Loghan found himself tired and pleasantly wore out from all the sparing they had been doing this morning. He and most of the members of the Shield, and those from the wing they were sparing with were all settled at tables in the Dinning Cavern. Seemed it made them all just as hungry as he was this morning.
He had made sure to get fresh scraps for Precious to eat. She was acting different today. Short tempered and a bit waspish, quite unusual for her. Loghan had no idea why she was behaving this way. She settled on the table in front of him and paced back and forth in agitation. He offered her a piece of meat, she scoffed at it in flit fashion before taking off and making a flyby around the room.
Suddenly she squacked and folded her wings back against her golden hide as she dove. There was a quick squak of surprise as she pounced on a critter that no one saw slinking along the wall. Precious tore into her catch blooding it and sending pieces of slaughtered rodent flying everywhere. Launching herself off the floor, she circled the Dinning Cavern once more before pouncing on the plate of meat Loghan had in front of him.
Loghan watched Precious pounce and blood her kill, the silly man still didn't have a clue what was going on. When she dove into the plate of meat in front of him and tore a few of those to shreads effectively making a huge mess all over that section of table before she took once again to the air to circle around the Dinning Cavern.
Precious circled once calling to all the males to catch her before she swerved out of the Cavern with other flits on her tail.
Loghan sat there in stunned silence. Someone shouted, "Look, a flit rises." As they encouraged their flit into chasing her. Only then did it make sense to the Captain of the Shield. This was her first flight, no wonder he didn't know what was going on. Grinning, he encouraged her to enjoy herself and to give them all a good run for their money.

Bronze && Blue [Wild Brother Flitters] Though usually keeping well away from the population of the Weyr the sneaky brother pair had still remained somewhat in their "new territory" after failing to catch the last rising gold. There was plenty of food to go around, as well as places to hide, not to metion other pretty gold firelizards around. The part they loved most was that other flitters didn't bother to steal their territory away from them; so long as they didn't go near their humans or dragons the others of their kind didn't seem to mind their presence in the least.
Hanging about the lower caverns the two flitters had become part of the pest control routine, and in return for their slaughtering of tunnelsnakes and other annoying vermin the woman below were more than happy to leave a plate of scraps out every once in a while at nights. Come morning the food was always gone, and so long as the two wild flitters didn't make much problems for them the woman saw nothing wrong with this mutually benefitial relationship.
Today had been another day like any other, both young and scar covered brothers resting on one of the ledges of an unoccupied weyr; close enough in level to the Weyrhall and its dinning areas, when the sweet melody of the newest rising gold caught both their attentions. With excited chattering both males were soon scrambling to the skies, having recently feasted in meat scraps a couple nights ago they felt no need to blood any type of kill.
Leading in the duo was teh bronze as he swerved and disappeared into the corridors and halls of the Weyr, soon enough spotting th shining hide of Precious and her other suitors as he closed the distance between them. Robust and wild, he knew he was awesome and was about to prove it. A loud chirp-like trumpet was set loose to announce his arrival; snapping at a brown flitt too close for his liking before he once more sped further.
There she was, that pretty lil' gold thing; barely a few inches of distance between them as he gave chase.
His blue brother was less assertive, though while he hung more to the back of the pack of flitters flying after the young queen he allowed sweet chirpful melodies to flood all of their ears.He could not compete in strenght with the browns and bronzes; but by Faranth he could sing so beautifully. He would serenade the little queen in hopes of making her his.

"Aiish! What was that for?" Kyo walked with his tray of food toward the table Lohgan and other Shield members had situated themselves about. When he got there, he set the tray down and reached to rub the shoulder his brown flit had just taken off from. In all Gweetus's excitement, he'd ripped little claw marks into the man's shirt and raked thin scratches into his skin.. Kyo's eyes followed the brown for a moment, soon understanding what it was he was after...then he smirked. "Lohgan. I care for you and all, but if my brown catches your queen, don't expect me to wake up in your room in the morning. Bromance just isn't my thing." Kyo sat down at the table and dug into his food, reaching out periodically to his little brown Gweetus with thoughts of encouragement until the brown disappeared from the dining cavern. Gweetus called out invitingly to announce himself to the glowing queen while he tailed closely behind her in pursuit. When in short order other Wild flits arrived, one nipping, he gave a challenging bugle, spurring himself in furious wingstrokes to gain a good lead.

Precious swept around the corner and up toward the ceiling of the hallway they were all headed down. She dove quickly toward the floor and swapped directions heading back the way she came getting a good look at those that were chasing her. She remembered the wild bronze and blue flits that sometimes was in the kitchen for a treat when she was. Then there was the new brown Gweetus that had joined in.
Pleased that there was at least one of each color giving chase, she called out to them teasingly. She barrel rolled under Gweetus lightly touching him on his belly as she darted past around another corner heading for another section of the wyer before going outside. She wasn't going to let them catch her so quickly, they were going to have to work for it. This was her first flight and she wanted it to be a good one, she deserved it to be a good one.
Zipping past people on her way Precious found her way outside at last, heading skyward she called to the boys. "Catch me if you can!" as her gleeming golden hide reflected the early evenings sunlight. This was wonderful, she felt so powerful, so free!

::Bronze Tracker:: belongs to Marle Marle's bronze Tracker was there in a flash, his dark coppery hide gleaming as he screeched at Precious to pick him! For he was the obvious choice! The firelizard looped around some of the others, showing off his agility for his little size. Tracker didn't recognize the wild flitters, mostly because he was always curled around Marle's neck. Having been trained to help his big friend track, Tracker zeroed in on Precious with ease, sometimes anticipating her movements as he flew hard to stay on the tip of her tail.
Marle himself was not surprised by Tracker's decision to chase Precious. Since Marle and Loghan worked together in the Dragon Shield the two firelizards saw each other often. It was bothersome to the man, however, since he'd been trying to enjoy a peaceful lunch.
Following Precious out into the open sunlight, Tracker sent the beautiful little queen fierce feelings of pride and confidence, clearly telling her that he would give her the best flight and therefore the best clutch possible.

Bronze && Blue [Wild Brother Flitters] Training in tracking might be one thing, but nothing could beat the wild instincts and turns of growing up actually applying it to survive. After all, no food meant certain death for the little creatures, and unlike these domesticated ones with their weird creatures that fed them these two wild flitters had missed on that commodity for turns and turns. With ease the bronze could keep pace with the gold, turning a sliver of a second after she did so and angling his path to mimic hers.
He was not as courteous however, where she might angle just enough to avoid a head the bronze had no problem letting one of the lower cavern drudges take a tail slap to the face as he passed in pursuit of precious. It was that dumb thing’s fault anyways for not moving out of the way fast enough.
The brown was largely ignored as Bronze kept his lead in the pack of pursuing males; though at one point he returned the bulge of the brown with an even deep and stronger one of his own, tinted hit a faint of sarcasm in itself. This brown thought he could challenge him, how cute of him.
He should go away and chase greens, he was not fit to chase after golds.
As the gold pulled an u-turn on them the bronze mimicked almost to near perfection – only swerving away to avoid colliding with the other bronze now chasing as he gave a very unpleasant and rude hiss towards the new competitor. Did he just think he could swoop in and try to knock him off his rightful place as this young gold’s future mate?
He would absolutely not stand for this!
Quickly correcting his flight pattern he was once more gaining ground once more as the mall fair of flitters popped out of the caverns and into the open space of the weyrbowl. Catching up wih the other bronze was simple, the wild and scar covered firelizard giving a warning snap in the direction of the other male’s tail before he attempted to overtake him. And such he flew, just at the same distance from the gold and parallel to his new rival; only avoiding a collision at such close proximities by the honing of his skills all those turns in the southern wilds.
He would show this bronze his proper place, behind him as he flew away with the pretty gold twined against his metallic olive shaded hide.
Whirling purple eyes turned ahead once more to gaze at the object of his desire, the bronze certainly not shy to broadcast his want and admiration at the young and gorgeous gold. He lacked the words other human raised firelizards might use, but the message was more than clear for any of his kind. He wanted her, he needed her. He would care and protect her like no other ever could and would.
She just had to choose him, these others paled in his brilliance -- and even more in her presence!!!
---
He was at it again, the small blue chattering to himself slightly in displeasure as he watched the antics of his brother. Unlike Bronze this little blue was much laid back and well mannered; carefully avoiding people and lamps and things as he flew at the back of the fair. On and off he kept his sweet melodies going; Blue was pretty convinced he stood no chance now with two bronzes and a brown; but he would still serenade the pretty gold as he chased.
After all, she was so beautiful. She deserved sweet melodies of her greatness and more in such a special moment!
And so the flitter kept to his paced routine, slowly but surely falling further back and back from the others – though it did had his advantages. Whenever the gold suddenly dove after going so high his place so far back meant he did’t have to climb so much to then dive; occasionally managing to catch up on and off with the brown usig these little tricks as the flight progressed.

Gweetus turned on a wingtip, following the rest of the firelizard band in a dive to chase the queen as she barrel rolled steeply. His wings expanded, sweeping upward, beating the wind furiously to keep pace with Precious and the Wild ones who were now beginning to gain a lead on him. The little Taupe brown wasn't about to give up however; he popped out in the weyrbowl spurred on by the gleaming golden beauty before him. Cutting a path across of one of the Wild ones, he threatened with little nips and bites, chomping his maw ferrociusly, nearly colliding with the other. (muse only half awake. forgive. )

:: Bronze Tracker belongs to Marle
Tracker barely payed the wild flits any attention as they flew around him, and he only briefly became distracted by Gweetus who nearly flew straight into him. Miffed that the brown couldn't seem to control his path, the bronze firelizard straightened his tail, and tightened his wings closer to his body, darting forward like an arrow released from a bow.
Choose me, choose me! Tracker sent this anxious thought to Precious as he flew valiantly to keep up with her. He had admired her from afar, and up close, so often, surely she would remember those times that they had sunned together.
No wild! No wild! Pick Tracker, Pick Tracker! He sent these persistant thoughts to Precious along with images and feelings of how fast and beautiful he was and what a great clutch they would make. Shards, forget the clutch! He would bring her the best flight ever! If only the beautiful little Queen would choose him, he would show her that he was worthy of her time!

Precious was enjoying herself as she twisted and turned, dove and soared. Turning to look at the gathering flair behind her she bugled her pleasure at the turn out. Then there was a different voice, a familiar voice, one she trusted. As some of the mist cleared in her brain she heard the chanting Tracker calling to her. She like this bronze, she felt save when she was with him. She swapped directions once again, diving and coming up next to her friend before once again the wild one caught her attention and she veered off.
He wasn't handsome but oh could he fly, she played with him a bit before paying a quick homage to the taupe colored brown, and then brushing the little blue with a wingtip. There, that aught to give him a bit of thanks for joining, his songs were so sweet and pleasing to her ears. She zipped between the other brown and bronze before heading straight for the Weyr once again. She was starting to tire, she would need to make her choice soon.
She called to them all blue to bronze alike. 'catch me if you can boys!' she screeched as she arrived in the Weyr bowl at full speed, making a quick dive that brought her close to the ground and around several startled humans as she expertly weaved between them before making her final ascent. Yes lets see what they got left in them, Precious thought as she watched them follow the path she made between the humans far below her now.

::Bronze Tracker:: belongs to Marle
Tracker was thrilled when Precious bestowed some of her time in the flight on him, coming to fly close to his side. Cooing to the beautiful, golden queen, Tracker was just reaching out to rub his little wedged-shaped head against her side when she zipped off to fly among the Wild Flits. No, no, no! The bronze cried, flapping his wings in an erratic pattern as he flew after her.
When Precious took the time to give some attention to the blue firelizard in the pack, Tracker gave a little snort. A blue was certainly not worthy of a radiant queen such as Precious! A blue could not give her a big healthy clutch! Nor could a blue carry her out for a long, slow flight. But Tracker could and he didn't want her to forget that he was there!
Come to Tracker! Come to Tracker! He sent the feelings of urgency to the queen along with images of the times that they'd spent curled up together in the sun while their "big friends" (Marle and Loghan) discussed Dragon Shield matters. It was simple logic, to Tracker, that he and Precious belonged together, and he strained his neck out, working his wings so hard that his arm joints burned with a fiery ache. Please!

Bronze && Blue [Wild Brother Flitters] As the pretty gold flirted with the newest bronze addition to the fair the wild flit couldn’t help the swirls of red tinting his purple whirling eyes, jealousy was strong and something the wild flit detested. Yet he’d been in enough flights in the pas to not act upon such feelings, instead using them as more energy to continue flying strong and unwavering. He was the best logical option here; seasoned, strong, experienced. He could not only give Precious a magnificent clutch; but he could also protect it.
As the gold finally flew towards him the wild flitter let out the first soft and enchanting croon in all the flight; meant only for her beautiful ears to listen. It was then he broadcasted his emotions to her. He lacked those words Tracker used, having no human of his own, but words only served to confuse further – pure feelings could not be misunderstood.
He broadcasted his adoration and desire for her, his lusting addiction to her beautiful golden hide; as well as feelings of strength and protection. He was the perfect mate; strong and yet caring, protecting yet understanding. He could keep her safe from anything, as well as the beautiful eggs they would create. He would do a much better job than that other gold of the Weyr and her bronze had; he would not allow anyone to steal any of their eggs – grown-ups and kids alike.
He was sure to share all of this with the young and inexperienced queen, flying with ease around her as she playfully teased him. The bronze had even went as far as lovingly nip the tip of her beautiful tail in a gesture of affection – had he truly wanted to be mean he could have swooped her from the skies long ago. No, he would let her enjoy her freedom, even flirt a bit with the other males.
There was no doubt in the confident and self-assured male; beautiful Precious would eventually come back to him and be his.
Once more she dove, the bronze quickly snapping his wings together as he free fell in pursuit of the young queen, his wings snapping open and directing him to the side just in time to avoid collision with either the ground or one of these big thing’s legs. Why wouldn’t they all just move out of their way anyways? With a snort he weaved and twisted around them with fluid ease, always keeping his path as close to Precious as possible; barely a wing beat away from the gold at any moment.
He was here, he would always be here. For her.
---
Oh she had noticed him! As Precious came close, brushing one of his wing tips with her form, the smaller blue twittered excitedly his own delight. She had heard his sweet melodies to her; she had heard him and come! The act alone was enough to boast the small little blue’s confident as his chest puffed with glee and pride; his sweet melodies resumed with more vigor and gusto than before.
Still once she dove into the legs of the humans once more the blue cut his dive shorter, instead gliding above their heads as he followed the other males and gold weaving below while he continued his sweet melodies. He was tiring, his muscles ached horribly, the little blue had always known he had no chance in this flight.
He had just wanted to sing for her, and he had; and she had thanked him in return for it. That was already far more than the little blue had ever desired.

Next to the insane endurance of the Wild ones and the natural strength of the bronzes, Gweetus had lost his lead.
The little brown had kept his stamina up as long as he could, so was greatful when the golden beauty took another dive, spiraling in a dangerous path through the flailing limbs of unsuspecting passers by. That gave his wings short lived relief . But the next climb would be a torturous last, if he could make it.
Gweetus enticed Precious all the while with feelings of his adoration, assuring her over and over that he would father for her the most perfect, largest clutch. Only She could ever be the queen for him. With images of their bodies entwined, he would protect her and their clutch. He had to be the one!
Unfortunately for both of them, when he wasn't lost in a surge of male hormones, this little brown tended to be a bit frightened of everything. But for now!! But for now, he was tough stuff!! What a hunk!
Puffing his chest out in a final surge of determination, Gweetus' wings caught the wind again, daring to push himself dangerously to the brink of over-exertion as the queen lifted into the air ahead of them. Gweetus let out a bold call to the queen, announcing his determination like a challenge, both to himself and others who participated in the flight.

Precious was tiring fast as she climbed for the last time. She didn't look anywhere but up as she beat her way as high as she dared go. Pausing for a split second, she took in the scene under her. The flight and the chase had been fun. She knew who she was looking for, where was he?
Spreading her wings she caught a thermal that allowed the flair to almost catch up to her as she allowed her wings to rest a moment while she searched for her chosen mate. There he was, he was coming in fast. When he got close, she crooned her acceptance at the tiring bronze.
There you are Tracker, I've been waiting for you to join me. I am ready.[/b] Precious stretched her glowing golden neck out toward her suiter.
Loghan sagged with relief. It was done. He wouldn't have to be apologizing to anymore people that had been chased out of Precious' way as she enjoyed her first flight. He was surprised at how much and how little he could feel of the event. Mostly images he got were interesting.
He understood a little better what the dragonriders endured when their full sized cousins rose. Interesting that he would now need to find himself a partner. Oh well. It had been a long time at that. Getting up and gathering his tray of dirty dishes, he headed for the bins. He found a drudge that he had been with a few times, and she was getting off duty. They retired to his quarters for a bit of pleasure.
