Not everyone thought the dragonriders' leap through time was brave and necessary. Some called it foolish, a careless disregard for the health and safety of dragonkind. Rather than follow their brethren on a fool's errand, they slipped away, disappearing out of time and memory. Settling deep in the Southern Continent, they established what would eventually become Azov Weyr, a secret kept from all of Pern. Now the Red Star winks again in the dawn sky, and the Azovians - keeping alive the traditions of their ancestors - prepare for the day when Thread returns and they reveal themselves to the rest of Pern. But things have changed over the four-and-a-half centuries of separation from the rest of the world, and the ways of the Azovians may yet be considered too libertine for the hidebound Pernese of the Northern Continent.
