The spritely Dragon-healer Apprentice, Kaeul, had been up with the rising sun to join other early-rising staff from the infirmary, kitchen, etc, to help prepare new batches of Numbweed Salve. Oils had been heated, herbs strained, and waxes gently melted into the pot before finally pouring the steamy pot's ingredients into smaller containers for dispersing for individual use. The entire process had taken most of the morning and it was apparently getting close to noon. Kitchen staff now busily rushed about to make final preparations on the next meal to be served. It wasn't long before she was closing up each of the jars, watching the salve begin to cool and thicken into something more like a solid. She worked quietly, until a few of the jars had been boxed up, at which point, she took a deep breath, rising to her feet so that she could deliver them to the infirmary. Patting her face with a small hand towel first, Kaeul rid herself of perspiration that beaded there before taking up the box to be on her way. A few minutes later, with the arm's load of jars-in-a-box, she shouldered open the door to the infirmary. Casting a curious peek inside to make sure she didn't hit anyone on their way out, Kaeul came to set the box near the cabinets of other supplies. "Good afternoon, everyone." The young woman's words were softly spoken as she glanced about, looking to see if any of the candidates who'd been injurred on the hatching sands had been released yet. That would be a happy thing. A pleasant smile graced her charming features, giving dimples to her cheeks as she continued about her work.

In all honesty, it wasn't a serious wound. It was just bleeding profusely. This was no surprise because all head wounds bleed an insane amount. It was just a matter of making sure it was properly cleaned in order to avoid infection. Usually, Yylyevya would do it herself, but the cut was a huge gash that rested directly over her left eye and the blood had crusted in her eye-lashes when she had held it closed for the duration of her sparring match. Now she couldn't open it without getting little flecks of dried blood in the eye and aggravating it further. Usually this still wouldn't be a huge problem, but Yylyevya had recently had an infection in her right eye and it was still recovering. She could make out blurry images of people and objects, enough to finish the spar with a huge axe but not enough to apply first aid to a cut over her only good eye. Stumbling into the infirmary with all the grace of a rampaging herdbeast, Yylyevya approached the first muggy outline of a young woman that she could find and that didn't look too busy. "Hey, I need a cut cleaned and possibly stitched up. Are you capable of doing that?" There was little to be said for Yylyevya's brisk manner, and her bland glaring squint wasn't very forthcoming either. "While you're at it, are you able to handle muscle strain or fatigue. I have an aching twinge in my lower back that I was also hoping to get checked out."

When Yylyevya came through the door, Kaeul turned to the sound. The girls eyes grew wide, but she expressed no amount of surprise or anxiety otherwise. It was a brief moment's glance across the room to other busy infirmary staff that told her she'd be the one left to treat the woman. One woman's silent expressions of rolling eyes also communicated to her that dragonshield members ending up with visits to the infirmary wasn't exactly unexpected either. Even if such things were common however, did not mean Kaeul took any injury lightly. "Hey, I need a cut cleaned and possibly stitched up. Are you capable of doing that?"Moving to Yylyevya, Kaeul set a hand on woman's arm to guide her to one of the infirmary beds so that she could have a seat. She ignored the woman's brusk manner, addressing her politely. "Yes, Ma'am. I can fix you right up.""While you're at it, are you able to handle muscle strain or fatigue. I have an aching twinge in my lower back that I was also hoping to get checked out.""Mmm. Yes Ma'am. Let's get the wound on your head seen to first."As soon as Yylyevya had taken a seat, Kaeul was already busy cleaning the area of the head wound. Her go-to herbs for bleeding were Stinging nettle weeds. They grew proliferously so it was easy to find them fresh -which she did harvest a few almost every morning. As far as Kaeul knew, few other healers used the stinging weeds to treat any patient. In fact, their use was rare enough that an elder healing woman had once verbally berrated her for using such a thing to treat goodly people, because it was simply 'unproven' and 'unorthodox'. Nevertheless, Kaeul had grown up using such unorthodox methods. Caravans, even some Cotholds, were not home to schooled Healers; people simply lived by experience and used whatever means they had at their disposal to maintain a decent quality of health and life. Even if it angered some Healers further, Kaeul would use the best means by which she knew to treat those who came to her for remedy. She could appologize after her patient was healed. Seeing that the wound wasn't too terrible, and like the woman suggested, only needed a few stitches, Kaeul began using the nettle weed as a poltice to cover the woman's head gash. It would stop bleeding in no time. After all, nettle weed could even bring a stop to the bleeding of major arteries. While the nettle weed worked its magic, Kaeul would gage any sign of further injury or internal trauma, first by examining the woman's eyes, then by asking her a few questions, "I'm sorry, we haven't met before. Could you tell me your name? And just exactly what happened to cause such an injury?"And awaiting the woman's answer, the girl poured Yylyevya a cup of fellis to put her nerves at ease and help desensitize her for the process of applying stitches. Of course, it would be after the wound had stopped bleeding she could apply the fresh numbweed salve.

Yylyevya allowed herself to be led stiffly to the infirmary bed. She felt that she could make such a trip on her own, and didn't like having someone treat her like she was incapable of such a small feat. Holding her tongue, the Dragonshield member almost refused to sit out of spite, but sit she did. Her posture was rigid and unfriendly as she decided she wasn't sure if this healer was competent or not. Throughout the years, Yylyevya had endured many injuries and had almost memorized every medicine needed for a cut like this. One thing was for sure, nettleweed was something she crawled through on missions, it wasn't put on wounds. As a creature of habit, Yylyevya didn't like new things. As a result, the tall women would straighten further and pull back whenever the healer attempted to apply the salve. "Name's Yylyevya. Fighting. What are you doing?" Yylyevya accepted the cup of fellis but didn't drink it. She would wait until the healer explained what salve she was attempting to use, and why it wasn't something Yylyevya was used to.

Kaeul sat back, a little startled when the woman straightened herself and leaned back with an aversion to the application of the herbs.
"It's Nettle. It stops the bleeding." Grinning wryly, "All the stingers have been removed", unfortunately, she thought. "After I've applied the nettle, I'll get some numbweed on you for the stitches."
The young woman placed the container of nettle with her hands in her lap, watching the woman patiently, to see if she would oblige.
"I could use something else, but this will get you back to training faster. Or if you prefer, you can get in line for one of the other healers. It makes no difference to me."

Yylyevya narrowed her eye's some but moved forwards so that she was no longer as stand-offish as she had been before. The woman in front of her had offered the answer swift enough, and although Yylyevya had no way of verifying her response, she decided to let the healer get on with her work. If anything amiss came up later, Yylyevya would deal with it then. "Get on with it then." Sipping the fellis slowly, Yylyevya held her head still so that her unnamed healer would be able to apply her nettle salve. The bleeding was really beginning to annoy Yylyevya something fierce.

"Well, fighting Yylyevya." Kaeul smiled then, as she started back to work on the Shield member's head gash. Was the woman always wary of Healers, or was it just her? Kaeul wondered if it was the salve or maybe she looked too young to be experienced enough to give good care to a patient. "I'm Kaeul, Apprentice dragon healer. It's nice to meet you."It was soon enough the bleeding had stopped, and Kaeul was quick to add the numbweed salve, wishing Yylyevya would drink the Fellis as well. "I'll have this taken care of quickly so that you can get back to your work. But I'd suggest making activities a little lighter the rest of the day."Numbing effect took place quickly, so by the time Kaeul reached into the supply of sterile needles and threaded one with the thin string of animal intestine tissue, they should both be ready to start the whole stitches procedure. "Yylyevya, would you like more time to finish your drink first, to relax you? Or are you ready for me to begin?""Once the stitches are in place, I'd like to have you come back to visit the infirmary just to have the injury checked for any sign of infection every couple of days until one of the healers notifys you otherwise. Or unless for some reason the stitches need to be replaced if they were to break too eary. They should go away on their own though, by the time the cut heals."

There was a pause after Kaeul introduced herself before her prickly patient gave a grunted rendition of her own name. Yylyevya didn't bother saying she was a Dragonshield member because it was already obvious by her dress and wounds. Besides, even if Kaeul had never seen her in the infirmary before, Yylyevya was certain the girl would be seeing her again very soon. Yylyevya had a bad habit of ignoring her healers the moment she stepped out of the infirmary, but she counter-balanced that mildly self-destructive trait by visiting the healers when she needed to rather than waiting until things got serious. Draining the fellis in one large gulp after the healer drew her attention to it, Yylyevya set the empty cup on the bed beside her. Now came the process of stitching. Yylyevya slouched a little in boredom. "Yeah, I'm ready."

Pressing her lips together in restrained but delighted smile, Kaeul waited until Yylyevya had done away with her cup to begin, "Alright. Before the candlemark is up, we'll have you on your way."
The apprentice dragonhealer was glad to have Yylyevya show trust in her and would prove to the woman that she was just as masterful at administering the minor operation as any other infirmary staff.
Kaeul carefully shaved away the hair directly around the woman's head injury and cleaned up the area again before she began stitching the wound closed. As the needle pulled the string through, the girl periodically paused to make sure enough numbweed salve had been added topically around the area so that the worse Yylyevya would feel would be the sensation of the tug on her skin, but no real discomfort. Before too long, there were 15 stitches in place.
Getting up, Kaeul went to the wash basin, sterilizing her hands. She returned to gentlu clean the area around the newly closed up cut and grinned to herself, approving of her own work.
"There. That should do it."
Holding up a small tin of numbweed salve for Yylyevya, the apprentice dragon healer offered it to her. "Apply as needed, but don't forget to come back every couple of days to have it looked at again, just to make sure it's healing properly."

Yylyevya sat stock still as her healer was stitching the wound. The girl just looked so delighted at the prospect of treating her that Yylyevya took pity and didn't squirm. There was something about healers that usually had Yylyevya defensive and brisk to the point of stubborn. She was actually behaving quite well at the moment. Once the stitches were in place, Yylyevya prodded the area carefully with her fingers before Kaeul could come back and clean it. The stitches seemed tight enough, and Yylyevya accepted the numbweed with no real intent to use it. She also had no intent to return before the stitches needed to come out wither, but that was not something you shared with your healer. Standing and running a hand over the little patch of fuzz she now sported around her wound, Yylyevya attempted a small smile. "Thanks."

The girl adopted a wry, lopsided grin that was her doubting that she'd see Yylyevya back in the infirmary for a checkup anytime soon -not for this injury anyway; but she didn't voice her scepticism. "Sure. Anytime. Try to be more careful out there, alright?" Clasping hands before her, Kaeul bowed graciously and then turned from her to wash her hands again and get back to her other work
