Though she’s in her mid forty’s, Jahzia can still put the younger women to shame. She’s spends quite a bit of time making herself look good and takes pride in her looks. Without her looks she knows she wouldn’t be in her current position.
Her black hair is kept long. Most of the time she lets it just fall freely around her shoulders though once in a while she pulls it back, mostly for special occasions.
Being the lady of a major hold, Jahzia is always dressed in the best. She normally wears dresses that flatter her figure but if she's going out to work on her plants or going riding, she wears something more suitable.
Personality: The people of Brita all praise the kindness and generosity of Lady Jahzia. She often spends time trying to assist her people; helping out the poor, making sure there are good places for all children to take their lessons in, donations to the craft halls. She brought in soldiers and has made sure that some of Brita’s youth are being trained as well to help protect the roads of Brita from bandits and anyone else that wishes to bring distress to her people.
Everyone knows that Jahzia believes strongly in family ties. When the heir to Brita, her lord husbands elder brother, died she went out of her way to make sure his wife and family were able to stay within Brita Hold and have a comfortable life. Her niece and nephews are like children to her, having grown up alongside her own sons and daughters. She’s even gone out of her way to try and arrange good marriages for them, wanting them to have just as bright a future as her own children.
Jahzia is a very quick and sharp woman. She was privileged to get a very good education since she was the child of a minor holder and especially since she was a girl. She was always a quick leaner though, picking up everything from history, to mathematics, and even the more physical activates like riding a runner. She had a hunger for knowledge that seemed to have no limit.
Hobbies/Skills: Jahzia is one of those people with a natural green thumb. She has her own private garden that she cares for with a green house to grow some more exotic flowers, many are used by the holds healers. She's also a skilled rider, not the best but she's not going to fall off a horse.
Pets: No pets. She has a runner but she doesn’t think of it as a pet.
History: Jahzia’s parents were the lord and lady of a minor hold. Next to Brita it was the largest hold in the region but her family was still stuck with the minor holders title. Jahzia was the second child born to her parents, her brother Lazhern was the first. Her parents had once had high hopes for Lazhern, a marriage between him and Brita’s eldest daughter would bring more respect to Jahzia’s family and with a little ill luck for the Brita family could even see Lazhern’s family inherit the major hold.
There hopes were soon dashed though, as they realized for a young age that Lazhern was a ‘special’ child, one that would never amount to much for the family. While there were ideas of having an accident befall young Lazhern to spare the family any embarrassment he might cause them, it was decided that they would instead blame the midwife for his feeble mindedness and use him to make their family seem more humble in the eyes of the commoners.
Her parents went back to scheming, wondering how else they could get themselves ahead at the expense of one of their children.
Jahzia was soon the chosen child. From a young age she was a beautiful girl, and better yet she was smart. She would often sit in on her brother’s lessons as he tried to learn basic things. Her father watched her as she sat in on a simple math lesson for her brother, doing things like one plus one. She was still too young to go to school herself but the tutor soon found himself teaching Jahzia more then Lazhern as she demanded more things from him while her simple minded brother was stuck at one plus one.
The best tutors were soon hired to teach Jahzia everything she would need to know. One came in to teach her how to be a proper lady, one came in from the Harper Hall to teach her music, one came in from the Healer Hall so she would be able to help the sick, more were brought in to fill out her education with numbers, history, herbology and anything else her parents felt would be useful to her. She was eager to learn it all, working hard to take all the new knowledge in and be the best student.
Jahzia’s parents finally got the chance they had been looking for when the current lord and lady of Brita invited the family to be personal guests for the upcoming summer festival. The eldest son of the Brita family already had a marriage arrangement but the second son was still open. A great deal of time and money was spent to make sure that Jahzia would be perfect and when it came time for the festival, Jahzia didn’t disappoint her parents. She was pretty, charming, humble, smart and friendly with everyone. She impressed the Lord and Lady of Brita, as well as their son Garnog. Over the next few months Jahzia and her mother were both invited back to Brita, the adults doing their own thing and letting Garnog and Jahzia get to know each other better. Within a turn the mothers had made arrangements for Garnog and Jahzia to be married.
Jahzia instantly took to being one of Birta’s ladies. She became close friends with her sister-in-law Vedia and soon the two were as close as if they had been blood sisters. The fact that their husbands were close as brothers was good as well, the four of them often doing things together. Jahzia was there for Vedia when she had her children and for when her first child and only son Gridjin died in the crib. And Vedia was there for Jahzia when she had her own children.
The control of Brita was given to Vedia’s husband as the elder Lord and Lady both grew old and often fell into ill health. The two moved to Ista where the weather was better for them and where they were welcomed by their friends. Within two turns the elderly couple had died of old age, and while Brita was sad and mourned for their former lord and lady, the new Lord Grisek and Lady Vedia were very popular and well loved.
But the good things couldn’t last. Shortly after the birth of their third child, Lord Grisek grew ill. The healers did all they could for them but the man wasted away until death finally took him. Birta was devastated by the loss of their Lord, and Jahzia did everything she could for her friend. She helped arrange for the funeral for the Lord Grisek, helped cared for Vedia’s two daughters, and made sure that no one tried to move Vedia from the rooms reserved for the Lord and Lady of the hold, which was now Jahzia and her husband since Vedia and Grisek had no male heirs.
Garnog and Jahzia quickly took over the role of leaders of Brita, but they would often honor Grisek and make sure that the people saw how comfortable Vedia was, using the love the people had had for Grisek and Vedia to help their own images. Brita was soon just as much in love with their new lord and lady. While once in a while minor lords would try to start problems, they never lasted long and they people never remembered who they were for long.
When Telgar and High Reaches started complaining of dust storms and that it was a sign of impeding Thread Fall, Brita scoffed at the idea. Garnog denounced the two Holds, calming that they were just trying to find a reason to bring back any dragon riders they could find and conquer the rest of Pern. Brita made allies with some of the other Holds, protesting the idea of trying to find out if the dragons riders that had been sent to the South still lived.
As the threat of civil war threatens Pern, Jahzia had been leaving Brita more often for travels. Many of her travels have taken her to holds of her allies some of them have taken her to the neutral holds and even to Igen and Keroon.
