With almost no one being allowed onto the Hatching Sands to see the new clutch, no one had been able to get any sort of proper betting going on. It was hard enough trying to find out just how many eggs there were on the sands. But, B’ren had been lucky. Three of his foster siblings were candidates this time around and all three of them had been more then happy to help him out. Mainly because he had offered to give them a cut of his profits. The better the descriptions he got, the more marks they’d get in the end. He had finally come up with a good list of all the eggs, and a decent list of all the candidates the Weyr currently had. With a little extra work, he had come up with good set of odds for what color the eggs might be and for what colors the candidates might Impress to.
B’ren set up a sheet listing the eggs and the candidates. People would be able to fill out their guess and give them to him. Once the hatching came, then they’d see who had the best guesses. If he was lucky, maybe he’d be able to find some extra little prize to give the people who got the most correct guesses.

D'isk saw the betting table and just had to go take a peek. Gambling had never been D'isk's forte, but he enjoyed it nonetheless. Taking a look at the sheet, D'isk began to place his bets.

Not one to normally gamble, K'dan decided that this might be fun. He wasn't too far off guessing some of the egg colors to the dragonette colors from his class, he even guessed right for part of what color his classmates impresed. He looked at the list awhile then carefully made his choices. He had seen most of the new ones even if he didn't know them. Shrugging and pushing his mop of unruley whitish hair out of his eyes again, he wrote down his choices and headed for a table for a snack and klah in just that order.

Leaving his list on the table for a moment, K'dan took his tray back and refilled his cup of klah. Returning to his seat once more, he pulled his list over for another look. Taking time to sip his klah, he remembered back to his early Candidate days. Chuckling at a few memories of good times he turned his attention back to checking over his list shaking his head. K'dan knew there wasn't as many eggs as candidates and he wished them all well. The luckiest day of his life was impressing Osirith. Osirith was small for his color, but her made up for it by being one of the fastest and best in his class, and he could stay to the end with his bigger clutchmates of the same color with no problems. Keeping these thoughts to himself he didn't want to upset his best friend.
After finishing his klah, he put his cup away and headed over to turn in his bet. There were a few that were fairly new to him and he wasn't sure on some of his choices, but what the heck, he had as good a chance as any of them at a guess. As he was heading outside, he called to his life mate.
Osirith lets go for a swim, I feel like getting wet, what do you say? he asked as he headed out the door.
The responce was quick, Osirith was waiting for him when he emerged. With a shout, K'dan made the now familuar leap to his partners back, strapping in he gave the command to take off. Once they were far enough in the air, Osirith greeted the watch dragon letting him know they were going for a swim. Once they were high enough, K'dan sent the image of the place he was thinking of to his sturdy blue, with a roar of pleasure, Osirith took them between. It was going to be a wonderful swim.

Ajallvon smiled to himself. It almost seemed like Candidates shouldn't be allowed to bet on this, but at the same time it was a good idea. If they voted based on the people they were friends with then it wasn't likely that they would be correct. He himself always enjoyed doing this kind of thing and he figured it wouldn't be so bad to try it.

Eira had no idea why she was taking part of the betting. Honestly, most day's she didn't believe in frivolous bets. Either way, the young woman took a few minutes to write down what she thought would hatch and who would get what. Naturally, there were a more candidates than eggs. There was really bound to be those who did not impressed. At least not this time around. B'ren had carefully gone through everyone's betting sheets and counted out the correct guesses for everyone. He did feel a little bad for the candidate betting, next time he would have to add something for stands Impressions. Still, most of them had done a pretty good job. He had separated the marks out for all the bets and had counted out his own profits. And had even gotten lucky, one of the girls he often flirted with from the kitchens had a cat who had had a litter of babies. She couldn't keep them all but B'ren had been more then happy to take them off her hands, promising to find them all a good home. So, on the day that all the betters were come to get their prizes he not only had a small bag of marks labeled for each person but also a box of cats. Those that had done the best would get their picks first. Mama Cat laid in the box with her little babies all around her some of them dozing peacefully while others kept trying to escape, only to get gently swatted back into the box. "Alright boys and girls! Everyone can come and get the marks they earned as I call your name and then you can pick out a nice little kitty if you want. Only the babies though." Tortoiseshell:  Blue/Gray:  Winner Order:J’von and the Black  D’sik and the Silver Tabby  Eria and the brown tabby  T’mar and the white  R’kin and the Tuxedo  K’len and the Orange  P'lel and Calico  Seirsha and Momma Cat  (aside from the calico and the tortoiseshell, you get to pick the gender of your kitty and it's personality. The hatching betting had definitely been a fun element to add to the hatching, although J'von found that he had done far better than he thought that he would. It made him kind of glad that he'd participated in it; besides the fact that it had been fun, he had even one some marks out of it. It wasn't until he had arrived to claim his prize that he realized he'd won more than marks. B'ren was standing with a box of kittens next to him, and J'von found himself ushered into choosing a cat as well.
Mnemoth was indiginant. You do not need a cat, J'von. You have Mnemoth.
It's not like you're being replaced, replied J'von, who, despite the trouble a cat might be, found himself keen to the idea. They could always use an extra friend, and kittens weren't quite so high-maintenance as dragons or firelizards. From what he knew, they just kept to themselves mostly.
The box contained the mother cat, and nine little bundles of fur, all different colors. Some of them were running around, and others were sleeping. There was a little silver tabby one that J'von thought was cute, if a bit rambunctious. J'von smiled at the antics of the little kitten and thought about it. His gaze found a little black kitten, relatively small compared to most of the others, and doing nothing much except gazing at him with solemn blue-gray eyes. He gently stretched his hand over and picked the little kitten up. She was small and quiet.
Well, the smaller the kitten was, the less time it would take to give it a bath, and Mnemoth probably wouldn't enjoy having a very excitable cat around. Still, might as well ask his approval. What do you think of a little black kitten?
You do not need a kitten, but if you must, get one that won't annoy me.
J'von didn't have a clue if the kitten would turn out being "annoying" to Mnemoth. He held the little cat close to his chest and turned to B'ren. "I'll keep the little black one, and I'll take good care of her." It might be difficult, having Mnemoth to take care of and all, but it might end up being rewarding. He looked the little kitten over again as he walked away. She was completely black, except for her blue-gray eyes. What do you think I should call her? he asked Mnemoth.
Whatever you like the Brown replied with a tired sigh.

Bounding down the halls to the betting booth of a few days before. He had won a prize and he was more than eager to collect it. Especially since he had heard that the prize was the pick of a littler of felines. Most of the other riders had firelizards, but D'isk had never been inclined towards the little critters, even if they did resemble dragons. The thought of a furry baby feline was another matter though.
You are acting like you get to Impress all over again. You will have to show me this feline you pick out so that I can see what all the fuss is about.
Saluting, even though he knew Kalith couldn't see it and knew it probably looked weird, D'isk snapped to attention before wiggling into excited motion once more. He was so close to the betting table.
D'isk arrived and practically pounced on the box containing the kittens. They were all so adorable with their bright eyes and excitable little paws. Reaching down indiscriminately, D'isk pulled the silver tabby out of the box.
"I am going to keep this one!"
Nuzzling the feline's cheek with his nose, D'isk looked utterly ridiculous cooing at the small thing.
"Your a girl, so your name shall be Reela."
Snuggling the kitten again, D'isk hugged her to his chest and took off down the halls back to his weyr so that he could introduce his two pretty girls to one another.

T'mar was excited, he won a prize and a mark or two at the betting booth. He hurried down the corridor to claim his prize. When he approached the table, he noticed a box of kittens. Looking down into the box he noticed the little white one. It reminded him of his mothers cat. Bending down he snagged the little thing up to his chest. The little thing started purring right away, closing its eyes and leaning into the fingers that were rubbing its ear.
What is that T'marmine, do we get to keep it? Pet asked sounding just as excited as His was. Some one for him to help take care of sounded like a good thing to Petroth.
When he found out he not only got a mark but also the choice of the kittens, he grinned ear to ear the second time in about as many days. "Its a girl, I'll call her shammy. Pet and I promise to take good care of her, he's excited too." T'mar finished off as he turned and headed back to the weyrling barracks. Yep, life was good.

R'kin came down the stairs to get his small amount of marks because he wanted to claim his prize and got the few marks that he'd earned from the betting. While he found out that they would get kittens and deceided on the tuxedo one that was trying to sneak out. He looked at it was a female and he smiled as he knew that his bronze would dragon would approve as he held the small ball of fur. "I'll name you Lux," said R'kin as he held her close then smiled as feelings of approval came from his dragon that was very understanding. In truth it was his bronze dragonet was much like a green in personality and he smiled as he bounded up the stairs again with his prizes.

Eira was more than a little surprised that she tied for second place with D'isk for a little kitten. Siath on the other hand, was curious about the whole idea of a feline. ”Will a little creature such as a feline make you happy, my Eira?” The dragonet asked as her lifemate rubbed in the oil into her hide. “I wouldn't mind a little fluff ball to keep me company when you can't Siath.” Eira replied lightly. “You're not going to be replaced either.” The green let out a soft rumble. ”Oh I know I won't need to worry about that. I chose you well.” Siath told the tall girl who chuckled and had the growing green lift her wings so she could lightly oil them too.
Once she was done washing the green, Eira was rubbing the excess oil off her hands a little. “You'll be alright Siath?” She asked lightly and the dragonet nodded her head. ”I'm just going to sun myself, I want to see this feline that you choose though. After all if we need to share you I might as well like him or her too.” Siath her and Eira smiled before lightly patting Siath's neck. “Will do. I'll try to choose well then.” ”I'm sure you will.” Siath mentioned before wandering off to find a good quiet place to sun herself.
It wasn't long before she made herself over to where the kittens were, taking up her little bag of marks. She would figure out what to spend them on later but first, she needed to pick out what bundle of fluff for herself to keep. At first, she liked the blue-gray and scratched the kitten for a moment but, the little brown tabby walked over to her. The small boy purred and licked at her hand and Eira couldn't stop the large smile from spreading across her face. “Alright then, looks like I'm keeping you little guy.” She said and scooped up the brown tabby cat who purred even more and licked at her face. Nodding to B'ren before walking off back to the weyrbowl and to Siath.
The dragonet looked up as the small cat meowed. “Instead of choosing him, he chose me!” Eira said with a laugh and the dragon rumbled before sniffing at the kitten. ”He knows how to choose well then my Eira!” The dragonet mentioned before the small kitten bravely licked the dragons snout. ”What is his name?" She asked lightly. "I don't know yet, but I'm sure it'll come to me soon."
