voice in his mind which he just hugged his bronze. His dragon was Krestanovith and he just stared in awe of the dragon who he never though that he would be worthy of. A young man like himself never thought that a bronze dragon would pick him of all people and he smiled at his. A young man that had become R'kin and heard all the dragon had wanted food. "Of course," said R'kin as he lead the young dragon away from the others to buckets of meat that we're stationed along the edge.
He began to feed his dragon as it appeared he didn't even chew his food. R'kin was so enamored by his dragon that he didn't notice a blue and two greens had hatched. The bronze weyrling pair continued to feed as the eggs seemed to start hatching all the while Rinkin couldn't believe that he had gotten a bronze dragon. His eyes went to the gold that showed his thanks for such a great gift yet as he rubbed the eye ridges of his dragon a thought came to him. A new status had come upon him as a bronze rider there would be more en store for him. It would be expected for him to lead a wing one day and take part in gold flights.
A golden flight that was something that made him him smile and he just rubbed the ridges as his bronze seemed to croon. He never thought that he had a chance and certainly not with a metallic. It was very likely that there might be only one other bronze in the entire group and they be the only ones. "Mine," said R'kin as he hugged his dragon again and continued to feed him.

The attention of most the people in the Stands turned from the newly impressed to the shaking eggs still on the Sands. The next to show signs of breaking though its shell was the Disciplined Solo Egg. When the shell finally came free from the right side the dragonet was able to push the rest of the shell so that it burst apart. The dragonet emerged and immediately received the eyes of the Weyr. He was dark, so dark they thought he might be black. As his hide dried, it was clear that he was a very dark brown. The dragonet took his time leaving the area of the wreckage of his shell. Then he surveyed the area beyond that. Finally he decided to go look at the male Candidates. The brown walked slowly, steadily because unlike his bronze brother he was not in such a hurry that he would risk falling. Mnemoth approached the male Candidates and walked down the line, looking at one then another and then another. He was very meticulous in his choosing. Finally he stopped his moving through the male Candidates to stand before a tan skinned youth with dark curly hair. J’von, come with me. I am Mnemoth. Food now, please. The Disciplined Solo Egg Name:Mnemoth Age: Hatchling Color: Brown Appearance:Mnemoth is a little above average in size. When he reaches adulthood, he will be about 34.5 meters. Well muscled and stocky, the brown is everything you would expect of his color. Every bit the sturdy sort in appearance it is matched by what he is physically capable of. Built for endurance he can last a full flight without feeling utterly exhausted. This also means he can chase Golds. Whether he is successful or not is another matter entirely. Seeing as he isn't the largest of brown dragons either, he is also quite capable of chasing greens and will likely be more effective at catching some of the larger greens of the Weyr. His hide is the color of dark chocolate. So dark even that when he first hatches it appears that he is black. When he is wet or being oiled his hide will appear black. However when it dries his hide is obviously brown, albeit very dark. There are no markings on his body save for lighter shading on his muzzle and tip of his tail. His claws are also a dark brown. Personality: An ambitious brown, Mnemoth is not one to sit idly by and wait for opportunity to fall before him. He likes to take life by the proverbial horns and direct it where to go. He wants power and position and more importantly respect. Trust me, He'll find a way to get them. He's a tenacious brown and as such can be persistent when it comes to things he wants. He can be highly critical of other people and will actually tell them what he thinks about them. Mnemoth is also very resourceful and finds ways to get things he wants through whatever means it helpful to him. He is wise too, which will probably annoy his rider as he will be full of good advice on nearly every topic under the sun. And while he might push his rider into relationships with women, the dragon himself is nervous around other dragons and will become shy. Despite this conservative side, he is a very steady friend and constant type of companion. He has an easy time conversing with dragons he is not attracted to. History:Mind Voice: Gene Kelly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEhIp2EbfLo) Text Color:4A3825Impressed to: Ajallvon As the brown walked off the Sands with his new lifemate, a green tumbled out of the shell of the Opinionated Freedom Egg. She was a bit dizzy after her roll and took a moment to regain her head before standing up. She walked towards the girls for a moment and then seemed to change her mind abruptly. The green was fairly big for her age but still much better on her feet than the larger dragonets. She walked at a quicker pace than her brown brother but took just as much time in making her decision. The boys whom she found unworthy she did not walk by again. Finally coming to a halt before a tall young man with dark locks that seemed to fall into his face more often than not. Rhyseth is hungry, K’len mine. Hurry now.The Opinionated Freedom Egg Name: Rhyseth Age: Newly Hatched Color: Green Appearance: This larger than average green is athletically built. She has a muscular body for a green and is a bit more stocky than her sisters. Rhyseth is more likely to be able to last half a fall than her clutchmates but still her stamina may not even match that of a blue. She had a strength of body though that will allow her to excel as a dragon in a wing. She should grow to be one of the largest greens at the Weyr at about 25.0 meters in length. Jungle green is the main color of Rhyseth's hide. Splashes of other dark greens swirl around her hide so it is nearly impossible to tell where one color ends and another begins. This swirling occurs on all places of her body although less prominent on her face which looks to be almost all one color. Each of her claws is a different color green. Personality: A dragon who is never going to fit in with the crowd, Rhyseth is a bit eccentric. When other dragons are sunning and socializing she is inside thinking about things that other greens don't think about. She is very independent and does not need or want to be around other dragons unless its absolutely necessary. She has a hard time coming across as the friendly dragon she is because of her detachment from the others. At times she can come off as a bit cool and unfeeling. She is idealistic and wishes the world were the way she envisions it instead of the way that it is. She would clash bitterly with Bealveth in a conversation because where Bealveth believes you have to see or touch something for it to be real, Rhyseth believes something exists regardless of the facts and goes more off of what she feels. Opinionated to the point where she might drive someone crazy, the green will be assertive in telling her rider exactly what she wants and how she feels. Certainly she is not someone to let events unfold before her without involving herself in them. History:Mind Voice: Audrey Hepburn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK-Qr9op3yE&feature=related) Text Color: 00611CImpressed to: Keylen As the green Impressed to Keylen, another egg had Hatched and was soon drawing a lot of attention. The small dragonet emerged from the Wise Adventurer Egg was a fawn colored brown with dark striations like brindle in canines. He was careful of where he stepped although eager to start his new life. Somehow he managed to pace himself, though more than once he nearly fell because he was overly ambitious to where he was going. The brown, unlike many of the others took no time at all in finding the one who was meant for him. He approached the boys as expected and made a bee line for one particular young man in particular. The brown haired youth was soon bespoken as the brown nudged his shoulder gently. P’lel mine, can we eat now? Revyketh is famished. The Wise Adventurer EggName: Revyketh (Rev-i-keth) Age: Hatchling Color: Brown Appearance: Revyketh is a small dragonet, especially for his color seeming more the size of a large blue. He is probably not the smallest brown at the Weyr but close to it. At full length he is expected to be about, 31.1 meters in length. The brown has a long, lithe build rather than stocky which actually makes him seem smaller from a distance than he is. He is built more for agility and speed than most browns and may have an easier time catching greens because of it. Unfortunately he may also have a hard time lasting an entire Fall. He has an interesting hide. The base color is a fawn brown with dark brown striations throughout his body. The best comparison to this coloration would be brindle in dogs. His claws are black and fairly dull to the eye if one would even notice them when looking at the dragon. Revyketh tends to carry his head high in all situations. Personality:A driven, motivated dragon, Revyketh is one who will see all things through to the finish. He can accomplish great things if he wishes, despite his smaller size. The brown has an enthusiasm for life that is not matched by his rider. He can get a bit carried away with his positive, optimistic air. Everything should work out for him, because it can. That’s how he sees things in life. The dragon is very outspoken and will be the first to argue his point especially with his rider when he believes he is in the right and when he probably isn’t. He does not like being wrong. Revyketh is a restless dragon when kept cooped up for too long. He would be a horrible candidate for ground rest should he ever be injured. He’d be less likely to sun all day when he could be out exploring the world around him. Revyketh is an adventurer. Always up to try new things and go to places he is never been before. He has an independent nature as well. He feels no need to be around the other dragons and can make decisions about life without the input of his rider. History: Mind Voice: Laurence Olivier (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9fa3HFR02E) Text Color: A68130 Impressed to: Paralell Everyone was busy watching the brown when another green impressed to a young woman. She was shorter than average with auburn hair. The Harmonious Justice green then walked off the sands with her new rider. The Harmonious Justice Name: Felicath Age: Newly Hatched Color: Green Appearance: A maiden like green with her dainty, refined head and seemingly delicate features, Felicath is in many ways a lady. She has a small, compact body, with long graceful looking wings and slightly long legs. She carries her head high whenever she walks as if trying to balance a book on top of it. Felicath cares very much about her appearance and will always show people her better side (which is whatever side she perceives to be better). She will grow to be around 20.4 meters. Her coloring is a few shades darker than true green. By no means the darkest green around but she is easily noted based on her body shape instead. She has some markings that are hard to see from far away. Firstly her head knobs start at the bottom as the same color as her hide then get lighter until reaching the tops. The color also fades from where her tail connects to her body all the way to the tip which is a very light green. Her claws are pearly white and average sized. Personality: Much like her appearance, this little green is quite the chivalrous lady. She is respectful of those who deserve it and even of other dragons the same rank as herself. She is sociable, chit chatting with other greens and blues . Her demeanor is always kind and sweet. Felicath is accommodating to just about everyone and will do what she can to make them feel comfortable around her. When it comes to making decisions she has trouble. Why can't someone else decide?? Flipping a coin might be a good idea, it will certainly get results faster. She wants to be a fair and just dragon. Treating everyone as they deserve to be treated. When talking about issues that others seem to be a bit on edge about, she tries to be as diplomatic as possible. She would hate to offend anyone. Felicath is appreciative of the arts. This includes anything from music to home decorating. She has a great eye for pretty things and knows when something or someone looks good from a long way off. Trelia had been watching as she saw the eggs start to hatch and a bronze hatched first that was a good sign of luck. When she saw that a few more greens and even a blue had hatched the candidate stood waiting. The dragonets seemed to know exactly where they we're going and it didn't take them long for them to make up their minds. When she saw a few greens head off to a couple of candidates that she didn't know and a brown impress to Ajallvon. It was a good mix though she was saddened that no dragons had chosen her. A wise proverb of patience is a virtue and if she didn't get her dragon this time around there was always next turn. Her age would allow her to stand again yet she looked at Zayten and hoped that he would impress.
He would be a good rider for a blue dragon and hoped that he would yet impress. The one egg that she was watching was the gold and just prayed that she would impress. A few other girls that stood out to her would make good riders too and she prayed a wise choice was made by the gold. While with a smile she looked at them then waited because there would still be a big party afterwards. If she didn't impress then she would help the others with their dragons till her time came.

Ajallvon had settled back to looking at the eggs again. More and more of them were started to crack, and one finally burst open to reveal a very dark dragon. It almost look black, but Ajallvon doubted that was possible. People had made the mistake before, at the last hatching, in fact. He didn't know how Aeriath, with her brilliant hide, produced such dark-hued dragons. As he watched, it became quite clear that the dragon wasn't really black, just a rather dark Brown. Well, the Weyr could certainly use some Browns. This one looked very ready to find His. He headed straight to the boys and just walked down the line of them, passing by each one, some without a glance, others actually being looked over for a while. He noticed that none of the other eggs had hatched quite yet. The only dragon there was to watch was this Brown one, and he was steadily making his way. Ajallvon wondered if the Brown would even spare him a glance. None of the other dragons had, but then every dragon was different.
Ajallvon looked back at the other eggs, waiting for one of those eggs that was rolling around to finally hatch open. He looked back as the Brown approached, and was a little surprised that it stopped in front of him, not the slowing down it had down before, but an actual stop. He had little time to think this over, because this dragon was apparently not one to wait. J'von, come with me, I am Mnemoth. Food now, please the dragon said, in a slightly commanding tone. He couldn't help but smile to himself as he looked at his very own dragon. All that worrying for nothing! And now he had Mnemoth to look after. Food, J'von, you may marvel at me later Mnemoth said, more commanding this time.
"All right, all right," J'von responded. Mnemoth was definitely not a pushover. The question was whether or not that was a good thing. Either way, he was hungry, and he needed to be fed. So J'von took Mnemoth to the side where the food was waiting. He didn't even mind the smell of the meat, all piled up and ready to be eaten by the hungry hatchlings. Later perhaps, things were grow hard, but for now, the only thing that mattered was that he Mnemoth, and in that, there was a bond that never would break. His life had changed for the better; no matter how hard things got, J'von was happy enough now.

Marlaey
Marlaey was in complete awe of this whole experience. From applauding the bronze at hatching first, to cheering on each of the subsequent bonds, she reveled in the moment. Her eyes danced with laughter as more eggs hatched before them. It was all happening so fast! To be honest, she felt more like a spectator than a candidate, but how could that matter when new dragons were coming into the world?
She smiled at the other candidates around her, even over at the boys. A brown now headed over to the boys! He was very very dark and very very handsome. He took his time choosing a partner, but clearly it was the right choice. The dragons were never wrong.
She grinned as another brown and two more greens hatched. She waited to see if any would choose her, but alas they did not. Inside she felt a slight tinge of sadness, but the joy at seeing others Impress was too much for it to linger.
Parallel (now P'lel)
Parallel was duly inspected by an almost black dragonet, but passed up in favour of someone else. He didn't mind, if anything he relaxed his tense stand a little. Whenever any of the hatchlings approached the row of candidates he was in he automatically stiffened. He wasn't quite sure why he did that, probably something to do with the seriousness of the situation, ie, a starving dragon trying to find someone to feed it asap!
But when they weren't that close he enjoyed the scene unfold.
When the Wise Adventurer egg hatched, revealing a much paler, smaller brown he was surprised to see it head straight towards him! The brown nudged him. P’lel mine, can we eat now? Revyketh is famished. Parallel blinked. P'lel? His mind was merging with a dragons as he thought it. The brown nudged him once more, almost guiding him to where he should be, Can't you feel how hungry I am P'lel? There's so much to explore, but we can't start until I've eaten! P'lel. That would take some getting used to. It was such a small part of what was happening right now, but his head was swimming with the reality of what had just happened! "You're mine?", he asked lamely.
Of course!, Revyketh blinked, wondering why this was not very obvious to his rider. P'lel reached towards him, running his hand across the smooth pale hide and it's handsome pattern of brindling. "Wow..", he murmured. Revyketh crooned to his rider and pushed him gently again towards the food. There would be time to bask in each other's happiness at finding each other afterwards, first he really had to eat!
P'lel let the dragonet lead him to where the other new weyrlings were gathering, still quite shocked. But he turned once more to the brown. "How did you know it was me?", he asked because Revyketh hadn't hesitated at all in choosing him.
Who else would it be?

The entire cavern seemed to hush to complete silence as the Golden shell of The Maiden of the Sky Egg began to crack. The shaking of the egg signaled to all that the newest Queen of Refuge was about to make her debut. Even as the young women made a semi circle around her shattering shell, the little Queen paid them no mind. Shell pieces went fling every which direction, even hitting some of the closer Candidates. Here was no weak little hatchling, here was a Gold dragonet with all the power she needed to take on the world that was the Hatching Cavern. Clumsily she stumbled out of her egg, showing finally the full extent of her body. Not quite the sunny hued Gold of her mother, The Maiden of the Sky was more coppery hued, especially under her wings, on her webbing and around her eyeridges. She was a large Gold dragonet in comparison to Rhiannoth and Aeriath. The Queen moved past the broken shell and quickly walked forward trying to keep her momentum and balance but lacking in the latter. She staggered into three young women one of whom was likely dead now. Blood had now stained the Hatching Sands and sadly this would only be the beginning of what the young Queen would leave in her wake.. Instantly apologetic the Queen turned around, unfortunately doing the same thing with her tail. The girls closest did their best to dodge but one of them was slashed in the arm. The young Gold began her walk forward toward the semi circle of young women. She liked all the warm feelings they were sending her but there was that nagging feeling that she had to pick the best of the best. So she walked from one girl to the next. At first it seemed she had beganto regain her footing but as she turned she ended up tripping and her claws dug into the chest of a young woman named Kestrel. It was clear even to the Healers that the young woman was so severely injured she would not survive. The Queen was feeling confused by the panic and terror that began to spread. She tried to spread her wings out to help her balance but ended up tripping again nonetheless. She fell into two young women standing near eachother. Neither one was so badly injured they would die but some of their bones had been crushed. Laure and Lyndel were unconscious but would live, the Healers hoped. So long as the Queen didn’t walk on them they stood a chance. The other women seemed to be a bit more nervous now that the Queen had shown an almost malicious side. Although the Queen had no idea how much damage to people she was causing. Increasingly confused by the mixed emotions she looked up at her mother who dipped her head. She should move on. Find her lifemate. As the Queen walked past Therion, she noted the young woman’s vanity. She was strong enough but was she right for her? Then she walked by Trelia who was kinder but just as stubborn as Therion. Something about her did click with the Queen but it was not quite right. Finally coming to Marlaey she found a kindred spirit. The Queen, now afraid of touching any of the girls simply looked into Marlaey’s eyes and said Marlaey I am Elynth. Are you not hungry? I am. I’d like to eat. In fact all the Gold could think about seemed to be the burning hungry feeling in her stomach. The Maiden of the Sky EggName: Elynth Age: Hatchling Color: Gold Appearance: The Maiden of the Sky is a brightly hued Gold if not quite the sunny color of her mother. Elynth does come close to Aeriath's shade except that hers is a bit more muted with slight bit more orange in the tone. However when not standing near Aeriath it would be hard to see the light differences in hide color. Elynth has even coloring throughout her hide with the only darker shaded areas being her webbing and her eyeridges. Large even for a Queen it is expected that she will grow to be upwards of 42 meters. Aeriath being only 40 herself this is a great length for the young one to achieve. A well-built Gold there is nothing small about her, from her muscular body to the tip of her tail. She is power through and through. Her body in fact would be considered proportionate in every way. Which would match her meticulous persona to a tea. The young Queen always takes great care to go slow after hte Hatching. She does have a clumsiness about her that all dragonets have after Hatching but which will linger till she is almost full grown. Despite this she always walks with her head held high. Her tail is often held higher off the ground than the other dragons too. She claims it helps her balance. Personality: The first personality trait one notices when around Elynth is that she is rather upbeat. Not much gets her down as long as things are going her way. All things really should be done as she wishes anyway. The Queen can be overly analytical and critical of things that others might oversee. She is detail oriented and will not forget to check the little things. Despite this, she is one to get things done well and quickly. Her efficiency as a flier will make her a great addition to the Queen’s Wing. For the moment though, the young Queen is awkward and clumsy on foot. She enjoys helping those less fortunate than herself and will go out of her way to be there for a friend. A more loyal dragon you may never meet. Elynth enjoys the little things in life and often comments to her rider about the things she notices. (Such comments are more likely to be random and have nothing to do with conversation, eg. Rider: What do you think would look good on that wall over there? Dragon: The water in the lake is sparkling.) Elynth is a sweet Gold although a bit judgemental when people don’t get things done up to her standards which despite her seemingly kind demeanor are quite high. The Gold enjoys sunning and spending time with male dragons. Although the occasional green might be a friend, she prefers the males as they tend to do whatever she wants them to do. The attention they lavish on her is also an excuse for her to like their company better. She likes to be the center of attention when she is in the mood to be but she is not the type of Gold who needs the spotlight all the time. History: Mind Voice: Katharine Hepburn Text color: DAB500 Impressed to: Marlaey The Queen’s appearance and subsequent Impression, left the other Eggs unwatched. During all the commotion the Camouflaged Defense Egg hatched revealing a sage colored green with an almost serpentine shaped body. The green was being quiet and unobtrusive. She took her time approaching the girl candidates. She liked them. There was a pause as she took notice of the carnage her Golden sister had caused. Seeing one girl helping some of the others, she walked close to her. Gently the green nudged the willowy, tall woman with the dark wavy hair. How kind you are, my Eira. Let the Healers help them. You must feed me now.The Camouflaged Defense Egg Name: Siath Age: newly hatched Color: Green Appearance:Siath is a lithe looking green. Though most greens in her clutch are proportionate, Siath would not be considered so. Her body is almost serpentine in appearance. Only made more so by the length of her tail which is very long compared to an average proportioned green. She is not much taller than an average green though the length of her body will put her near the larger greens when measured. She will grow to be about 25.2 meters in length. A pale shade of sage green is the color of Siath's hide. The color is complimentary to her personality, being rather conservative. Forest green mottling is found on her belly and the underside of her tail. A lighter shade of the forest green is also seen on the underside of her wingsails. The green has large, forest green claws. Personality: There was a reason the green hid in her shell as long as she could, though most people began to think she was a dud. Siath does not like being the center of attention. She is a very defensive dragon wanting to hide herself from the world in order to protect herself and her rider from the dangers of the world. As such the green has a very hard time trusting other people and dragons. She feels very deeply and is concerned about being hurt by others because of her strong emotions. A quiet, reserved green she will not be found out chatting it up with the other greens. Instead she will be the one laying in the sun thinking long and hard about everything and anything. With her rider she is a nuturing, motherly sort who will do anything to make Eira happy. Where she loves she is constant in her love and will be very defensive of this love as well. Despite her defensive nature, Siath is not at all pushy. She is very gentle and would rather give someone a gentle nudge when needed then push them roughly one way or the other, both literally and figuratively. contemplative. Keylen watched as the dragons started hatching. He listened to the cracking of the shells softly at first then more loudly as they got closer together. He saw the first hatchling that hatched was the bronze. He heard from others that is good luck. He hoped that it was true. He saw Jared impress and was happy for him. He had a feeling that he would.
Then a blue chose someone from the stands someone that he did not know he wondered if the others know him. He did notice the eerie silence that came when the blue made his choice. He looked around and knew that was important. Something about the hatchling choice concerned them perhaps. He watched as a green when by to the girls and chose one of them. He didn’t know her well either. He knew she was from the classes but couldn’t place her face. Maybe she sat in the back of the classroom.
He saw the dark brown hatchling walk down the line stop at one of the boys near him. The brown was so dark that when he was wet he looked almost black. He wondered if the color would fade or stay that rich dark coloration. After the brown hatched another lovely green made a appears. And quite a appearance at that rolling out of her shell. Then he saw the beautiful dark green approach and heard her voice telling him her name and informing him that she was hungry.
For a moment he was breathless but he kneeled down and touched her in disbelief. “ You are hungry my beautiful Rhyseth lets get you feed. “
Yes hungry much hungry mine K’len feed me.
He smiled brightly and lead her over to the area where the others before him went to feed their dragons. He was still height from the impression and the excitement and felt like he was almost in a dream. “Its coming my darling green, Its coming Rhyseth .”

The hatching had been an… interesting one so far. She was unsure what to think about the blue dragon that Impressed to the boy in the stands. She knew she didn’t like the look of him though, or his reaction to Impressing. She forced herself to ignore it for now though. She couldn’t get upset by this, not when the gold could hatch at any moment. She needed to be calm and ready to Impress.
Lyndel kept her hands at her sides, taking deep breaths as moth eggs hatched and people around her Impressed. She didn’t care about any of the other eggs, only the golden one interested her. Yes, she was sure that it was nice to watch the dragons Impress and find their new lifemates but she had seen that multiple times before. This was her time now. She glanced at the other girls around her, Laure was on one side of her while another girl she had never bothered to learn the name of was on the other. Good, she was next to people who didn’t stand a chance, that would make her stand out even more.
At last the gold started to hatch. Lyn bit her lip in excitement as she moved to stand around the egg and watched the cracks spread. She put a hand up in front of her face as the egg suddenly exploded, bits of shell pelting her and those around her but none of them big enough to hurt her. She gasped a little as she looked at the gold, it was so beautiful, and large too! And clumsy. She couldn’t help but flinch a little as it crashed into a group of girls, one of them going down as the sand under her turned red. This wasn’t the first time she had seen candidates die from a clumsy gold, she knew the dangers of standing for one. But it was different to see it happen while you were up in the stands instead of standing just a few feet away from it.
Another was hit by the gold’s tail as she turned, but at least that girl would be able to continue standing. Lyn did her best to ignore those who were injured, she need to keep her thoughts happy and loving if she was going to attract the gold. That grew harder though as the gold tripped, her claws digging into one of the girls. The panic started to spread. The gold started to react to it as well, her wings suddenly spreading out, throwing her even more off balance. Lyndel realized what was about to happen right before the gold crashed into her and Laure. She felt a sudden burst of pain and heard something snap and passed out from the pain right before she hit the hot sands.

Therion had been watching the hatching progress, rather bored with the proceedings. She had thought that it might be exciting, but in fact it was rather dull. Most of the dragons went off to the boys, and only a few Greens went to girls. Well, it didn't matter to her anyways. The Gold was the one for her, and the rest of the dragons didn't matter one bit. The Blue that hatched even Impressed a person in the Stands. To Therion, that wasn't even right. Whoever that was, he certainly hadn't had to go through all the training that the Candidates did, all the preparations and chores and other ridiculous things. Dragons shouldn't even be allowed to Impress to people in the Stands, it was like Impressing someone who had shirked off the work that was due to all Candidates. It just wasn't right. Not that it was any concern of hers, but for some reason it still annoyed her.
More dragons hatched after that. Some Browns, some Greens, no other Blues or Bronzes though. Most of the hatchlings were supposed to be Greens, she knew, but the sheer number of them was surprising her. She had expected that there would be less of them than that. Apparently not. This was exactly why Therion wasn't going to get a Green. Those were dragons for the regular people, not someone like her, who was most certainly destined to be Weyrwoman. She didn't bother to pay much attention to any Greens that hatched, and sidestepped the few that came in the direction of the girls. Just because she wasn't going to get one of them didn't mean she needed to stand in the way of them. Might as well help them get to Theirs and then get off the Sands that much quicker. Therion wanted the place to be ready and watching when the Gold, her Gold, hatched.
There really didn't seem to be any other Bronzes though. Therion supposed it could only have been expected, with so small a clutch, but at the same time, there were so few in the Weyr that more would definitely be better. The more Bronzes there were, the better choice her Gold would have when she rose for the first time. That would still be in some Turns to come, of course, and Aeriath would no doubt have at least one more clutch before then, so it probably wasn't too much of a problem. There was bound to be another Bronze or two in the next clutch, although they wouldn't be old enough to chase her, would they? Maybe it was a problem after all.
It took forever, and a lot of Greens, before the Queen egg finally began to rock. Therion watch it with delight and joined the other girls in standing around the egg. Finally, her shining moment had come, and as the Golden glory emerged out of her egg, Therion felt a wry smile cross her face. Everyone was going to see her get the dragon she deserved. She forced herself not to run up to the Gold. It wouldn't do, and it wasn't allowed anyways. Let the Gold come to her, taking her time but finally choosing the one and only Candidate that was right for her, and Therion knew that it was her. She knew what Gold dragons were like, and she knew that she was going to get one. For no longer would she be some silly Candidate, forced to go through all sorts of rigorous chores. Instead, she would be the shining glory of the Weyr, the new blood that would lead them through this crisis of Thread that was daring to threaten Pern. Therion knew she was destined for it, and that moment had finally come. Her heart was racing with anticipation as the Queen began to stumble.
But not even Therion had expected the bloodbath that followed. The first thing the hatchling did was run straight into some young Candidates, surely killing one of them and knocking the others over. Therion watched in amazed fascionation as the sand became stained red with blood. She knew that people could get hurt at hatchings, but she hadn't known it could be this bad. Still, she stood her ground, following the Gold as she went places. Even after the dragon slashed someone's and fell on another one, who would probably die as well. Therion wasn't concerned, because she knew the Gold would never hurt the one she was destined to be with. It felt glorious to know that she was perfectly safe, because that was her future dragon stumbling on the Sands.
After knocking into some of the other Candidates (including Lyndel, to Therion's great delight) the Gold finally seemed to regain her senses, and she slowly padded up to Therion. Her heart beat even faster as she watched the creature who had caused so much destruction finally come to her, look at her with those amazing, multi-faceted eyes and...walk right past her. Therion couldn't believe it, but there was the Queen, looking at another girl before passing her on as well. Obviously, she was still confused, but she would be back here soon enough, back to claim Therion as her own, for ever and ever. The Queen had walked past Therion and run other girl (was it Trelia?) before stopping to look at another girl. Therion watched impatiently, wondering when the hatchling would turn around and come back to her. But she didn't. Instead, the great golden beast, who had killed at least two people and injured a good many more, stopped in front of the girl and looked her straight in the eyes, and then didn't look away. It took Therion quite a while through all of her disbelief and impatient, to realize that Impression had been made.
But how? She had been everything that a Queen needed. She could be a leader, she could lead the Weyr, she could take charge when needed, and would never back down if someone dared to challenge her. She had faced the dangers of coming to the Weyr, gone through all the rigors of becoming a Candidate, and had withstood it all. She had stood up to Lyndel when she thought Therion wasn't good enough, and had survived lessons with not only the Candidate Master but also the Weyrharper. She had been through so many things, and had all been for that golden glory, who had walked past her for someone else. Therion dropped to her knees as she gazed at the hatchling, not even noticing the hot feeling of the sand scorching her skin through the white wool robe.
It wasn't right, it couldn't be right. Therion had done everything the way she needed too. How could she have come down here, sure of her success, and then been passed over? She wanted to rush over, to take the Gold and force her to bond with her, the way it was suppose to be, but she couldn't. As powerful as that urge was, she couldn't bring herself to do it. It wouldn't work, she would only get hurt, and she barely even had the strength to stand. She barely even realized that something sensible had passed through her head. She was still gazing at the dragon that was meant to be hers in complete and utter despair. Therion couldn't think of a thing that she had done wrong. She had learned what Gold Candidates were supposed to be like, and she had done everything required. If anyone was ready to Impress a Gold, it was Therion, so why had another girl been chosen.
For the first time, Therion looked up to see who the Gold had chosen to be Hers. She couldn't believe it. Marlaey. The girl that Lyndel had called nothing more than a child, something that the Haven girl had actual been right about. The girl who was the same age as Therion, but acted as though she were five Turns younger. The girl who had never even wanted a Queen in particular. Marlaey, the girl Therion had paid no heed too, because Lyndel had been her only real obstacle to getting that Gold, and now this other girl, who deserved nothing more than a Green, was going to walk off with the dragon that Therion knew was meant to be hers. How? How could Pern be so cruel to her? Why bring her to this Weyr, fill her full of hopes, and then crush her? Why had that Searchdragon come, speaking of Queen dragons and of being Weyrwoman, of being a person that mattered, who would be respected and remembered, when Therion had never had a chance? She didn't, couldn't, wouldn't understand. Something had gone terribly, terribly wrong, and for once, Therion, with all of her smarts, wits, bravery, and surety, couldn't think of how to solve it.
Therion didn't even notice the people around her anymore. What did they matter? The only thing that mattered in the world was that she was alone. Hopelessly alone. No other girl had matched up to her, or so she thought. And yet, somehow, someone else had triumphed. She might as well just leave now. It didn't matter that there were two eggs left. There was nothing inside them for her. She had done everything, tried, and failed. There would be other hatchings, but if she couldn't get this Gold, how could she hope for another? For the life of her, Therion couldn't think of what she had done wrong. There were people all around her, milling around or going to help the injured Candidates, but she paid them no heed. Everything she had worked for had not worked out after all, and there wasn't a person around that cared.
So no matter how much Therion wanted to cry and throw herself on the sands and never move again, no matter how much she wanted to rush to the Gold and make the dragon Hers, no matter how much she wanted to go back in time and have never come here, no matter how much she wished Marlaey had never been born, and no matter how much she wished her own brother had never become so special, Therion could do nothing but stay on the sands, her knees burning with the intense heat she had placed them on. There was nothing to do but watch as another girl, who had never even been the kind of girl for a Gold, and who certainly hadn't had the same troubles Therion had had, walked off of the sands with the new life that Therion had dreamed of these past few days. She could only watch as the Gold that she had rested all of her hopes and dreams on left, without so much as a backward glance for the girl in the Sands who had left everything and done everything to make that dragon hers.

While her sister was quite sneaky at impressing, the passionate feeling egg waited on purpose to push her shell open when all the commotion had died down. She came forth from her shell. Taking one well placed step out of the shell, it seemed she was walking in slow motion. She wanted everyone to watch her. The green did not hesitate. Her golden sister’s mess did not bother her. All that mattered was what she wanted. So the green bypassed the female Candidates altogether. She saw the young men and began to look at them one by one. Only one would do for her and he had to be special! She caught a glimpse of him at long last and despite a clumsy little stumble moved as quickly as she could manage towards him. The green made it quite clear whom she wanted by way of nearly tackling him with her head pushing his gut. Oh Z’ten, you know you shouldn’t keep a lady like Deynzith waiting. I desire food. The Passionate Feeling Egg Name: Deynzith Age: Newly Hatched Color: Green Appearance: Of all the greens in her clutch, Deynzith is most proportionate. Every part of her is exactly where it should be. That is not to say she is by any means perfect. On each of her feet, Deynzith is missing one claw. This could potentially mean she may have trouble landing and taking off when it comes to flying. Other than that this will not affect her daily life. She is a medium sized green and will grow to be about 22.8 meters long. The coloring of her hide is a lovely deep clover green. This color does not change anywhere on her hide except on her face. Her eyeridges and muzzle are both a darker shade of clover green than the rest of her hide. This gives the green the advantage of her eyes being better shaded from the sun. Her claws are black or white, depending on the claw. Personality: Deynzith is the type of being who knows exactly what she wants. There is never a moment for doubt when it comes to this dragon. In fact it may be hard to control her because when she gets something in her head, she is not going to let it go. She is beyond stubborn at times and will try to get her way in any situation. Almost worse than Nemesyth in her vanity, she believes that any dragon would love to associate with her. She is quite possessive of whatever she deems hers. Be that her rider, her weyr or her lovers. And once she decides something is hers she becomes fixated with it so much that she might ignore other parts of her life. She can even get a little too focused on things which will take a strong willed rider to get her back. Her mind is very strong for a green and she has no wish to change that. Deynzith is resourceful, she knows how to get things when she wants them even if her rider has no idea how. She is also perceptive, to the point where she might make a good Search Dragon in the future. History: Mind Voice: Vivien Leigh (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaPMpD4oxDA) Text Color:17A217 Impressed to: Zayten The last egg, rocked and rocked, seeming to take forever. The dragonet inside seemed to be at odds with itself. The Social Butterfly Egg shattered into a million pieces, revealing not one, but two dragonets. They were small for their color, being blues. One was a darker shade of the same color blue than the other. Both at first seemed completely dazed by the light and the people. The darker blue walked toward the boys followed by his twin. There had never been twin dragonets before. The Dragonhealers were instantly worried that perhaps the dragonets were malnourished as eggs were only meant to carry one at a time. Still both dragonets were walking as steadily as dragonets could manage. The darker blue was first to impress. He looked into the eyes of a young man with grey eyes and long brown braided hair. The young man could not be prepared for what was about to happen. Hello T’mar. Petroth is yours. Yours is hungry. He is always hungry. Danuth added before heading off to find his own rider. The unique ability of the two blues was they could not only hear eachother’s thoughts but eachother’s rider’s thoughts. Though they were much more strongly bonded with the ones they impressed. The last blue of the clutch was fully expected to choose from the Candidates available to him. He did not however settle for any of them. Peering up at the Holdless boy still sitting in the Stands he said, G'off, why are you up there? I’m so hungry. Food now. Food food food food food. The Social Butterfly EggName: Petroth Age: newly Hatched Color: Blue Appearance: Petroth is a small sized blue when hatched as is his twin. The dragon is never going to be the largest of blues, dragon healers attributing this to the fact he was given less nutrition in the egg than he would have if he were the only dragon in the egg. Having to share with Danuth meant neither one got the benefits of a single dragonet. Petroth’s hide is a dark blue, lighter than a navy blue but still seen as a darker color. There is not a single blemish on his hide though like Danuth he has a dorsal stripe of darker blue that runs from the top of his neck to the tip of his tail. The two are almost identical in appearance. Danuth and Petroth are the same size and probably will remain so into adulthood. Reaching about 26.0 meters, there are still some blues smaller than they are but they would have grown to average size if they had not shared a shell. The pair have the same body proportions and would look exactly the same except for one detail. Petroth’s hide is much darker than Danuth’s. Despite this their claws are the same color a deep slate gray. This is where the similarities end. Personality: Unlike his egg mate, Petroth is a reserved sort. He is more likely to think over something before putting it into action. A good listener, he is often in the company of more talkative dragons and more often than not gives them input when asked of it. His input is often well thought out, even clever. His reservedness does not hinder him from finding and making friends. Most dragons find him to be quite friendly if a bit shy at first. He may not be the life of the party but he is the ears. That said, the blue is quite the little gossip. He likes knowing what is going on with who and why. He may not speak much but when he does it is sure to either be helpful or very interesting information. Greens are most often in Petroth’s company of all dragons though he comes off as more of a friend than a flirt. Petroth knows how to balance his life well. He can work and play and never have to worry about the one interfering with the other. He is a great multitasker and in a wing will be a wonderful addition for this reason. Sometimes though, it can be confusing to think of several things at once. He might just mix up coordinates if his rider is not paying good attention to details. History:Mind Voice: Spencer Tracy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_DQUAuNUvw) Text Color: 2E5882Impressed to: Tamar Name: Danuth Age: newly Hatched Color: Blue Appearance: Danuth is a small sized blue when hatched as is his twin. The dragon is never going to be the largest of blues, dragon healers attributing this to the fact he was given less nutrition in the egg than he would have if he were the only dragon in the egg. Having to share with Petroth meant neither one got the benefits of a single dragonet. Danuth’s hide is a lighter blue almost a periwinkle color. There is not a single blemish on his hide though like Petroth he has a dorsal stripe of darker blue that runs from the top of his neck to the tip of his tail. Personality: The problem with the Weyr was that no one could take a joke. Seriously, the dragon just wanted to have a little fun. A real fun loving type, Danuth is the life of the party whenever possible. He was upset that when he was hatched people were not happy with his choice. The dragonet knew better than they did, he wanted someone who would not hinder his free spirit. He is the quintessential social butterfly. Extroverted, charming and a bit flirtatious around greens, Danuth is rarely alone. He is not afraid to put himself out there or get himself into situations that might be hard to get out of. Danuth’s nature is changeable. One second he could be worrying about drills and the next deciding to go sunning or maybe to skip them all together. He can be a bit scatterbrained and this can be a detriment to his learning in lessons. He is curious about all that surrounds him and is unafraid to question what is. The leap without looking type, Danuth comes off as a bit reckless. History:Mind Voice: John Wayne (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHVSCribt3U) Text Color: 6786A4Impressed to: Geoff

Kestrel
Kestrel watched as each of the eggs hatched, one after the other, revealing quite a number of greens. She waited to see if any of them chose her, but so far, not a single one. Was she not good enough for them? Well what did it matter, she didn't really want to be here anyway. But now that she was, she wanted to be accepted, wanted one of the dragons to choose her.
She knew of course that she'd have no hope with the browns, or even the blues, but as yet another green hatched and passed her by she started to feel small inside.
Then, from the centre of the sands, the golden egg began to shiver. Could this be her dragon? How hopeful was she at this point? Actually trying to fool herself into thinking that the gold would choose her. But she watched nonetheless, patiently waiting for the dragonet to come forth.
When the gold finally did decide to break her shell, she caused more havoc than anyone was expecting. Staining the sands with blood she caused several people, including Kestrel to scream. She backed away to the edge of the sands, terrified. Her eyes widened as she saw a girl get slashed by the Queen's tail! There was no escape!
Kestrel decided that was that. No more hatching for her, no more putting her life at risk for the sake of a dragon. She made to run for it, but the gold was coming closer and she tripped, crashing into Kestrel. Claws dug deep into her chest, almost piercing her heart. Pain was instant and overwhelming. When the Queen released her it hurt twice as much as the original raking. She fell backwards onto the hot sand, sputtering blood, struggling to breathe. Her vision blurred. Her chest ached. She could barely seen the gold streak of the queen leaving her.
So much for dragons.
Marlaey
Joining the other young women in a semi circle around the Maiden of the Sky egg, she held her breath. With only two other eggs on the sands, her luck was beginning to run out. But perhaps that was the way it was meant to be? As the golden dragonet cracked her shell and presented herself to her weyr, there were gasps and cheers all around. She was much larger than the other golds had been. Marlaey beamed at her.
But the joy everyone felt didn't last long. At once the gold lurched forwards, trying to inspect the candidates before her, but her balance failed her and she barreled into three of them. Jumping back with the other girls, Marlaey yelped with fright when she saw what had happened. But the gold's eyes were swirling and Marlaey thought she could feel remorse emanating from her. She was just a baby! She was surrounded by strange girls and loud noises, no wonder she was confused. She wanted to help the dragonet, but she wasn't sure how, and she certainly didn't want to get maimed by her!
The queen started her inspection again, walking around the semi circle of girls. When she tripped and ripped the girl, Kestrel's chest, Marlaey cried out. Oh Faranth, she wasn't going to survive this!
The poor gold, struggling to comprehend the damage she was causing. Fear and pity mingled together within Marlaey as she looked upon her. She was surprised when the queen walked straight past Therion and Trelia. But then again, she had just knocked Laure and Lyndel unconscious... Maybe she didn't want to risk hurting anyone anymore?
As she was thinking this a voice entered her mind and two bright rainbow orbs entered her line of view. Marlaey I am Elynth. Are you not hungry? I am. I’d like to eat.
Marlaey felt it, felt that hunger, like a burning need, she was ravenous. But she felt more than that. She felt Elynth's regret and confusion about the other candidates, she felt her relief at finding Hers at last, she felt her fear at touching her even now... Without hesitation, without fear, with only love and trust and an unbelievable desire to be with her always, Marlaey rushed forwards and wrapped her arms about the coppery gold's neck. Nothing else in the world mattered right now. They were together, There was nothing to be afraid of. She poured her heart into the gold dragon before her and was overjoyed as Elynth received it and reciprocated the gesture. "I love you", she whispered, barely audible.
I love you too.
Feeling her dragon's desperate need to eat, she broke contact and looked up, "Lets go get you something to eat my darling."

Once the initial shock of a Holdless being chosen faded, Eira watched as other dragonets hatched and moved onto the various other candidates to impress on. She was glad for all of them naturally and watched them lead their dragons to get them fed. There was no doubt in her mind that the dragonets were hungry. That was when the Maiden of the Sky Egg began to crack. She knew that many of the other female candidates were waiting for this judging by how it seemed like they stood up a little straighter. But, that was when what she was worried about happening happened. The golden dragonet trampled three of the other candidates, one she could tell was dead with how much blood was gathering around her.
That was the dangers of a hatching at times, there really wasn't anything that could be done besides making sure she didn't wind up harmed or killed herself. She was only brushed past thankfully and she moved away from the Queen who was still considering her lifemate. Instead, Eira let herself move to those who had fallen and was hurrying to move them a little more to the edge of the sands. Honestly, she felt she needed to help them more than paying attention to one of the eggs cracking. There were the girls who needed help and it would probably be better for them to be moved now instead of trampled again.
It seemed the gold had impressed on Marlaey, but as mentioned Eira was making sure Laure and Lyndel were okay now. They were still alive thankfully, even though they were wounded and would need to be carefully healed they were still alive at the very least. With her mind on the girls she did not notice the green that approached her until she was nudged gently in her back and she was spoke to. How kind you are, my Eira. Let the Healers help them. You must feed me now.” In a way, she was surprised that she was impressed but, here Siath was. Please, my Eira. Siath ever so hungry. Eira swallowed slightly before nodding. “Alright then Siath, let me get you something to eat.” She mentioned softly and reaching up she lightly patted the dragonets long neck.
One last glanced at the wounded girls and to the disappointed Therion before the hungry ache from her dragonet hit her hard and her lips curled into a small smile as she lead the hungry Siath off the sands. Getting the bucket of meat for the large green, she couldn't help the small smile grow as she watched the dragonet gobble down what was given. More my Eira.” To which Eira got the hungry creature another bucket of meat.

Tamar stood patiently and watched as egg by egg hatched and as each one went past him, some taking the time to look, but non stopping for him. Trying desperatly not to lose faith, he silently cheered each new mated pair. The scarest thing he had ever seen was the Gold. Even after all that they had been told could happen on the sands didn't prepare him for that. What a mess, all those girls that were hurt or worse.
Time seemed to move in slow motion after that, lost in the horror of the scene before him he almost missed seeing there was still two eggs on the sands. He watched the first one hatch lost in a fog as it waddled past him. Shaking himself mentally, Tamar concentrated on the remaining egg. He didn’t seem to notice he was almost alone on the sands, it didn’t matter to him, there was still a chance.
Watching as the egg rocked harder and seemed to have a harder time then the others in cracking open, Tamar’s mouth fell open in a silent O when 2 little blue dragonets emerged blinking in the lights of the hatching cavern. He never heard of there being twins hatched before.
Still watching in awe, Tamar couldn’t believe his eyes when the darker of the twins stopped in front of him; Hello T’mar. Petroth is yours. Yours is hungry. He is always hungry. Danuth added before heading off to find his own.
So shocked, he sat down on the sands in front of his beautiful blue, looking from one to the other then back to Petroth. Did he really hear another dragon talk to him? Yes T’marmine, you can hear us both, are we not twins after all? I am hungry T’marmine, aren’t you going to feed me? Scrambling to his feet he grinned until he felt his face was going to split open “yes, yes, lets go feed you.”
Together the pair headed for the fresh meat and the others feeding their newly hatched life mates. A whole new world and possibilities just opened up the pair of them. He couldn’t wait for it all to begin.
