They are people who never existed in a place that doesn’t seem to want them around anymore. One known enemy was destroyed and an unknown one is taking its place. This time, the enemy isn’t something that can be fought against.
Pern is no longer welcoming to those that it has rejected.
The Vanished are destined to fail.
