Character
Name: Arvid
Age: 34
Gender: Female
Rank: Little higher then the typical peon
Sexual Orientation Hetero but she's not above making eyes at a girl if it means getting close to them and going staby-staby.
Family:
Father: Arvas (59 turns)
Mother: Namid (53 turns)
Younger Brother: Arvad (31 turns)
Younger Sister: Namas (29 turns)
Maternal Grandmother: Ravid (deceased)
Maternal Uncle: Namird (deceased)
Appearance:
Face claim: Michelle Yeoh
Arvid doesn’t look like a fighter. Her frame is slim but doesn’t look frail or delicate. She just doesn’t pack on the muscles like some people do. She’s a flexible girl though, using that to her advantage whenever she can.
Her hair is brown with some auburn highlights to it and kept a little past shoulder length. Her almond shaped eyes are dark brown, almost black looking from a distance. Her lips are almost always set in a look of stubbornness and it’s rare to see her smile.
Arvid keeps a number of charms and talismans on her; feathers, claws, bones, patches of fur. She uses them to help her better hear certain spirits and to help with her healing.
Personality:
Arvid is a fairly serious woman. The life of a Holdless does not allow much time for joking and goofing off. She can tolerate the younger children having fun so long as they also know when to shape up but she sees nothing amusing in adults who still act like children.
While she’s not the easiest person to get along with, Arvid doesn’t go out of her way to create problems for others. She may not like someone but she won’t start pushing their buttons just to annoy them. Nor does she like it when other Holdless start to provoke others. They’re all one big, dysfunctional family that has a common enemy, once the dragons and dragon riders are taken care of, then they can bicker with each other.
The thing that people notice very quickly about Arvid is that she seems a little… off. She has her own system of beliefs that she doesn’t really share with anyone, feeling that they won’t be able to understand it and appreciate it properly. She believes that everything around them, from the worms, the plants, the rocks, and birds, all have a spirit. She communes with the spirits to ask them for favors or help. Like asking a local herb to help heal wounds faster, or for the birds in the trees to be quiet and not give her away.
Arvid holds grudges. And she holds them very well. Those who make it on her shit list know it right away. She can get rather petty about it as well, using her position as a healer to get back at others. While she won’t outright refuse to treat someone, she can find the most painful way to take care of them.
Hobbies/Skills:
-She’s a healer, but not the kind that went to school to learn her craft. Most of what she knows has been passed down to her by her grandmother or learned through trial and error.
-Good with a knife but prefers to sneak in close and do assassination style stuff rather then hand-to-hand fighting.
-Very good at talking to inanimate things. And no one is really quite sure if she can actually understand the sprits she claims she talks to or if she just gets lucky.
Pets:
History:
Mental illness was a trait that ran through Arvid’s family. At some point during their teen turns, they would claim they could hear voices. For some relatives, the voices drove them mad, others learned to deal with it.
Born and raised in one of the holds of the South, Arvid never paid much attention to her family history. She knew the important stuff, blah blah blah ancestors who were dragon riders blah blah. She knew that her grandmother was off her rocker and that her uncle had killed himself but didn’t really care about it all herself. So long as her grandmother didn’t act too crazy when she was with friends then Arvid didn’t care what the old woman talked to.
But the girl was born with the family curse and when she was 12 turns old she started to hear the whispering voices in her own head. She panicked at first before turning to her grandmother for help in dealing with her new problem. Her grandmother guided her, telling her it was better to listen to the voices and learn from them rather then trying to ignore them. Though she became a bit more withdrawn from people, she found a way to deal with what was going on.
Her brother was luckier then her, not only did he not have the family curse, he was searched out by Refugee Weyr. The family was excited that they could end up with another dragon rider in the family after not having once since they were first exiled. When it came time for the Hatching, Arvid and her family traveled to the Weyr to see if Arvad would Impress or not. Going to the sands for the Hatching though was a shock for Arvid, she had grown use to hearing the voices of the spirits in her mind but the dragon eggs were dead silent to her. Rocks had voices and yet these eggs had nothing. She only grew more and more uncomfortable as the dragons started to hatch and there was still nothing but silence in her mind. She left the hatching half way through, unable to stand being there in the silence any more. Her brother didn’t Impress but decided to stay at the Weyr in hopes of another hatching. Arvid simply wanted to get away from the Weyr and wasn’t shy about showing it.
As much as she tried to forget about the dragons, she couldn’t stop thinking about it. The more she thought about it, the more she started to realize that the things she could hear and speak to were natural things. If the dragons lacked a spirit to hear, then they must be unnatural. And the more she thought about it, the more she thought that something had to be done about the dragons. They had no spirit therefore they were unfit to live and take up space on Pern. Her ideals extended to fire lizards as well, as she was unable to hear anything from them as well.
Though she wanted to do something about dragons, she knew that she was unable to do anything by herself. Then she met Riverton. While she didn’t have a seething hate for dragons and their riders like he did, she fully agreed that something needed to be done about the dragons and joined up with him and his Holdless.
