What would you like to be called OOC? Sandy
Recruited by: Nobody

Character
Name:Jolende (joe-LEN-dee) Also called ‘Lendie’ by close family or friends.
Age:18
Gender:Female
Rank:Cotholder’s new wife
Sexual OrientationHetero
Family: Father, Laylor and Mother Emaldy. Jolende is the 7th of 11 children: 5 brothers (all older) and 5 sisters. The family worked a simple but prosperous farmcot.
Husband, Dother.
Cot workers, Garbur & Rusa
Appearance: Tall for a woman, 6’2”, long-limbed and big-jointed with long nimble fingers and big feet, Jolende has thankfully grown out of the awkwardness of such a long frame and can move with a surprising grace. She has a long neck and an oval face with high cheekbones, a nose she *may* fit eventually and full lips on a wide mouth. Complexion is medium and will freckle. Overall Jolende is fairly attractive but is not what would be defined as “beautiful”. She wears plain blouses and utilitarian, too-short skirts -- hand-me-downs from older, shorter sisters -- that rustle around her shins instead of her ankles. She wears men’s boots because they fit and long socks to her knees. She has never worn trousers or a ‘real’ dress. If given a choice of clothing Jolende would choose something far more colorful than what she currently wears.
Her hair is long and when unbound falls to mid-back. It is a light red-brown that lightens further to red-gold in the summer. It has a slight wave and is usually kept in one or more braids, wound in a bun or tucked up into a hat. Eye color is hazel.
Personality: Jolende is curious, ruminative and sensible, often seeming older than she is and knowing more than she should. Handy at most domestic work, she is a willing worker and learns fast. She gives the impression of single-mindedness when at a task but actually takes in what else goes on. While she does enjoy gossip, she tends to only pass on the harmless type and feels that malicious gossip is not her ‘business’ to send on its way. She will judge all she meets but keeps her opinions to herself; rather she uses her judgment to negotiate in the current social climate and to determine how to interact with each person. Growing up, her mother strictly forbade her and her sisters to deal with most of the “sons’ work” of the cothold so Jolende’s experience with animals is limited to occasional brief ‘understandings’ with barn cats. Despite her inexperience with them, she is not afraid of any type of animal that she has thus far encountered. Jolende has never been squeamish – nor pretended to be -- though her mother thought that trait unfeminine. From her early teens, Jolende has had an interest in collecting, growing and drying herbs for cooking and for teas and has developed a few favorite teas and meals though she knows little of the healing side of herbs. A special possession she has is a spout-cap shaped like a rose that sings when the kettle is steaming.
Hobbies/Skills: The only thing that Jolende could claim as a true skill would be her basket weaving. For her age and experience, Jolende is an adequate hand at most household skills with a few shining examples of recipes that she can be proud of.
Pets:None
History: Jolende was always tall for her age and the expectations of those around her were what would be expected of an older girl so she learned many household duties at a younger age. Jolende is not terribly crushed by the fact that her younger sister married at 15 but is keenly aware that her family has had no suitors approach them for her hand. Her chances at a match were thought to become even slimmer when her father was injured and her eldest brother moved in with his family to take over the cot, including his pretty teenaged daughters.
Shortly after her brother’s arrival, an acquaintance of his requested her hand and she found herself married and swept far away to be the wife of an absentee cotholder husband. The only other persons at the cothold was an old, arthritic pensioner who worked the farmcot while the cotholder was out – which was most of the time -- and his nearly blind but enormously knowledgeable wife. With Jolende’s inexperienced but willing help and despite her new husband’s frequent absence, the tiny cothold was able to cover the required tithes and have enough for the seasons – barely.
