Parallel sat in the common room, his hands busy sharpening his knife blade and his mind wandering back to the eggs on the sands. There weren't very many, but hopefully one of them would choose him as a rider. He an an inexplicable urge to prove himself.
His time spent here so far had been busy, there were chores to be done, lessons to be learned.. He hadn't had much time for himself. But if he did Impress, he knew that things would get even busier, that the pace would increase tenfold. The idea of work didn't bother him at all, he just wanted to make sure he didn't lose himself in the process.
Kialio swooped over to him, landing on his shoulder and chirping amiably. The bronze had been his companion for some time and if being bonded to a dragon felt stronger than this he relished the opportunity. He would love to share himself with a creature who would stay with him the rest of his life. Kialio peeped. "I know you're here buddy, but wouldn't you like someone bigger to ride around on?" The fire lizard seemed to consider this before he jumped down, searching the floor for scraps.
Par sighed and leaned back in his chair. It was just a waiting game now.

Wearing her coarse working dress and some work boots, Laure had set off early that morning for chores in the kitchen. She was not entirely sure she liked cooking though it was better than the alternatives. Laundry and cleaning the common areas, ick. The young woman had never done so much hard work in her life. Maybe she had gotten away with more with the Holdless because they did not much care what she was doing so long as she stayed out of everyone's hair.
Laure walked into the Common Room and slumped into the first chair to cross her path. Here though, everyone had to pull their weight in order to make things work. So far the kitchen workers had been very nice to her and accommodating. Eventually she would get baking down but man was she tired of nearly burning her hands. They were coarse from all the things she had done with her life but nothing she had done amounted to much.
Finally released from her inner thoughts she looked about her. Dark eyes met with a young man and his Bronze Firelizard. Oh she would love to touch his hide. She'd never been so close to one before. When the youth talked to him, she realized neither one had noted her arrival. "He's lovely. What do you call him?" Indicating the firelizard, she spoke loudly enough that he would hear her clearly, despite the natural delicacy of her voice.

Looking around Parallel was surprised to see someone else had entered the room. He immediately felt foolish for not having noticed her. His mind had been very far away.
"Thank you very much," he said, while his bronze stretched his wings, showing off a little now. "His name is Kialio, I'm Parallel. I'm sorry we didn't see you come in, my thoughts were elsewhere." He looked slightly abashed, as though Laure had walked in on something intimate. But Kialio felt no such shame. He fluttered over to the girl happily hoping for a good scratch and some attention.
Par rolled his eyes, such a bronze. If only he were this confident around gold's, he might've sired a clutch by now! But Kialio only seemed comfortable around human females, everything else appeared to frighten him.
"He's a bit full of himself around girls," Parallel chuckled as he watched the flit land beside Laure and croon to her. He smiled at her, trying to recall her name.
