Appearance:
Kyo is fairly lean, but well filled out. He is not hugely bulky in muscle and works his muscles in a way that trains them not to be. He stands at 6’3”. His skin tone is light olive brown and his hair is a mop of dark brown layers barely trimmed well enough to be considered well-kept; only under the sunlight there may be a tinge of naturally dark reddish highlights. Kyo’s eyes are also dark brown with the inside of the iris being much lighter in gradation.
Personality:
Those who know Kyo often refer to him as one of two names: Black Kyo or White Kyo. The man’s personality seems split between extremes often times. He can either be kind, calm and collected or in a rage; either may come on without warning. IF one can stand his sometimes extreme swings in expression, he is not difficult person to like or get along with.
Kyo does prefer hanging out with the Guard crowd or other Shield members, but has never desired a mate be from that inner circle of acquaintances. He is not exceptionally outspoken except for when in the company of close friends. He doesn’t like to drink and is a little shy. Around his peers, he likes to goof around and make wise cracks.
Hobbies/Skills:
Kyo’s hobbies revolve around combat training for the most part. In his quiet time alone, he keeps pieces of rice paper or starched cloth that he folds into figures which he’ll leave as little calling cards of his presence.
Favoured combat skills:
-Acrobatic
-Varying sword/blade lengths (30.3 - 60.6 cm)
Secondary skills:
-Stealth
-Hand to hand
Pets:
Brown firelizard named Gweetus.
Avg size for a brown and his hide is the colour of light taupe, fading to a dark sandy brown on his underside.
The brown seems to think that he’s just a small Bronze. He likes to act bold but becomes easily frightened by simple things, usually flitting off Between before coming back to scold whatever it was that scared him in the first place.
History:
Kyo grew up in the Weyr because his father’d been taken on a Search to Refuge when he was young, but Akon never impressed, and when he’d met Miyane, another, but younger candidate, she quickly became pregnant, causing her to resign her candidacy.
Akon became a smith in the weyr while he and Miyane raised their many children.
As Kyo came of age, he declined every opportunity to stand to Impress. He thought it a more important task protecting the dragons and the riders themselves, so decided to join the Weyr Guard as early as they’d let him. His father admonished him because to what end would he lead a good life, making himself a part of the Weyr Guard? What real skills would he learn that would better his life at the weyr or the lives of others? What prestige was there to be had in the Guard? But Black Kyo was a rebel, and all he wanted to do was fight. Somehow, joining the Weyr Guard justified that in his mind.
Upon the formation of the Dragon Shield, Kyo saw his chance to proove to his family that there was more to his fighting skills than they believed in the past. Kyo would proove to his father that he could make a name for himself and lead a life worth being proud of, even by continuing to fight. Dragon Shield solidified a purpose for Kyo and being called a member of the infamous Dragon Shield would be the greatest title of prestige on Pern that he could attain.
Only within the last couple of turns did he qualify to join the elite Dragon Shield, for which he then spent several turns preparing for. Every day he would work to maintain that battle-ready superiority that they looked for in each of their members...and then some. Every day, he would earn that membership. Not to mention, it had never escaped him, the fact that he still had much to learn from Dragon Shield’s senior members. Kyo was well aware that even once he’d joined the ranks of Dragon Shield, he had not reached the top yet....but he would get there.
Relationships with relatives outside the weyr is spotty. He has not met many of them and only in the past 5 turns has really gotten to know the cousins who'd arrived at the Weyr to become riders themselves. He has been glad for the chance to feel a little more connected with riders in general, now that those familial relationships are budding; he supposes that that could be considered an important aspect of being in the Shield -being familiar with who and what you are fighting for/ protecting all the time. After all, if one could find a passion in their purpose, there was no way to be victorious in battle.
