The night was still and dark as the twin moons cast a silvery glow over Refuge, painting with the weyr with a sheen of luminescence. The stone shone brightly under the soft light, while the bowl was washed in a pool of shimmering radiance. It was a beautiful night, but hardly seen, for all of Refuge were either asleep or…otherwise occupied. It was in this late hour that queen Aeriath stirred, her tail beginning to twitch restlessly while she slowly wakened. Grumbling softly, the gold moved slightly on her couch and cuddled against her bronze, irritated that she was missing out on some vital sleep. As egg-heavy as she was, the queen needed every bit of rest she could garner. Snorting softly, Aeriath laid her head against Zorometh, her eyes slowly closing as she tried to find slumber.
But when Mother Nature calls, honey, she’s got a megaphone.
Eyes snapping open, the gold straightened quickly on her couch, kneading her claws against the stone. She only had to wait a moment before another shudder rippled through her body, and Aeriath bolted to her feet, scrambling to her ledge as quickly as her increased bulk would allow. Dropping from her weyr, the queen glided to the hatching sands, eyes whirling faster and faster.
RaelMine. I clutch. Her rider, she bespoke first, and then right after, Zorometh. It is time. Scratching around until she was pleased with her spot, the queen settled her immense bulk, sighing in relief. Finally, after a few more candlemarks, her beautiful eggs would be on the sands. Closing her eyes, Aeriath hummed softly, ready to bring her children forth.
As soon as the call echoed through her mind, the Weyrwoman scrambled out of bed, almost falling right on her butt as she did. At last! They would have another clutch on the sands. Grabbing some fresh clothing, the goldrider threw on the first things her hands touched, which happened to be a tank top and skirt. Without even bothering with her hair, Raelwyn grabbed her sandals on the way out, flying down the steps barefooted. Yes, the sands would be hot, but she planned on sitting on the stands while waiting for her queen to finish. Oh! Did D’seus know, did Zorometh?
I have…told my bronze. Aeriath supplied, growling gently as another shudder danced down her spine.
The Weyrwoman smiled tenderly. Thank you sweet. Now just take it easy, my love, and rest when you can. Entering the sands, she was greeted by a soft call from her queen. Raelwyn took her place at the bottom of the stands, content to stay there until Aeriath was done. Candlemarks? She didn’t care. The woman would stay with her dragon. Rael had a feeling that she would be seeing D’seus any moment, though, and so glanced toward the cavernous entrance, waiting for her Weyrleader. Their time together was as brief as it had ever been, despite the fact he now commanded Refuge at her side. His increased duties were to thank for that. Perhaps now, they would have a moment to speak personally, rather than as Weyrwoman and Weyrleader.
Two eggs already rested on the sands, and it looked as if a third was on it’s way. And Aeriath still had plenty to go.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity to both dragon and rider, a stunning, perfect clutch of thirty-five eggs rested on the sands, more than Refuge had seen in turns. Not only that, but near Aeriath’s front paws rested a large, shining egg the color of gold. A queen egg.
Blinking tear-filled eyes, Raelwyn had never been more proud of her beloved Ari than she was in that moment. Oh love, they are beautiful. And a queen egg! You should be proud, as should Zorometh. Humming with contentment, the gold silently agreed, sleepy and satisfied. After popping out thirty-five eggs, she was certainly entitled to some well-earned rest. With that, Aeriath settled down, and slept.
The Songs of Olde Clutch
The Enchanting Great Queen Egg - Large and beautiful, this queen egg is a stunning shade of gold. The egg itself is of a slightly darker hue than it’s sunny-colored mother, but it still holds that same iridescent sheen as Aeriath. The bottom is a darker shade, and as it travels upward, the color slowly fades until there is a spot of white-gold at the tip of the shell. Upon approaching, you can feel this egg weighing you, as if she is judging if you are worthy or not. If you still have the courage to draw near, the Enchanting Great Queen Egg exudes power, a sense of royalty, and confidence.
The Law of War Egg – With a muted appearance, this egg could almost be overlooked. A light, nearly white-grey is the background for this shell, with some darker blues and greys circling the egg in soft swipes. However, what it lacks in beauty, the Law of War Eggmakes up for in presence. Perceptiveness and daring constantly surround this egg in a strong manner, easily felt by all who approach.
The Earth and Sky Egg – Beautiful, soft, and colorful, this egg makes everyone feel comfortable. On the bottom, a dark, forest green washes across the shell, then fades slowly into a bright emerald towards the middle. From that, a pale, lovely blue sweeps upward, to finally change to bright yellow at the top of the egg. The Earth and Sky Egg feels reasonable and sweet.
The Dancing Cat Egg – In an attribute shared with only three of it’s clutchmates, the Dancing Cat Egg holds such a name for good reason. A golden brown surface paints the shell in one continuous shade, with very little variation to speak of. The truly fascinating aspect of this egg is the noticeable depiction of a feline in mid-jump. This egg exudes a need to protect and a love of all life.
The Bloody War Egg – One of the darkest eggs, the Bloody War Egg appears dangerous. Black makes up the greater part of the coloring, dominant on the bottom and top while a dark grey band stretches across the middle. Deep, blood-red splatters can be found throughout the shell in a macabre pattern. Pulsing with courage and masculinity, this one leaves little to the imagination.
The Lightening King Egg – An unusual design, this egg is of mostly a muted shade, dark and light greys swirling about the shell like thunderclouds. However, streaked through the cloudy patterns are thin veins of bright yellow, threading in and out of the hazy greys like lightening. An aura of valor and a strong will constantly surround the Lightening King Egg.
The Dead Soul Egg – Black as coal, this egg boasts the darkest and most malignant appearance in the entire clutch. The Dead Soul Egg is the same, shadowy pitch from top to bottom, only broken by a strip of white-gold that circles the entire shell in the very center. In contrast to it’s wicked appearance, this egg feels just and mild.
The Winter Hunt Egg – Wild and beautiful, the Winter Hunt Egg makes one feel untamed. A light, grayish-blue covers the egg completely, with many patches of pale silver and white sprinkling the shell with soft, fuzzy spots. Under the covering marks, dark shapes can be seen, reminding one forcibly of large canines. This egg feels free and feral.
The Northern Father Egg – A beautiful shell makes this egg stand out, almost as much as the Sovereign Sun Egg. Predominantly white, the Northern Father Egg almost glitters in the light. A sprinkling of gold and blue can be found within the gleaming shell, easily visible from a great distance. Approaching this egg, one feels wisdom and triumph.
The Silent Nature Egg – A soft, forest green wraps this egg in a sense of calm. Patches of emerald and a light, fresh green dot the shell of the Silent Nature Egg in a myriad of mottled spots. The aura of this egg is tranquil and peaceful.
The Relentless Destruction Egg – The very shell of this egg is almost frightening to look upon. A darkened top of murky greys and muted blues swirl chaotically above a black foundation. Streaks of red and yellow dance across the upper half, and there are small, spider web lines of white running throughout, giving it the appearance of breaking apart. The Relentless Destruction Egg seethes with reckless abandon and utter pandemonium.
The Gentle Healing Egg – One might call this egg boring if they did not take a second look. At first glance it appears to be mottled white, but upon closer inspection The Gentle Healing Egg is quite beautiful. The shell itself is actually a pale, pale blue, with alternating rings of grey and cerulean circling it. Small spots of light gold can be seen near the bottom of the egg. It is alluring and composed.
The Wise Warrior Egg – As far as appearances go, there is nothing special about this egg. A light tan covers the expanse of the surface, suffused with small swirls of soft blue. The Wise Warrior Egg would be quickly passed by if not for the mighty aura that surrounds it. Valiant and Wise, the dragonet from this egg is sure to be a strong personality.
The Mighty Sea Egg – True to it’s name, this egg reminds one forcibly of a vast ocean. A myriad of blues and greens toss and dance around the shell, white flecks dusting the edges occasionally. Beautiful and strange, the Mighty Sea Egg is one of the more literal appearances. The aura of this egg is tempestuous and strong.
The Sovereign Sun Egg – This egg is one of the brightest in the clutch, standing out quite a bit against the others that surround it. Almost mistaken for a queen egg, the The Sovereign Sun Egg is also of a buttery-yellow hue, splashed here and there haphazardly with patches of bright, burning gold all over. A small dusting of white-gold can be faintly seen throughout the surface of the shell as well. This egg pulses with self-assurance and calm.
The Beyond Death Egg – From the name, one would expect this egg to be dark and bleak. However, much to the contrary, it is bright and inviting. A pale yellow of shimmering quality serves as the base color, with patches of blue and silvery-white splashed about. The Beyond Death Egg makes one think there is more to dying than just ending. It pulses with ease and comfort.
The Witching Prophecy Egg – A darkly-colored shell gives this egg an overall brooding appearance. With a velvety, midnight blue base, the Witching Prophecy Egg would be boring if not for the little details. A sunny yellow is sprinkled across the shell almost like stars, and purples and brighter blues are lightly brushed in soft sweeps. This egg exudes an enigmatic presence with a strong streak of promised retribution.
The Serene Horse Egg – One of the few eggs to actually bear a depiction upon it, the Serene Horse Egg has an apt appearance to fit it’s name. A rich, grassy green covers the shell completely, mottled with darker and lighter hues sporadically. Upon closer inspection, one can make out the outline of a galloping runner if you look hard enough. This egg thrums with nurturing care and friendliness.
The Thunderous Sky Egg – Twisting with dark blues and muted greys, the Thunderous Sky Egg reminds one of the heavens in the middle of a storm. Lighter patches of grey with soft edges dot the surface, and one can almost hear thunder as they gaze at the shell. Pulsing with strength and bravery, it is a powerful egg.
The Healing Peace Egg – A mild shade of cerulean alternates with a dark, royal blue to continually ring this egg with broad horizontal stripes. A few thin, thread-like lines of silver also circle the shell, creating a rather pleasant appearance. The aura of the Healing Peace Egg is also pleasing, humming with charm and serenity.
The Bitter Vengeance Egg – Stark and sharp, the colors on this egg are harsh and jagged against each other. From each tip, a rusty orange bleeds into a stark yellow, then finally ends with a strip of pale, white yellow ringing the center. A strong feeling of righteousness and cool aloofness surrounds the Bitter Vengeance Egg.
The Benign Creator Egg – A truly unique egg, the Benign Creator Egg explodes with color. In the center, a silvery-white band circles the shell once, then flows outward into a myriad of hues. In ever-changing rings, new colors spread from the center in more shades than one can count. Alongside it’s bright and merry shell, this egg is just as lively in feelings. Cheerful and generous, it is quite attractive.
The Sky Falcon Egg – The dominant color of this egg is blue, but it is anything but boring. A myriad of blue shades dance across the shell, swirling about each other in a constantly shifting and changing pattern. If you look closely enough, you can see the faint shadows of falcons among the vibrant blues of the Sky Falcon Egg. This egg exudes majesty and a strong sense of truth.
The Gentle Moon Egg – A muted, dove grey, this egg is true to it’s name. Everything appears indeed gentle, from the cloud-like patches of silvery white upon the shell to the curling wisps of darker grey at the bottom. Soft in appearance, the aura that surrounds the Gentle Moon Egg is a perfect match. Mild and serene, this egg is completely inviting.
The Passionate Love Egg – With an appearance as vivacious as it’s name, the Passionate Love Egg stands out among the clutch vividly. The shell is a bright, candy apple-red in color, almost seeming to glow in it’s brilliance. Rings of white swirl at graceful angles from the top to the bottom of the egg. As expected, feelings of ardor and vivacity are strong.
The Wicked Trickster Egg - Sharp, bright hues of red and orange dance across the surface of this egg, a riot of fiery colors streaking along the shell in a vivid burst of chaos. From the Morning Sun Egg, you sense honor and calm reason.
The Wind and Dawn Egg – This egg is quite lovely to look upon. The Wind and Dawn Egg also holds a light dusting of silver spots along the top. This egg hums with grace and kindness.
The Magic Mastery Egg – Orange, yellow, and purple ring this egg in deviating bands that circle fully about the shell. Beneath these bright hues, an inky blue and black swirl in a shifting pattern across the base of the Magic Mastery Egg. This egg is surrounded by feelings of loyalty and a sense of justice.
The Stormy Chaos Egg - Truly chaotic, the shell of this egg would almost make one dizzy to stare too long. Black on the bottom, the Stormy Chaos Egg slowly gains coloring around the center, with grey-blues and yellows dancing in vague patterns. Occasionally, purple also slashes throughout the strong hues. Emulating hectic emotions, it is hard to tell what this egg truly feels.
The Fiery Brimstone Egg – A deep tint of red envelopes this egg from top to bottom, a solid hue that does not shift in shade. Small, deviating lines of black ring the shell in full circumference, and there are patches of orange and yellow sporadically adorning it’s surface. From the Fiery Brimstone Egg, a sense of equilibrium and a formidable will are felt.
The Sweet Love Egg – One of the most unique eggs to be seen, the Sweet Love Egg is a distinctive collection of colors. A slightly darker pink is brushed about in small, uneven patches, as well as tiny sprinkles of white. This egg feels gentle and affectionate.
The Twisting Dreams Egg – Across the surface of this egg, there are shifting patterns of too many colors to name. A shimmering silver is the dominant hue of the shell, a gleam to it’s surface that is almost akin to a gold egg. Bright yellow and a glittering white thread through the silver in thin, delicate lines. The Great Hunt Egg is enveloped in a sense of warmth and purity.
The Wise Beauty Egg – This egg also holds some rather unique coloring. A pale, pale pink, barely a shade lighter than white, covers the shell from tip to tip. Vertical stripes of gold and grey make perfect lines all the way up and down. In contrast to the Wise Beauty Egg’s soft appearance, strong feelings of vigor and poise exude from it.
But when Mother Nature calls, honey, she’s got a megaphone.
