Her wake up call in the morning had been that of her dragon's voice, sweet as ever before. Good morning. Drills this afternoon. The dragon was using this as a reminder for her now hungover rider. Vaylee had a vague awareness that she was not in her own bed. As was her usual she left shortly after waking, making sure nothing of hers was left behind.
Between then and now she had taken time to go back to her weyr and wash up. Cupith would take her Between later after drills. One could not be too careful. Then she had dressed in her riding leathers and walked down to the Weyrhall. She needed to drink water to help get rid of the enormous headache she had. Vaylee was beginning to feel like it was not a good idea to drink so much at the celebration.
And now she was eating some fruit and a roll for breakfast. For some odd reason, the Weyrhall felt empty. While she always had plenty of friends to be around. The event last night and then waking up strangely unaware of what she had even done, made her rethink who she was. It was thoughts related to this that brought her to sit alone in the Weyrhall. For the first time in a long time she felt alone. The question was why?

M'rek was in his weyr as he woke up to feel a little lightheaded and said, "Whooo," as the room was spinning though was thankful that the room he woke up to no one was around. When he saw that his green dragon was still fast asleep and got dressed very slowly. The green rider got dressed in his leather pants and a white long sleeve shirt as the room was still spinning though it got better as he walked. His dragon fast asleep odviously tired and he didn't wake her as he walked down the hallway that lead to the lower caverns.
The area was very empty as he looked around and some klah then some bread as he sat down. When he saw one woman rider and then sat down from a table from her. His mind was still spinning and he didn't want a lot of company this morning as he started to eat. "That is what you get," said Isith as he heard a tone in the voice and just ignored it. She was no doubt awake now and probably going down to the pens to eat. His mind was whirling right now and he just sighed this had been a long night. A new world was theirs now with a tapping ceremony and not being with the same people that they'd been with the last few turns.

Vaylee sipped at her water, as if trying to taste the liquid on her tongue. Cupith was resting on her ledge now doing her best not to interject on her rider’s inner thoughts. Sometimes people needed to work things out for themselves. What could cause Vaylee to think so little of herself? She was beautiful and somewhat intelligent though the young woman would say there were plenty of other people much smarter than herself. She had an important job and was a dragonrider which in and of itself made her a very important person here at the Weyr.
The blonde looked up from the roll she was peeling at instead of eating and watched the other greenrider sit down. He seemed lost in his own thoughts too. Besides, she was not sure she should confide her thoughts in just anyone. Not that she didn’t know M’rek but they had never been very close. He was a greenrider and a good man but Vaylee tended to hang out with another group of people. Still she wondered if he might also be a victim of last night’s celebration.
After tearing her roll into tiny pieces she realized her thoughts were doing her no good. She should be happy. Why wasn’t she happy? Everything was perfect. She had a dragon, a career and plenty of men if she chose to be with them. Yeah, everything was quite perfect. She sighed, then why did she feel like something was missing? She took a bite into the red fruit now being brandished in her right hand. This would pass, she told herself and tried to push these thoughts out of her mind.

M'rek was finishing up eating when he saw the young woman and saw that she seemed deep in thought. He got through eating then he got up even though every though in his head said not to. The young green rider went up to her and asked, "Can I have a seat," as he looked at her? It was not in his personality to usually go over to a person and just ask to sit down yet she seemed depressed. When he looked around if possible the room was more empty then before with workers disappearing and he sighed. A time of the day that he should be out working with his dragon not getting over last night's celebration.
His thoughts went to last night and smirked it had been a good night yet all the weyrlings had too much to drink. The celebration had went long into the night and no doubt there would be a new generation of weyrbrates born in nine months. M'rek knew that many of the riders had been with other riders or workers last night. The young man was just looking at her sheepishly with a mug of klah in his hand and asked, "You seem like you are deep in though."? It was a awkward silence the type that M'rek tended to hate and looked at her for a moment. If she didn't want any company he was sure that the woman would tell him because women riders didn't have a problem making themselves known.

When M’rek approached she was slightly surprised although it did not show on her face. Her nature would not allow her to sulk and say she did not want company. Vaylee had a habit of being overly nice to people. Even other greenriders despite the competition some of them seemed to have with one another. The blonde put her half eaten red fruit back on her plate, while her other hand brushed a few stray strands of hair out of her face. Nodding Vaylee said in the soft voice she had been known for having in the infirmary, “Of course you can, M’rek.”
Deep in thought was the understatement of the Turn. Since when did she spend so much time evaluating herself? “Yeah, I’m not really myself today.” She admitted. Anyone in her Weyrling Class would know Vaylee to be outgoing and friendly. Today she seemed more introverted. The best things in her life were going great so she could not imagine what had brought on this funk she was in.
Vaylee was not one to keep things to herself either. Looking down at the scattered remains of the roll and the half eaten redfruit, she tried to keep herself from talking. However he was there and he would not have come over if he wanted to sit in complete solitude. “We’ve all been so excited to be riders and me as much as anyone. Now that I have everything I thought I could want, I feel like I’m missing something. The hardest thing is I don’t know what it is I am missing.”
Obviously if she knew what the problem was she would already have gone about fixing it. However, she was oblivious to things about herself often overlooking some of the deeper parts to her existence. After all, life was more fun if one didn’t think too hard about it. Too bad Cupith was not in the mood for discussion. If anyone knew Vaylee better than she knew herself it was Cupith. Deciding she shouldn’t be the only one to talk she asked, “What were you thinking about?”

M'rek sat down with a smile on his face then looked at Vaylee then said, "Well, I'm thinking that I shouldn't have drink so much last night,". He had drank too much at the celebration which was apparent from the headache and he looked at Vaylee she seemed at little off. "I take you had too much to," said M'rek as he looked at her then smiled a little they all had too much fun last night. The green rider looked around then noticed that the cooks we're already putting on meat to prepare for dinner he'd really over slept. "Your not yourself," said M'rek as he noticed how quiet Vaylee was and not herself. She was always talkative to people and way more outgoing then what he was at times.
He hadn't really gotten to know her weyrling training there we're just too many of them. The green rider looked at her for a moment then sipped his klah because he was just thinking how he had not got to known some of his fellow weyrlings. His personal view we're that some of the brown and bronze riders looked down on them since they rode green. It was even more unusual that a green rider had started impressing girls and even blues recently. A male thing it seemed yet he cared not because a dragon to the rider in the right match was the most important thing.

“I did drink a little much. My head hurts like its being pounded by some hammer. I’m drinking water. It is supposed to help.” When she worked in the infirmary she had learned not to complain of a headache. Then the Healers were all over her telling her all their remedies for it. The one she found most useful was drinking water and it was easy to do. That M’rek even noticed she was not her usual self bothered her. They barely knew each-other. She must be in a bad way if someone who only knew her in passing recognized she was different.
She needed to be on her way now or she really was going to be late to her other job. “Sorry to run off on you so soon but I have Dragon Healing lessons today.” Of course she’d still have lessons even after graduating. For someone who thought she was not so bright, she sure had a lot of a classes and lessons to worry about over the Turns. She forced one of her white smiles and said goodbye to M’rek, “Hope your hangover gets better M’rek. Try drinking water. It does help. See you around.” She took her tray from the table and brought it to the designated tray drop off table. Then she was on her way to work. Two jobs. What was she thinking?

M'rek listed to her as she talked and then she had to go well that was quick. "Okay, bye," said M'rek as he watched her leave then finished up his klah and looked at her back as she left. It was time to be getting back his green dragon as she would want to flying for a while. He got up then left his cup on the table and stretched today was the start of their grown up life. They we're full riders now and besides practice would be able to come and go as they please.
His riding leathers we're clean back in his room and he went back to his personal weyr as he got dressed. The young green rider got dressed as Isith was loaded up her saddle and then he got on her. It was then the two of them took off and they we're off to drills.
