“Eve?” Kyrah asked aloud knowing the flitter knew her own name. The Gold had heightened emotions going through her head and it was hard for the red head to keep up. Mostly she caught on that it was excitement. “Oh dear. Theres not much time.” She thought not sure how to alert all the different people who she had expected to come. Maybe through Tydus she could get Aeriath to contact those she needed for the Eggs. This was why everyone should have a firelizard. Messages would be so much easier. She had Eve convey the Hatching to Tydus who would hopefully spread the word. Browns were generally reliable at least.
Kyrah was almost certain Kaiden was already there with Eve so all she had to do was get some meat. “Now for the hard part.” She took off from the area of the sands, Eve had claimed for her clutch at a full out sprint. The young woman was fast but it would still be several minutes before she would reach the kitchens. Fresh meat would be best but hungry flitters would eat almost anything. Why hadn't Eve given her more warning?
She arrived at the kitchens slightly out of breath and asked for meat for the firelizards. The platter was large and instead of making her carry it herself some of the drudges offered to bring the meat if they could watch. Kyrah would have agreed to nearly anything to not have to carry the meat on her own. She did hope the Headwoman made it. The Weyrwoman had impressed upon her the need for the Headwoman to have a firelizard and Kyrah quite agreed that it was necessary for Weyr communication at this point.
When they finally made it back to the Grounds about thirty minutes had passed. She had the drudges set the covered platter far enough away that the little ones would have to go through the people to get at it. Eve was crooning to them as the shells began to move a little at a time. The Gold Egg moving the most violently.

The commotion of the Dragon Shield’s Kyrah coming through the kitchens for meat caught Prontin’s attention. Even though she was seated near the kitchen doors she found herself standing and leaning closer along the wall in hopes of understanding what was going on as drudges moved past her hurriedly and the smell of fresh meat wafted through the air. Finding the arm of a drudge walking past was never an easy feat, but the attempt caught the attention she sought long enough to ask the question plaguing her mind.
“What is all the commotion about?” she asked to the face she would never see.
“Kyrah’s gold flit has a clutch on the sands that are hatching. She said if we carry the meat for her we could watch them hatch and impress.” The voice was a young female’s and while Prontin could not place it at that moment she could hear the excitement in the other drudge’s voice.
“May I hold your shoulder and follow you? I would like to have the experience.” Prontin knew no matter how politely she spoke the words the reaction would always be the same, a look of surprise, confusion and doubt would fall upon the persons face and she would hear it in their voice. The answer, however, sometimes varied and she was glad to hear the young woman accept the responsibility.
Putting her hand on the woman’s shoulder, the blind harper followed the woman into the sun and into the darkness again. With the darkness came warmth beneath her feet and she knew she was within the hatching sands. Keeping her breath in check, her senses stretched out to catch as much as she could and her ears strained to pick up any movement and speech that might give clues to the sight she could not see.

As people began to filter into the Sands. Eve began to croon lovingly to the now vigorously shaking eggs. The largest of them all began to show cracks along the egg shell. Kyrah had purposefully placed Emera nearest to the Queen Egg. The woman need a firelizard and not just any firelizard would do. From the Betwitching Egg, a small muzzle was seen first. She had to be the first one to hatch! She was glorious and deserved to be in whatever order she wanted! After breaking through her shelled imprisonment she scanned the area about her, pieces of shell sticking to her wings. While most of them were transfixed on her and sending her all the emotions she deserved only one was wise enough to put down the food that she was seeking. Moving toward the Headwoman for the meat and the promise of more meat, she felt the emotions coming from Emera and let out a sweet little croon in return. The firelizard let the woman know through her emotional connection that more food was needed to sate her appetite. The second to hatch was not about to be outdone by his Golden sister. Oh who was he kidding? She was amazing and he was a little nervous about all these large two legged things in the way of him getting food. He was also concerned the others would start Hatching and try to eat him. So he went towards the nearest food he could find, which happened to be in the hands of J'zen. In his vigor to eat, the firelizard may have taken a nibble out of the boy's hand. Unintentionally of course. The blue immediately demanded more food vocally by mewing, followed by nipping the youth's nearest body part. The Creeping Vine green hatched next and found a partner among one of the drudges who had brought the meat for them. She seemed surprised and happy to have a pet for herself. Then there was a rustling inside the shells of another egg which revealed another green though her face had a dark coloring in the shape of a mask. Following her was a blue who had a light blue gray coloring with lighter whisps throughout his body. Then everyone was drawn to the noise coming from one of the larger eggs. It was making quite the racket actually as the brown pushed himself through the tough shell. The others of his clutch mattered little to him compared to the smell of food. As he emerged one could see that he was strong and sturdy in appearance. Shortly after breaking free from all the shelling he made a bee-line for one person in particular. Phaerie had food and her energy was exactly what he wanted. Crooning in-between gulps the brown was obviously content to be eating. As soon as his supply stopped he started making it known that he was STARVING!

As Kyrah and the drudges left the kitchen, another one scurried out to find Emera. The Headwoman always liked to know when hatchings were going on, even if it was just a flitter hatching. She enjoyed watching them, even if she had seen them dozens of times before. Just watching the young people bond with their new flitter or dragon was always nice.
The Headwoman was easily found in her quarters, working on some knitting project she had started during her free time. The soft knock at her door pulled her out of her knitting and she answered the door, one gray eyebrow arching slightly at the nervous drudge that stood there. “Next time knock louder girl, my hearing is only good when someone is being a trouble maker.” The drudge giggled shrilly, clearly still nervous as she informed Emera of the hatching going on. The older woman thought about it for a moment before she told the young woman to go join the hatching as well, the kitchens would be fine for a few hours without a handful of young men and women.
The older woman made her way to the Hatching sands, taking a quick look around to make sure that was goofing off and that there was enough food for the little critters before she went to Kyrah, greeting the young woman and letting herself be moved around to stand in front of the largest egg in the clutch.
The Bewitching Egg was the first to start hatching and Emera made sure that she had food for the small queen. Though she had been to numerous hatchings before, not since she had been a young girl trying to Impress a dragon had she actually tried to bond with one of the creatures. It made her feel a bit giddy though she tried to hide it, only allowing herself to smile as the lovely gold broke free from her shell. Emera held out the meat and soon the gold was coming towards her, nabbing the morsel from her hand. Though the bond forming between them, the Headwoman could feel the hunger of the gold and gave her more meat. Thankfully the gold was one that had the smarts and dignity to not try and eat too much at once.
As the flitter ate her fill, Emera lightly stroked the top of her head down her long graceful neck. She brainstormed names, speaking to the gold like a rider spoke to their dragon. The fire lizard couldn’t answer her with words but it was easy to tell if she liked the names or not. Obvious ones like ‘Beauty’ and ‘Queenie’ made the gold mentally cringe. The name Orlai brought out a much more positive reaction, the gold almost purred with delight at that name. Emera chuckled a little at the reaction and carefully picked up the flitt once she had gotten her fill of food. “Eve’s first gold daughter has decided that she wants to be called Orlai. Hopefully the mother approves. Of course if she doesn’t I don’t think that’ll change anything.”
(thank you for the nice birthday present!)

As the Brown rushed to the greenrider, the blue peered out of his shell, uncertain. As he escaped from the Frankenstein's Monster Egg he took few steps and then shook the rest of the shell off of him before heading to the nearest food source. This person just so happened to be the Wingleader, A'lez. While he gobbled down every morsel presented him he was a fastidious eater. He cleaned himself right after eating then looked up at the man with his loving little eyes. He wanted to be snuggled and pronto! The next to hatch, a lovely sage green colored firelizard emerged slowly out of the Spinner's web egg. She was quick to look around at the people, sense their emotions and the food they were holding. Like her other clutch-mates it did not take her long to find someone to give her the food she wanted. Poor Osaris had no idea what she was in store for as the seemingly sweet green began munching happily down on the meat provided. Oh she had been hungry! As her belly began to fill, she felt her eyelids drooping. That was until another little grean made a moaning sound. She was delicate looking and seemed to glide rather than walk away from the remnants of the Whispy Geist shell. She found someone to feed her soon enough. It was only after she was eating that the next egg hatched or shall we say shattered. The Bloody Vampire Egg burst sending the shell pieces flying out in several directions. The Bronze firelizard wasted no time at all and came to the nearest hand he could reach. This hand just so happened to be Z'ech's. Nuzzling his way to the meat, he found himself quickly covered in meat himself. The Bronze was a sloppy little eater and did nothing to fix that as he demanded both vocally and mentally for more food. He was after all ravenous enough to eat two-leggeds. The last but not the least to Hatch was the smallest of the bunch. The Trick or Treat Egg revealed a small green. She had taken her sweet little time in pulling the shelling off of her body. And it seemed she was doing so deliberately. The show she was putting on captivated many but only one person would make her even more interesting to these who watched her. She approached the healing Weyrbrat with care so as not to trip over herself. Then sitting herself right down in front of Irinn she began to eat, as slowly and deliberately as before.

Honestly, Phaerie had attended the hatching only because she wanted to see the sweet little flits. The last time there had been a firelizard clutch, she had not managed to entice one to bond to her, and it sort of rankled her to find a blue had taken a liking to Kold—err, rather, K’dyn. Yet, he seemed a tempestuous little bugger, which seemed to fit the high and mighty holder’s son. With a snort and a discreet roll of her eyes, the greenweyrling stepped into the hatching caverns, a smile on her face as she nodded to the gold’s human. Kyrah, wasn’t it? A Shield?
Watching as the adorable little eggs slowly began to hatch, her grey eyes widened when a queen was the first to break shell. She was a beautiful creature, and for a moment, the girl wished that she would find her to be a suitable partner, but she passed her in favor of the headwoman.
But PhaerieMine, you have me. Is that not enough? Her green suddenly interjected, and the trader blanched.
Of course, Freya. She replied tenderly, soothing the dragon’s emotions. I just want a pet for both of us. It would be cute, don’t you think? When Freyath agreed, Phaerie grinned, holding her meat enticingly towards the new babies. A blue was the next out, and he quickly found a partner in J’zen. Smiling at the other Northerner, the girl’s attention was drawn back to the clutch as one of the larger eggs hatched, revealing an orange-hued brown that…that came right for her. As he ravenously began to tear into the meat she held, Phaerie grinned hugely, running her free hand down his back. Freya! We have a brown! The girl said excitedly, blinking as her flit demanded more food. “Right. Sorry love.” She said quickly, grabbing more meat for him. Watching as he ate, the greenweyrling tried to think of a suitable name. Finally, she nodded. “Duke.” She decided by way of his strong and noble build.

J'zen had been drug along to the hatching of the flit eggs quite against his will. Tyreth and Sabastian were enough, but the excitement of his fellow weyrlings had some how caused them to think his, "No, unhand me this instant!" meant, "Sure, drag me to the hatching grounds." When he was finally released by the burlier boy, J'zen made to leave only to have a drudge forcefully shove some disgusting raw meat into his hands. J'zen hadn't even touched the bloody stuff when his beloved Tyreth Hatched, and they expected him to endure it for some unwanted lizard?
Fed up with the whole proceeding, J'zen was about to throw the filthy red meat away from himself and go cleanse his hands when he was bodily accosted by a dark Blue fire-lizard. The big Blue snapped the meat up and just barely managed to leave J'zen his fingers. Then the little creature had the gall to demand more.
"All right you glutton, I'll feed you."
Thus said, J'zen snatched another handful of meat from a passing drudge - only slightly wincing at the way it squished slippery like in his hand - and shoved it in the Blue's all to obliging mouth. He repeated the process many times before the little thing finally succumbed to slumber.
Although he acted entirely put out by his imprinting the pet, J'zen was seen to be tenderly stroking the Blue's head with his clean hand as he departed the group of the other Imprinters.
"I believe you need a proper name, little one. How does Vestuchi sound to you? Sabastian, Tyreth, and now you... I am surrounded by Blues. What does that say about my character, I wonder."
Vestuchi (Vest-oo-chee)

Irinn had been wondering about the Weyr thinking about what to do. The nightmare of the feline attack some months before still was in her mind. Since then she'd been sure to avoid the forests around the Weyr. She never went further than necessary, and always told her father's dragon. On the off chance of another attack, which she feared would happen.
She suddenly saw the Dragon Shield Guard, Kyrah, run from the Hatching Sands and to the Kitchens. What was going on? Something exciting from the look on the older woman's face, from the glimpse that Irinn had gotten. She was running to the kitchens, though she felt a bit out of breath. She'd been having that problem since the feline attack. She looked up to see Kyrah leaving the Kitchens for the hatching sands. She decided to follow to see what was going on.
She entered the sands and spotted the small clutch on the sands. Eve's clutch! And if her eyes didn't deceive her, the clutch was hatching! She walked up beside Kyrah. She gently touched the older woman's hand and smiled up at her. She still remembered the woman had promised her one of Eve's eggs from this clutch. Well, she hoped this clutch! And then, they hatched. She gasped at the hatching of the baby Queen, feeling a finger of jealousy run up and then down her spine when the baby Queen obviously had bonded to the Headwoman.
Irinn turned away and watched as the rest of the eggs hatched. And it was down to the last egg, the Trick or Treat Egg. Irinn couldn't tear her gaze away from the Egg as it hatched. She stifled a giggle behind her hand at how the little green was taking her sweet time in getting the pieces of her shell off of her hide. And then her breath hitched in her throat as the little green made her way to Irinn. Was the little green hers? She looked down at the little green and then back to Kyrah. What should she do? She's never had a firelizard before. "Kyrah, what do I do?" the young girl asked the Dragon Shield Guard, fear and uncertainty making her voice thicken.
[the green's name is going to be Sassifras, once Irinn experiences more of the green's personality]

((sorry for the short post. ))
Kyrah looked over at little Irinn as she asked the question. "For now, she'll feed then she'll be tired. Come find me in a few sevendays, we can start training her." The red head did not add, so that she won't be a nuisance which many people felt that firelizards were. Eve, her own firelizard was well enough behaved to earn them a better reputation especially flits with Gold and Bronze coloring. It would not do to try and train the firelizard now though. They had no attention span the first couple of weeks. After that unfortunately she was on a mission so she would not be around to help Irinn for some time after that.
