Thread. That was something that had dwelled on Hu'sik's mind recently. He wanted to go back home, find some way to save his family from that oncoming threat. But he couldn't just leave the Weyr. It was all up to the Weyrleaders, and he didn't know what the plan was. "They haven't said anything about it yet. I don't think the Weyr has many sympathies with the North, and they care to much about the troubles of their own." Refuge Weyr was probably going to conserve all of its strength on protecting the people of the South, and that thought terrified Hu'sik. They couldn't just leave innocent people in the North, who hadn't even been the ones to send the dragonriders away in the first place, to suffer from Thread. The Expedition had been sent out to get help for the North, and right now that didn't seem to be working. It was certainly the choice of the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman, but Hu'sik could only hope they would make the right choice. They had no family or kin in the North, and the people that did were all relatively new dragonriders.
But if the Weyrleaders weren't willing to let them even warn the people up North about the coming danger, then the only thing to do would be to do something themselves. But what could they do? Refuge and Haven put together probably didn't have the fighting power to protect all of the North, and a few young dragonriders would hardly make a difference at all. The only thing to do seemed to be to wait for the decision of the Weyrleader. Hu'sik certainly didn't envy anyone that position. He was glad that Anubith was a Blue. Bronzes were far to much work, and carried a lot of responsibility, especially if they caught the Senior Queen. That was the kind of pressure Hu'sik never wanted to deal with.
