Appearance: Therion tends to look at herself as rather average in appearance, which is both a good and a bad thing, since she could look better, but she could also look worse. She stands roughly 5’7” when she stands straight, so there are people taller than her and people smaller than her. While she has no obvious blemishes marring her appearance, she doesn’t have the look of an angel either. Her face is rather round, with dark blue eyes, a somewhat tiny nose, and rather bland brown hair. She tends to get annoyed when she sees people with prettier hair, because it just reminds her how boring and plain hers is. In fact, she usually gets annoyed around girls that are prettier than her just because they happened to look better than her. She would probably be much happier in life if she was blind, but then she would just have new things to complain about.
Generally, she is always thin. This is because she can’t stand the idea of being fat, so if she does think that then she’ll just eat less until she’s skinny again. The only reason she isn’t technically anorexic is because of definition of skinny is not twig-thin. She’s smart enough to know that not eating is unhealthy, so she tends to avoid a large extreme in any case. Therion doesn’t really get along with people that are past her definition of skinny and don’t have a problem with it. Mostly she just thinks they’re weird for not caring.
She loves to wear clothes that make her look pretty. Anything that can make her look better than the girl that looks better than her without trying, Therion is going for. Since she hates people that are prettier than her, she does everything she can to make herself look as beautiful as she can. It is to her misfortune that she really isn’t all the beautiful herself. Some people are born naturally pretty, but Therion has to work for it. In her experience, she has to work for everything, because it always seems like nothing is just handed too her (like it is to everyone else). Unlike those lucky “gifted” people Therion actually works to be recognized (so naturally everyone should like her better, because she actually works to be good, because there is totally nothing she is good at without trying, except all those things she’s good at).
Personality: Therion is good at quite a number of things actually, and she takes pride in this. In fact, one of her favorite things to do is be able to prove that she is better at something than everyone else. She likes to be noticed for her achievements, but she hates it when others are noticed for their achievements. Basically, if anyone is better than her at something she is good at, she automatically doesn’t like them. This can leads to some problems, and pretty much keeps her friend count somewhere around zero a lot of the time. She’ll only make friends with those who are “inferior” to her because she doesn’t want to have friends that can show her up. It’s a very jerk-like trait of hers, but it is still there. She might not show it outright that she resents somebody, but it will become obvious pretty quickly. And it’ll even happen if she’s never seen the person before. The spotlight is hers, and no one else’s.
There is one area, and one area alone, in which someone can excel and Therion won’t mind. This is the world of art and music. She has come to the realization that there are children younger than her that can draw better than her. She can’t carry a tune and her singing voice is anything but dulcet. For Turns, Therion has known that she simply doesn’t excel at anything artsy in the least. She doesn’t even have the patience to draw or weave something beautiful, although she always appreciates good music (not that she can tell what’s good and what isn’t). She might sometimes wish she were good with art-like things, but she knows she isn’t and she also knows she’d never have the patience to do well, so she can enjoy others that can do such things well without feeling any resentment to them for being than her because, hey, everyone’s better than her at those things.
Some people are modest. Some people are Therion. She has this wanna-be hero idea, and she basically wants to be remembered for all time. And she believes that she can do it as well. Her goal is to do something magnificent, and be magnificent in her lifetime, so that people can remember her for Turns. If she thinks there is something she can do that will get her eternally remembered, she’ll jump at it. She knows every thing she is good at, and isn’t scared to admit to herself that she is good at those things. Other people will try to convince themselves they aren’t really good at it, but Therion searches for things she excels at and then does her best to improve upon them. She doesn’t hold back on herself and doesn’t try to lie to herself either.
She is, perhaps, too independent. Therion hates having other people tell her what to do because she always prefers to choose what it is she is going to do, and having other people boss her around never goes down well with her. This can present a problem when the best thing for her to do is what she is being told to do. Things like “chores” and “work” are generally despised by her, and she especially dislikes having to do such “horrid” things. Now, she will get work done if she has too, but she isn’t going to enjoy herself while doing so, and she’ll get upset if anyone else is happy while doing the exact same thing because, if she’s miserable, they ought to be miserable too.
It has perhaps come apparent that she seems to think the world revolves around her. A bit, yeah, she does. She doesn’t like seeing others happy when she is upset. She’s also not the most helpful person around. Therion can’t be expected to jump up and volunteer to help out with something just because it needs to be done. She’ll do stuff that she wants to do or that she absolutely needs to do, but you’d have to force her into doing something she doesn’t want or need to do, and she’ll still do it grumbling. There are a lot of things about her that aren’t easy to like, and she doesn’t tend to get along well with most people at all.
She does have some good traits though (*gasp*). Therion will always stand up for what she believes is right. She hates (usually) to see anything get hurt and can be recklessly brave if she needs to be. No matter what the consequences, she stands up for what is the best thing to do from her view, and she won’t back down from it easily either. If she really wishes to be, Therion can be a powerful speaker and persuade people to do what she wants. She’s not about to stand up and give speeches though; Therion prefers to just talk to a very people, or even just one person. She can be a great conversation starter, and a not-so-great conversation ender, but she generally tries to avoid drawing bucket loads of attention to herself without a good reason (not that she hates attention or anything; it just needs to be for a good cause). Don’t start looking at her as someone that marches up to people and automatically convinces them that she is right. Mostly she’s so arrogant about that they either agree to get her to shut up or they just hate her for it, even if they end up on her side.
Therion has a problem with pillows. Yeah, pillows. She doesn’t even know herself what exactly the root of that problem is, but she still hates them. Therion won’t sleep if there’s a pillow on her bed, even if it’s at her feet. She has no problem with picking it up and tossing it across the room, but she’s not going to pick it up afterwards. She’s had plenty of people telling her how strange it is, but she doesn’t personally care that much about what they think. Therion will not sleep with a pillow in the vicinity, and that’s just how she is. Maybe she likes to have her head level with her body, maybe she doesn’t like having something squishy under her head. Whatever the reason is, she does not fall asleep on beds with pillows on them. And yet, for some reason, every time she moves somewhere and has a new bed, thereon rests a pillow. Then she has to get rid of it, and sometimes this irks others.
She is extremely proficient at being annoying. A terrible trait, but so very true. Easily arrogant, Therion can jump into just about any conversation and make everyone else there wish she’d never existed. This is mostly due to the fact that she believes her opinion has to be listened to first, and then she doesn’t want to hear anyone else’s opinion. Therion is quite good at being loud and then getting huffy when someone tells her to be quiet. Yes, she is the kind of person someone else will look at and think What a complete jerk. And this is the way she comes off a lot of the time.
Calling her a complete jerk wouldn’t be fair though. After all, people can be a lot worse. Therion would not consider physically hurting someone because she didn’t like them (humiliating them, maybe). In a lot of ways, she is quite like a normal person that has some arrogance and ambition to them. The way she acts certainly isn’t all that grand, but that same arrogant belief that she is always right can be a good thing as well. Therion doesn’t follow orders blindly because she wants the “how” and the “why” of everything. She won’t accept an answer to something without evidence, and “maybe” doesn’t always stick too well with her. She is the kind of person that politicians would hate because she will look into the evidence behind everything and do a rather good job of finding out what they’re really up too.
Hobbies/Skills: (I might have covered some of this in personality) Well... she’s good at reading and writing, as well as basic arithmetic. She isn’t physically good at things like running and she doesn’t have loads of muscle either, but then what girl does? Most intelligence-centered things you can assume she is rather good at, because she really is just a smart person. Therion is also rather good at deducing things, and as such someone trying to lie about something will never get along with her, because chances are she’ll be able to discover the truth behind the lie if she sets her mind to it. If you called her a detective, she’d probably laugh, and then think it over by herself and become even more egotistical about being smart so that wouldn’t be a good idea...
Pets: Well, she’d probably like something sometime...
History: Therion’s personality goes far into her history. Her mother, Ria, was just a common cotholder to anyone seeing her for the first time, but she was also a charming and beautiful woman to anyone that knew her. Before she reached her twentieth Turn, Ria was married to Ryanther. Some time later, the two had their first child, a little girl they named Theya, who would grow to be all but a replica of her mother, in personality if not in appearance. The then-small family were lucky to have a very stable lifestyle. The summers were never too hot and the winters were never too cold. Ryanther was a farmer, and with nature on his side, the crops flourished. Although they were never outright rich, Therion’s family always had extra marks to spend on items that were not of dire necessity.
Their next three children were boys, Nithar, Rathor, and Anir, all three intelligent and curious, certain to either become good farmers or learn some other craft that suited them better. By then, Ryanther’s family were known relatively well throughout the cothold. They had a good reputation and were generous to everyone, even strangers who chanced upon them. Therion was their fifth child. As a toddler, she was curious and attention-loving, prone to getting in trouble but also exceptionally bright. What she didn’t have in a charming personality or a cute appearance she made up for in wits. Therion easily learned new things and was soon the smartest child of her age group at the cothold. She was told time and time again how very gifted she was, and it began to affect her. At six and seven Turns of age, Therion loved to run around and play games like the other children. At eight Turns, her focus turned to fulfilling the high expectations everyone had of her. She grew frustrated if there was a problem she couldn’t solve or a concept she couldn’t understand. And if someone else could understand it, that made it all the worse.
Therion used to show some interest in what her father did, but as she grew older she turned her sights, wanting to do something more fulfilling than life on a farm. Everyone said she could do better, and Therion was determined to prove them right. Quickly, she became the best pupil any teacher could dream of having; the problem was that there was no one to teach her. There was only so much that Ria could teach her daughter, and often she too busy for that. Ryanther was busy tending the field all day, and Ria had children to look after. There were no crafthalls on the continent, so Therion was forced to be pleased with what she had.
This one small problem in her life did not make her miserable. Even with having plenty of siblings, Therion managed to stand out. Her sisters were prettier—but not smarter—than her, and the boys spent the days playing with each other or helping out with the farm work. Therion learned from her elder sister that the girls who got the most out of life were pretty, hard-working, and subservient. Considering how well liked Theya was, Therion was happy to follow her example. Her largest joy out of life was to be complimented: to have people tell her how brilliant she was. She also came to realize that people would call her pretty when she wore dresses and combed her hair, so Therion began to do that as well.
Her life began to go downhill for her when her brother Anir was in an accident that caused him to lose a leg. Therion was fourteen Turns at the time, and for the first time in her life, no one paid her any attention no matter what she did to get them to notice her. Everyone that saw her only wanted to know how her brother was doing. Although Therion had never hated any of her siblings before, she began to resent Anir. Losing a limb hadn’t made him give up, and he spent everyday trying to adjust his life. The people around him were nothing but supportive, but in the midst of it all Therion felt desolate and alone. She was used to being the one of her siblings that stood out, because she had always been the smart that, while not the most beautiful girl on Pern, could still learn new things at an astonishing rate. Now she felt what it was like to not be special, because there was someone else more special than you, and she did not adjust to it well.
In fact, she never really did. Rather than just accept that her brother was going to get more attention than her, Therion tried to find some way to be acknowledged again. She would spend everyday becoming more proficient in the things she was good at. While this only helped to improve her skills, Therion wasn’t satisfied because nobody cared. She even considered injuring herself, but didn’t think she wanted to ruin her life by being impaired. She grew more easily irritable and came to dislike her siblings solely because they were happy to help Anir as he tried to get on with life. It was around this time when Therion truly changed, evolving into that teenager personality that magnified because of her anger, evolving the smart, curious Therion-child into an almost demonic teenager. Her siblings learned to always avoid her, and even her parents had trouble getting along with her.
In a way, however, she did get her wish. Therion had wanted nothing more than to be noticed again, and she was, but not in the same way. Rather than becoming loved all around, Therion managed to make everyone want to avoid her. It got to the point where she lost sight of her original goal. Obviously, no one was going to care about her, so rather than try and fix the problem by becoming a better person, she kept heading down her own path of social destruction. Therion gained the power to drive anyone away from her without even thinking about it. She was prejudiced against anyone smart as or smarter than her. She also hated the pretty girls that got attention without trying just because their had beautiful faces or lovely hair.
By the time she had turned 16, Therion was her own best friend. She had to be. Everyone put up with her, and there were still people happy to ask her questions on things they didn’t understand, but for the most part she was avoided. She had turned into a thing that needed to be avoided. Anir had managed to integrate back into society and didn’t have all the attention he used to have, but Therion never forgave him for possessing it all, even if he hadn’t tried. That had taught Therion how very hard it was to be noticed around someone that was simply more noticeable than you. She could do anything she wanted, but there would still be people that would be more noticeable than her. It was something she could never agree or come to terms with. She was inconsistent in that matter because, to her, it was alright for her to be naturally gifted, but completely unacceptable for anyone else to have talents that surpassed her own. Therion had always been pretty terrible sport, but she became even worse. She would rather kill herself than give up in an argument or admit that she was wrong, and someone else was right. If she has a view on something, she becomes nearly impossible to reason with, and even more so when she knows she is wrong, because she won’t admit to it.
It was beneficial to everyone else to avoid Therion, but it did little to improve her. She was in this state when she saw a dragon. Now, she’d seen one or two off in the distance before, but this was the first time there’d even been one this close. As the shape got nearer, Therion could make out the bluish had of the dragon. For everything she did know, Therion knew very little about dragons, and when she confronted the rider, he was happy to explain it all to her. Therion instantly became captivated with the life of a Weyr. She couldn’t believe how lucky these people were, to have a lifelong companion that would always support them, and even protect them with their lives if the need came. When he asked her to come Stand for Aeriath’s next clutch, Therion said yes. The clutch hadn’t been laid yet, but she was more interesting in just going to the Weyr, and getting away from the home where the people who used to look at her happily now hid their faces from her and tried to get away.
Upon reaching her new home, Therion’s mindset changed. Girls Impressed to Greens and Golds, and two had Impressed to Blues recently. Therion new she was better than a Green dragon, and a Blue would hardly be better. She didn’t even try to deny to herself that she wanted a Gold dragon. True, there might not be one, but in that case she would simply Stand for the hatching without Impressing. There would have to be a Gold sometime, and she was going to wait for it. Of course, Therion had to admit she couldn’t automatically believe she could end up with such an amazing and perfect dragon, but if she was better than all of the competition, it had to happen. It was almost turning into a game now, and Therion had always been a sore loser.
Therion met several people while she was at the Weyr, not really making friends with any of them. Her heart still telling her to only associate with higher-class riders, since she was going to be a Gold rider. She stood for the hatching of Aeriath's twelve eggs with eager anticipation. At the end of it, however, she found herself somehow overlooked by the Gold, who had chosen another girl over her. Crushed by this bitter defeat, Therion debated over whether or not she should stay at the Weyr. She eventually decided to do so, deciding that leaving would be giving up, and giving up was not a quality that Queenriders should have. She still plans on Impressing to a Gold. After all, there would undoubtedly have to be others.
At first, Therion was quite depressed that she had failed. Later, however, she came to the conclusion that Elynth had simply been confused and chosen the wrong person as their rider. She is certain, now, that the next Gold will choose her, since there is obviously (in her mind) no better choice for a Gold rider.
She stood for Issarith's clutch, but found it rather pointless, as there was no Gold egg, and so was, of course, delighted when Rhiannoth's first clutch contained one. Therion instantly saw it as another chance, and one that might not come again before she was too old to Stand. She had failed to Impress before, but became certain that she must Impress in the coming hatching, and was certain to do all was necessary to make sure she could Stand near the Queen egg during the hatching.
This she did, eagerly awaiting the moment when the Gold would hatch. But when it finally did, she found herself completely unprepared for the moment. Luckily for her, the dragon did not seem to notice this sudden loss of control and the encompassing fear of failure that she was feeling, for the creature eventually did come to her, and Therion finally found herself in the position she had waited so long to reach.
Color Preference All that glitters or nothing. I just... don't feel like she has the mindset to Impress any other dragon, and she certainly doesn't want too. In the future, that may change.
Dragon Info
Name: Kiiroth (kee-rah-th)
Color:Gold
Age: newly Hatched
Description:
One might note that Kiiroth is rather small for a Gold, especially considering the sizes of the two largest Refuge Queens. However, no one would dare say that she could possibly be less of a Gold because of it. The largest clutches are not always the best, after all, and even clutches are not all there is to a Queen dragon. The easy thing to note about Kiiroth is that she is graceful and delicate. Like her mother, she seems able to take every step with a form of queenly serenity that might be found in no other dragon. Her every movement is that of royalty, and that, far more than her size, is what can secure her as a Queen dragon.
Her hide is a wonderfully bright shade of gold, as though the sun itself was absorbed into her hide and now shines out of her. She is lighter in color than some of the other Golds, but not so pale as to seem rather white. Her hide is, for the most, the same shade of sunshine gold all throughout, and has no swirls or spots or other such markings. This, however, may be just as well. Her rider certainly prefers this to the other possibilities, and it is not her color that is so important more than the dragon within.
Personality:
Kiiroth comes across as a lady in all respects. To all manner of dragons and humans, she will act as polite as she does composed. Just like her walk, her words seem posed and graceful, and nothing she ever says sounds as though it were not thought out before. Saying things on a whim is something Kiiroth is quite careful to avoid. She much prefers all she says to sound like the kind of thing that ought to come from a dragon of her standing. She does not stutter or blurt her feelings. In fact, to all but her rider, she can often seem to be without emotion, or at least with emotions that are quite hard to discern. While a sociable dragon, she also likes to have time to herself and her rider. She is also quite capable and not receiving any credit for her ideas, because she often voices them in such a way that it sounds as though she merely reminds you of an idea that was yours all along. This trait is odd for a Queen dragon, perhaps, but certainly helps to make her seem more like others, and less "above others" than Golds would generally seem.
While a Queen dragon, Kiiroth does not seem to possess all of the arrogance they tend to be known for. She does not always have to have the final say, or even to speak at all in a conversation, especially if she knows she has no good input for the talk at hand. Kiiroth seems to realize that she is not always right, and, at times, may not even have an answer at all. This does not concern her, however. Rather, Kiiroth takes the chance to learn from others. She will eagerly listen to what anyone else has to say. Kiiroth tries to be thoughtful, and conscious of the feelings of others, which is why she is so willing to listen to what they might have to say, and to not do things that might harm them unnecessarily. She tends to have a good grasp on the emotional state of others. Not to the extent of Searchdragons, of course, but to a rather good extent for a high-ranked dragon.
The only trait she really seems to share with her rider is intelligence. Both are smart and quick-learning. What Kiiroth learns as a Weyrling, she will not forget, and she will be more than capable of commanding other dragons when the times arise. While she can sometimes come across as rather lofty (which is aided by her easy ability to give the credit for her ideas to others), she can easily prove herself to be an intelligent and observant dragon. Anyone who considered it would be most likely to believe this intelligence was what caused Kiiroth to go to Therion rather than anyone else, for they are startling different in most other ways. Therion's arrogant, commanding nature hardly seems to match with Kiiroth's more kind and compassionate one.
Even though the two are quite different from each other, they tend to have no trouble getting along. While Kiiroth does not agree with Therion's arrogance, she does understand it, and is partly glad that at least one of them contains that trait, as it is generally at least partially useful for a Queen pair, and with Kiiroth to add some gentleness to her rider's arrogance, they can together be rather effective. Kiiroth is like Therion's conscious in a way, there to remind her that there are others in the Weyr who she must consider, and not just herself. Therion, in the same way, cannot agree or really understand Kiiroth's constant consideration for others, as she feels they are above caring about them. However, she does not begrudge this from her dragon, and while she does not find it as useful as Kiiroth does, she does not attempt to change her dragon's nature. After all, she is smart enough to know that, without Kiiroth, she could not hope to be where she is today, and besides, she will forever love and respect the dragon (or so we think).
History: ((written by hbk)) When Suynie realized that there was an unnatural hush over the Hatching Cavern, she looked immediately to The Golden Cherry Blossom Egg which was rocking slowly from side to side.
It is time. Come forward, little one. Rhiannoth crooned proudly.
The shell practically peeled away, fluttering to the ground in beautiful, golden pink shards, like the petals of a flower. From the midst of the shell a beautiful, bright gold dragonet stepped forward. Her color was that of the sun at midday, brilliant and beautiful. While she was not the size that Rhiannoth or Elynth had been when they hatched, she was gloriously proportioned, and her fine pedigree could be seen in the graceful curve of her neck, and the triangular shape of her head.
"She's beautiful." Suynie murmured.
You expected something else? Rhiannoth retorted.
Regally the gold dragonet stepped forward, her eyes fixated on the group of girls anxiously waiting. She exuded confidence, and a calm demeanor.
Sareen stood closest, and for a moment the gold drew near to the girl, but only to brush past her, her tail creating a trail in the sand behind her. When one of her wingtips caught in the Sand the gold dragonet found herself momentarily off balance, and cast out her talons to steady herself. Only, her talons found their way into the soft flesh of Nayzarette, who buckled under the weight of the dragonet.
Do give her my apologies, my dear Therion. My wing got caught. The gold dragonet said as she stepped away from Nayzarette, who lay wounded on the Sands. Moving to Therion the dragonet brought her golden head down to look her new rider square in the eyes.

Dragon Info
Name: Kiiroth (kee-rah-th)
Color:Gold
Age: newly Hatched
Description:
- Brilliant, sunshine gold
- Large, thick, sturdy build
- Graceful despite size
- Mature size- 39.5 meters
- Incredibly polite
- Composed
- Quiet
- Thoughtful
- Empathetic (for a gold dragon, but not to the extent of blues and greens)
- Lofty/Airy
- Introspective
- Intelligent
- Not afraid to voice opinion, but does so in a way that makes you think it was your idea all along
