Where to today G’off? Danuth asked as the boy put on his riding leathers. He had been moved out of the barracks due to the need for space for the newer Weyrlings but had yet to Graduate. Many in his class had been held back due to training gaps from changing Weyrling Masters. A few of them had still managed to join a wing but he wasn’t one of them. The youth was much happier to remain a Weyrling for now as it gave him more freedom to go where he wanted when he didn’t have lessons. Lets go to that waterfall we saw the other day. Its remote enough we won’t have to deal with all the noise and chatter of other people. It will be nice to relax and just be ourselves.[/b] No. Don’t bother him. I’m sure it will be easier for them without us around today. The dragon could have argued that Petroth and T’mar never said they were any trouble. The fact was it was easier for them to mingle with the others without G’off.
Since coming to the Weyr as a prisoner he was treated unfairly. Most people knew of his past and assumed the boy was a fighter. G’off was no good at fighting really. He was more the quick with his hands and feet type. He was a spy and a thief for the Holdless but he had never been a fighter. It did not matter that he had impressed a dragon. No one trusted him except for a few people in his Weyrling class. It was so nice for him to get away from the stares, the words whispered as he walked by. Now he could be simply G’off with his best friend Danuth.
He was not nervous about going into the jungle alone. He and been doing so for months now and he never even caught the slightest glimpse of a Holdless. Besides he was sure they had bigger plans than to worry about errant riders wandering the woods. He had been Holdless, he knew they patrolled but if he wasn’t in their normal patrol sweep he likely wouldn’t ever be caught. G’off mounted Danuth having already adjusted his straps for riding. Should we let Petroth know where we are going?
An afternoon of solitude was just what he needed to get himself in better spirits. The sun was shining brightly as they flew against the warm breeze. It was a beautiful day, a day which would only be getting better. It took no time at all for Danuth to Between above the waterfall. There was an open area of land just on the left bank of the waterfall’s pool. The blue circled closer and closer to the ground, prepared for an ordinary day of swimming and sun bathing. G’off vaulted off the dragon’s back and began to take the straps off so that the dragon would be comfortable.
