"Do I look taller to you? I don't feel taller..." He spoke to his dragon while trying to find a pair of pants to wear. Or'yn had not yet ordered leathers as the Weyrling Master thought it would be a waste of material. Instead he got hand me down leathers whenever he grew out of one pair there was another pair waiting. It seemed he had grown again though he was nowhere near the size of any of the other young men from this clutch. He was the shortest with the third largest dragon in the clutch. Rath had grown well and was getting closer to maturity. At 20 months old they only had four more months of Weyrlinghood before they were placed into a Wing.
You look about the same to me, short one.He would be rather young to graduate but he did not doubt that he would be allowed to continue on into a Wing. "AH HA! Gotcha!" Or'yn remarked as he finally found the pair that would fit him. Quickly placing them on he walked out to the common room. Soon they would be given their own weyrs and he would no longer come here except when he had a lesson. Those too would be over soon. Two Turns of this and it would just go poof. He wondered if anyone knew what wing they were being placed in yet. While he had not yet been interviewed, he was sure that they were beginning to interview the Weyrlings.
Or'yn searched the common room for a familiar face and found that it was fairly empty. Perhaps they were doing chores. Which is what you should be doing. Rath spoke condescendingly. "Why should I? Those boys practically begged me to let them do my chores in exchange for helping me bathe you." Both things of course worked in his favor. I do not understand why they listen to you. After which the dragon equivalent of an eye roll came. "Aww come on Rath, its not hurting anyone and they really did beg me to meet you in exchange for chores. That was all they had to offer."
Did he look like he was talking to himself? Probably. Did he care? Not really. His reputation never really concerned him much but Rath was very concerned about their reputations. He wanted to be seen as a good Bronze and despite Or'yn's lazy streak he had always made the time to take care of the Bronze as he should.

The day had started off well. Anubith didn't need a bath, as he'd had one two days ago. Somehow, Hu'sik had managed to get out of chores that morning, although perhaps everyone else had too. And to top it off, no one had tried to have a ridiculously long conversation with him. That was probably the only bad part of being at the Weyr. Listening to other people talk to themselves started to get rather boring after awhile.
You could talk back to them. Then you would have more friends Anubith suggested to his rider lightly. Hu'sik didn't bother to respond to that. Anubith's one real difference from Hu'sik was that he actually liked to talk to others. Of course, dragons were friends with each other much more easily than humans. They had short memories and were meant to get along. Otherwise they wouldn't all live together. Not that such a silly thing could keep Anubith from wanting Hu'sik to be great friends with the riders of all the dragons he was friends with. For all of the Blue's intelligence, he just couldn't seem to give up on Hu'sik. It was partially annoying, but quite nice at the same time. At least it was comforting to know that someone was looking out for him.
There came the sudden sound of someone talking. Hu'sik ran everyone he knew through his head but he still couldn't decide. Then again, it wasn't like he actually remembered the voices of everyone. He'd met all of the weyrlings before, but usually he stayed away from looking like he might want a conversation, and he didn't exactly pay attention to them all the time. You ought too. Hu'sik ignored that advice too. Why couldn't Anubith give his advice out to everyone else? The dragon's favorite thing seemed to be telling Hu'sik what would help make his life better. It figured that the dragon couldn't be bothered to give his free advice to anyone else. Perhaps Hu'sik was the only one that would accept it.
His mind had wandered again. Now he could identify the voice as belonging to the young weyrling that had just walked in. What was his name? O, Oy, Or, Or'yn. That was it. He was the small boy with the Bronze. Hu'sik had been that small once, although he doubted it was at the age Or'yn was at. Well, they couldn't all be tall. Besides, it was probably easier to avoid conversations if you were tiny. You have no trouble with that anyway Hu'sik.
Oh be quiet he suggested to the Blue. Shaking his head in the meantime. Anubith really did need someone else to give his advice to.

The young Bronzerider noticed a change in the room the moment that the bluerider had entered. However he was not going to let Rath have final say in this. They would speak more about it later. He did not need to seem like he was losing his mind in front of other people. "Hello Hu'sik" Or'yn said in a cheery manner. The boy was hard not to like, in fact he was well liked by almost everyone. Although he had not spent more than a little bit of time with the rider of Anubith he had made it a challenge to remember everyone in their Weyrling class. He could even recognize all the dragons on sight.
"I was just having a debate with an obstinate dragon. They think they know everything..." He trailed seeming a bit irritated that his dragon did not like the way he handled business. Rath would be happy when bath time came along and it didn't take five candlemarks to finish him. I'm the obstinate one? Take a peak in a looking glass sometime. Stubborn little two legged. Or'yn grinned. "Now he says I'm the stubborn one. I guess like dragon like rider."
He looked the other boy over a moment. Yeah, again he was the short one. Ugh. As far as he knew Hu'sik was a bit shy where Or'yn was one of the most outgoing people anyone was likely to meet. "So what are you up to today? " Or'yn would like to hang out with someone other than his sister today. He was quite glad too for his sister's dragon was almost too cheery and nice for Rath who would complain to Or'yn about the incessant gossip of female dragons.

Hu'sik was so lost in thought that he had momentarily forgotten Or'yn's presence, and almost started when the other rider talked to him. He didn't say anything back at first. He didn't know what to say in the first place, and he wasn't inclined to saying hello to everyone he came across. It was quite unfortunate that other people did feel that urge. It was something Hu'sik had never understood. Anubith had tried to explain it to him once, but still hadn't gotten the point across. Certainly seeing the other person was enough. Why go up and talk to them?
Shards. Or'yn had been saying something, and Hu'sik had missed whatever it was. He caught back on just in time for the bronzerider to ask him what he was doing. Suddenly finding himself with a question to answer, Hu'sik tried to think up something to say. "Not much, really. No chores right now." It was quite true, after all.
Anubith was not happy with his answer. There is much more to say than just that. Hu'sik, however, did not feel much like finding something else to say. Anubith could do that if he wanted too, but Hu'sik still preferred trying to avoid long conversations. Talking just invited someone else to talk even more, thus extending all of that talking. Hu'sik would much rather avoid that.

He was not sure at first if the other youth had heard him. Waiting patiently was a little difficult but he knew Hu'sik was rather quiet, even in lessons. The other boy was probably just more of an introvert. While Or'yn had never been quiet, even as a baby, he supposed it took all types to impress dragons. Though he did not know why anyone would take so long to respond! Or'yn might not be known for patience, especially at the young age of fifteen. When the boy finally responded, he was ready to go on with the conversation.
“Cool. I had chores.” The emphasis was placed on had! “Apparently my dragon thinks it unethical to give chores to people in exchange for meeting and bathing a dragon.” He was hoping Hu'sik had no such qualms with giving away chores to people who wanted to do them. “There is no pleasing him. If I don't have help it takes too long.” He was not going to go into how large the dragon was now. He was almost at full size nearing 35 meters. They estimated he'd be average and boy was he growing to be close to his father's size.
“Does Anubith need a bath today? I ask because I have a bunch of brats coming to help bathe Rath. If you wanted some help bathing Anubith they would be just as happy to bath him. All they want is to be around dragons.” And they would give Or'yn nearly anything he wanted to meet Rath. All he had asked was for them to do some chores. It wasn't the end of the world or anything.

Or'yn certainly did talk a lot. Hu'sik wasn't sure how long this conversation was going to last. "He shouldn't need a bath. He just had one two days ago," Hu'sik told the other rider. It figured that everyone would jump up to help scrub down a Bronze dragon. Well, with a dragon that size the help would be useful. Hu'sik was perfectly fine bathing Anubith himself. The Blue was over half of Rath's size, but still significantly smaller, and a small size for a Blue dragon as well. Most blue dragons, and even some of the Greens, were larger than Anubith. He was much easier to scrub down. Hu'sik didn't feel it was really necessary to ask the younger children to help with chores. They probably did need things to do, but still.
Well he, Hu'sik, wasn't about to go around asking for help. It was nice of Or'yn to ask, but there just wasn't anything to get done. The boy might be smaller than him, but he definitely had spirit, and he was way more talkative. Perhaps that was what Bronze dragons looked for in their riders. Hu'sik didn't know. He was happy enough with Anubith. You couldn't ask for a better partner to have for the rest of your life.

Not a very sociable fellow is he? Not at all. Still it can't hurt to try to get him to come out of his shell. Good luck with that small one. Thanks. I think. The young Bronzerider wondered if perhaps the other wanted to be left completely alone. How could anyone live like that? No human interaction was not a good thing although the same could probably be said for too much social interaction. “I see. Well should you change your mind we're going to be out there mid-afternoonish.”
What else could he say? It was obvious the other boy wanted him to go. So he would do what he could. “Are you concerned about interviews coming up?” Cause he should be! Perhaps. Then again some Wingleaders might want their riders to be silent so they can listen to what is being said! Are you saying I talk too much? No. Just commenting that you don't know what a Wingleader would be looking for in a rider yet. Oh Faranth save the Weyr should we ever be Wingleaders.
“I'm not sure which wing I'd prefer to be in. Both A'lez and D'seus seem to be excellent wingleaders. I'm more concerned where everyone else is going to be placed. Especially my sister, she rides a green from our clutch, Shivath.” He explained. The thing of it was, the people he was closest to being placed in another wing would be difficult. Not that he couldn't win people over eventually no matter where he was placed. Simply he didn't want to have to start over with new friends. There was a little part of him that was worried they wouldn't graduate him. He was only fifteen and he was small. They might make them wait and Rath would be so upset if they did!

Which wing do you like Hu'sik? Anubith asked of his rider casually. I haven't a clue, and it doesn't really matter. They'll decide which one I fit best in. There isn't a wing for silent people; you'll have to talk to them. Hu'sik ignored the last bit. He wasn't really looking forward to the interview, because he wasn't sure which wing it would place him in and whether or not he would like it. "I don't really care about which wing, but I'd still rather the interview was over with." It would be much better to have it behind him rather than looming in front of him.
It was also apparent that Or'yn was one of those people who liked to talk. While Hu'sik still couldn't understand that, there wasn't much he could do about it either. You know, you could just converse with him. It really wouldn't be that bad. He might end up leaving sooner. It didn't matter to Hu'sik how he got that advice though; he wasn't going to do anything of the sort. That was the worst part of having Anubith around, but other than the suggestions to be more social, Hu'sik couldn't have a better friend.
