The sun was beginning to set and the young man standing outside the Weyrling Barracks was lighting the last of the glows around the area he had labeled party central. Or'yn could not take entire credit for the idea of tonight. He had been invaluable in setting up the outside of the Barracks and sneaking in an assortment of foods and drinks, including some mediocre tasting wine. Something that no one would notice was missing.
He had been talking to his sister about wanting a break from all the work and the studying and living up to the demands of society when the idea had come to him. He passed along the idea so that other people would help with getting things ready. Now the Weyrlings were going to host their own start of the Turn party. Celebrating their first Turn (err 7 months) with their life mates and also celebrating the fact that they had made it through lessons thus far.
While he didn't expect everyone to attend, he was rather hoping a couple of the Harper types showed up. He could then coerce said Harper types in his charming manner to play some songs. He'd really like to hear some bawdy, loud, drinking genre songs though he rather doubted they were in the typical Harper's arsenal of songs. Well perhaps he would sing one anyway, no matter how much people protested.
Looking over the last few things to make sure things were in order, he smiled. This was going to be totally awesome! I don't know if it makes any difference to you two legged ones but I will be sleeping. Oh come on RATH!!! You can stay awake a while longer. Enjoy the company of the others of your clutch. Aren't you the one that tells me to make nice with everyone. No. I believe you are the one who is always saying such things. Well it can't hurt you to make friends. Later in life when you want company no one will be there for you but me and you will be lonely for someone to chat to who understands your misguided draconic logic. You really are irritating for one so small. Shouldn't you brush your hair and maybe wear clothes that ...go? My hair looks fine...and you think this doesn't go? Or'yn looked down at his slightly torn khakis and well pressed collared button down white shirt. Not the colors. Your pants are torn but your shirt is nice. You need to wear another pair of pants. Can't. I outgrew them all. Mom is trying to get her hands on a couple casual wear pants, like I would potentially use for this event. Thank goodness dragonriders wear leathers, or we'd have a hard time getting me into what you consider clothes that go.
With that said he decided to go and test some of that wine and wait for others to join him.

B’ren looked over his three younger foster siblings, stroking his chin slowly. The youngest one, his sister Bala was practically bouncing up and down. “Welllll I guess you three can help me out if you really want to. It would be kind of a pain to get that much stuff out of the kitchens by myself. And well I guess if we do this fast enough Zeuth will be so over joyed to have me back that he’ll give you guys a ride tomorrow.”
He heard a combination of sounds, both audio and mental ones. Bala shrieked with joy at the idea of being able to ride the bronze dragon. The other two were just as excited but showed a little more restraint, high fiving each other instead and whispering excitedly. Zeuth was less happy with this idea. I’m not doing it. Oh come on. All three of them put together weight about as much as I do so it’s not like they’ll be too heavy for you. And you can’t hear just how excited they are. I’m sure they’d do my bidding just for the chance to pet you, but promising them a ride means they’ll keep quiet about this too. Zeuth let out an annoyed snort. The bronze didn’t think the party sounded interesting either and grumbled about the ‘foolish waste of time.’ Well if you really don’t want me to have the chance to try and be friendly with that gold rider I guess we don’t have to do this at all…
B’ren could almost see the calculating look in his dragons eyes. He knew he had his dragon, hook, line, and sinker with the promise of trying to get to know Essa a little better. Of course he didn’t even know if the Northerner would show up. …fine if it means you’ll actually try to talk to her. And not just a hello either. We need to start making a good impression on her now if we ever wish to gain rank. B’ren let out a little snort, upping his future rank was not the only reason he was curious about Essa. Everyone had said that the gold rider was nice and well, she was quite a nice looking girl. And B’ren did love the ladies.
Turning his attention back to his foster siblings, B’ren quickly directed them to go into the kitchen and snag as much food as they could. He whistled as he waited for them, and was happy as they came out one by one. Bala made him the proudest, she had managed to snag two plates of bubbly pies. The other two hadn’t gotten anything nearly a good but they were able to care more then his youngest sister. He quickly herded them through the halls, taking them though a longer but lesser used route until he made it to the weyrling barracks. He took a quick look around before he opened the door and ushered the three in. He gave Or’yn a little wave before he helped his siblings put the food out before shoo’ing them away.
With his siblings gone, B’ren noticed just how quiet their party was so far. He frowned a little before grabbing a glass of wine for himself. “Sooo other people do know about this right? Because I like you Or’yn, you’re pretty cool for only coming up to my knee, but I was hoping there would be some others here. Females mostly. It’s hard to have a good party without some girls around to have fun with.”

A slight pleasure built in him seeing the younger kids bring in more stuff for the party. B'ren was a good person for him to be friends with. While Rath saw Zeuth as competition, Or'yn saw B'ren only as a fellow classmate and potential friend. There was no need for him to be interested in women just yet (not that he didn't find them attractive) and he had no interest at all in rank. At least the two Bronzeriders of the clutch were there. The others would be filing in soon. Of this he had no doubt.
He smiled, “Oh yeah. You're a fairly cool guy yourself. The word was definitely spread around. They'll be here before you know it. You should know, women are never on time.” Unless it was something very important. His mother had made certain he knew this before going out into the world because she was a prime example of a woman never on time. He was sure Aisynn would come and she had assured him that some of the girls were definitely coming. “Who cares if the other guys show up.” He smiled again, thinking about how he and B'ren could potentially be surrounded by beautiful young women.
Everything would be as it should be. “Rath is not as enthused about the party as I am. Hopefully he'll find someone with which to chat. He's going on about how he wants to sleep.” Stubborn dragon. It would do them both good if he would attempt to make some friends. The dragon would want to sun with some of the others later on in life and he would not know them. Better he became social now so interactions would be better for him later.
Vaylee was as per usual taking a long time to get ready. Her hair was done, she had changed dresses at least five times and was now looking at what shoes to wear. The dress was a light almost sky blue, off the shoulder, asymmetrical. She wore a golden chained necklace with a light blue stone at the end of it. Her foster father always brought her and her foster mother jewelry and her foster mother was a weaver. She had everything a girl could need, jewels and dresses. Well, almost everything. The shoe issue was causing her some trouble. By the time she had chosen to settle with the first pair she had tried on Cupith was practically pushing her out of the barracks.
You need to be there before the other girls. Who cares when the other girls are getting there. I can dance with anyone I want. We shall see. What was that supposed to mean? She wondered and then decided not to dwell on it.
Having had about enough of her green's mood, she walked out of the Barracks where the party was being held. Or'yn and B'ren were both there but no one else had arrived just yet. “Good evening, B'ren, Or'yn. How is everything coming along?” She could see as she approached the tables set up that there was a good amount of food and drink. There was plenty for everyone. Seemed they were simply waiting for other people to show up.

B’ren liked Or’yn. He was a nice kid and still had a good head on his shoulders. Best of all, he was young and since him and Or’yn were the only two bronze riders of their clutch, it gave B’ren a better chance with the women. Outside of the flights at least. Zeuth also liked Or’yn, he flirted and goofed off less then B’ren did. But the dragon also thought it was good for both bronze riders to show a united front, while sooner or later they might be competing against one another, their ability to get along and not bicker and squabble with each other (unlike some of those other riders) proved that the dragons had picked the right boys.
“Oh Or’yn, don’t say I’m fairly cool. The two of us? We gotta be the coolest guys here. And I mean in the Weyr, not just this room. Verrrry smart too. I had temperarly forgotten just how long it can take some women to get all fancied up.” Normally it had been B’ren taking his time to make himself look good. It took a lot of hard work and time to pull off looking so perfect! The kid was also right about not needing all the other guys there, sure having a couple of them wouldn’t be so bad but if none of them decided to show up, B’ren wouldn’t be too heartbroken.
B’ren snorted back a little laugh and glanced in the direction of where he knew his own dragon was laying. “Oh Zeuth isn’t any happier. To make sure my siblings didn’t run back to the kitchens and blab about the party I promised they could all get a ride from Zeuth. I only got him to stop his whining and agree to it by promising that I would talk to Essa if she showed up. Rath and Zeuth can both complain about how silly we are. Then they can try to compare us to see which one of us is worse.”
B’ren sipped his wine, eyeing the food a bit. He was tempted to start munching on things a bit but decided to wait until a few more people had shown up. When Vaylee walked in he was glad that he had passed on the food. He went to the blond, taking her hand and dramatically kissing the back of it. “Ah if it isn’t the most beautiful girl in the whole Weyr. Only one other woman is anywhere near as lovely as you and that’s your sister. Even the Weyrwoman is jealous of how radiant you are.” He avoid using her name, not yet sure just which of the twins this was. He had known the girls for a looong time so hopefully her reaction to him would give him a hint as to which twin he was flirting with. If not… well it wasn’t the first time he had called them by the wrong name.
