What would you like to be called OOC? SamIAm
Recruited by: Me
Email: wanderingmagelok@gmail.com
Character Info:
Name: A'lan of Green Felicath
Age: 18 turns old
Gender: Male
Rank: Weyrling
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Family: Father: Tedran (45), cotholder beholden to Refuge Weyr. Mother: Lissa (43), cotholder's wife, beholden to Refuge Weyr. Sister: Myrda (25), cotholder's wife, beholden to Refuge Weyr. Brother-in law: Bors (37), cotholder, beholden to Refuge Weyr.
Playby: Callum Blue
Appearance: A'lan stands at 5'9” and weighs in at 140 lbs. He's leanly muscled, more from hard labor than working out, meaning there's not much definition, but he's definitely fit. His head sports curly, short cropped, medium brown hair, thick eyebrows, a pointed nose and chin, defined cheekbones, and lively brown eyes. His ears stick out from the sides of his head, but aren't large, so the result tends to be more charming than Dumbo-esque, and his thin lipped mouth is always ready to smile, and constantly falling into a smirk. He has a nice dusting of body hair, and his skin, despite life in the sun, tends towards paleness, although he tans rather than burns most of the time. His chin usually has a bit of stubble, whether or not he's shaved that day (he usually has for all the good it does him).
A'lan's facial expressions tend towards being rather animated. It isn't that he can't be stoic—it's more that his emotions tend to burst out after a few moments of playing straight faced. He's hugely expressive, and tends to talk with large gestures and bizarre faces thrown in for emphasis. His mannerisms border on effeminate, but not flamboyantly so. When moving, A'lan tends to have a jovial bounce in his step, and is quite athletic.
His clothing tends towards function over fashion, mainly from growing up not having much. He tends to wear simple tunics and sturdy breeches and boots on most days. Still, he has an eye for making even simple garb look good, knowing where to belt and button (and unbutton) clothing so that he doesn't look like a potato sack wearing yokel. He's also not opposed to getting fancied up, but he doesn't have much clothing along those lines, so tends to save it for special occasions.
Personality: A'lan is an outgoing, funny, charming, and sweet young man. He's obviously had manners beaten into him from a young age, and is respectful of his elders, chivalrous, and generally helpful. He has a good work ethic and helps out without being asked. Perfect kid? Right? Well, for the most part, he is. However, he manages to avoid being a goody-two-shoes by having a nigh uncontainable zest for life and a quick wit coupled with a penchant for the dramatic and a love of being at or near the center of attention. He's also a bit naïve, and loves to be part of a group, meaning that he's pretty easy to pull one over on and tends to get into trouble for others (occasionally taking the blame even if it isn't his to take). He's a loyal, stalwart friend, and doesn't turn his back on people, talking to, befriending, and standing up for almost anyone, whether or not they return the favor.
At his core, he believes in standing up for what is right (although he's fully aware how subjective that can be which rankles him from time to time). He honestly tries to be the best person he can be, and if that involves taking a beating for someone else, then so be it. He's also a hopeless romantic, although he's more about it happening to him than actually being romantic towards someone else. A'lan also tends to see the good in people, rationalizing away flaws in their personalities quite easily.
One of his major flaws is that, while he's fast of mouth and body, he's not the brightest kid around. Sure, he learns his lessons well, but it's more out of stubborn determination to do his job as a dragonrider as well as he can than actual brains. Most of the time, he gets to the same place as everyone else in basically the same amount of time, but he's not a fan of puzzles, riddles, mathematics, or much of anything that requires overly large amounts of thinking. He's more action oriented. However, he does have a tendency to get lost in his head a bit, daydreaming about what he wants to do rather than doing it. Since he met Felicath, he hasn't had much time to dream off, but it still could happen from time to time.
Hobbies/Skills: Like many boys, A'lan's a big fan of searching for fire-lizard eggs. He's also rather active and likes hiking, climbing, swimming, and adventuring in general. Another one of his skills and favorite things is good banter. He'll fall into it with pretty much any partner, willing or unwilling. He's skilled at working a farm, and is relatively perceptive, quick with the quips, and dependable.
Pets: None.
History: A'lan was born Ailan, the humble son of cotholders residing in the shadow and protection of Refuge Weyr. His parents were good, hardworking, humble, salt of the earth types who raised him with a regimen of hard work, discipline, and love. His mother taught him and his sister their lessons at home, and, on festival days, holidays, and during planting and harvest, he played with the other children of the area. All in all, his childhood was pretty normal for a cotholder's son on the Southern Continent. He was raised with a deep reverence for the weyrs, and, one one occasion when he was eight, Ailan and his father had driven a herd of wherries to the weyr in time to witness a hatching.
That event left a deep impression on the young man, and he set his heart on becoming a dragonrider. While not an uncommon aspiration among the young cotholders, Ailan spent many an hour daydreaming off about when (never an if) he impressed a dragon. The same year he turned sixteen and his sister married a neighboring widower cotholder named Bors, Ailan found his dream nearly coming true. A bluerider came by his cothold on search and asked Ailan to come stand at hatching. Elated and heart in his mouth, Ailan left for Refuge Weyr, staying for nearly a week before hatching. He was nearly crushed when he failed to impress, and returned home despondent, resigned to just being a simple cotholder. After a few weeks, he threw himself into working with his father on the farm, taking his disappointment out by working until he fell into his bed exhausted and already asleep every night.
Two years later, another bluerider stopped by his farm on search, asking Ailan to revisit the weyr. His old longing to ride dragonback tore against his fear of being rejected a second time, and it took him a full day to decide to take the journey again, but take it he did, arriving only two days before the hatching. Standing on the hatching sands that day, Ailan watched as most of the clutch paired off before a dainty, ladylike green approached him, keening with hunger as she reached into his mind. Felicath was his and he was hers. In the following months, A'lan and Felicath have been learning their weyrling lessons and mostly keeping out of trouble around the hold. Even though on an intellectual level, A'lan knows that it wouldn't happen, he's so happy about finally being a dragonrider and being with Felicath that he doesn't want to do anything to give them an excuse to kick him out.
Dragon Info*
Name: Felicath
Color: Green
Age: Newly Hatched 1260
Description: A maiden like green with her dainty, refined head and seemingly delicate features, Felicath is in many ways a lady. She has a small, compact body, with long graceful looking wings and slightly long legs. She carries her head high whenever she walks as if trying to balance a book on top of it. Felicath cares very much about her appearance and will always show people her better side (which is whatever side she perceives to be better). She will grow to be around 20.4 meters.
Her coloring is a few shades darker than true green. By no means the darkest green around but she is easily noted based on her body shape instead. She has some markings that are hard to see from far away. Firstly her head knobs start at the bottom as the same color as her hide then get lighter until reaching the tops. The color also fades from where her tail connects to her body all the way to the tip which is a very light green. Her claws are pearly white and average sized.
Personality: Much like her appearance, this little green is quite the chivalrous lady. She is respectful of those who deserve it and even of other dragons the same rank as herself. She is sociable, chit chatting with other greens and blues . Her demeanor is always kind and sweet. Felicath is accommodating to just about everyone and will do what she can to make them feel comfortable around her. When it comes to making decisions she has trouble. Why can't someone else decide?? Flipping a coin might be a good idea, it will certainly get results faster.
She wants to be a fair and just dragon. Treating everyone as they deserve to be treated. When talking about issues that others seem to be a bit on edge about, she tries to be as diplomatic as possible. She would hate to offend anyone. Felicath is appreciative of the arts. This includes anything from music to home decorating. She has a great eye for pretty things and knows when something or someone looks good from a long way off.
History: There isn't much of it, but here goes. Upon hatching, Felicath chose A'lan as her rider, sensing a kindred spirit in the kindly boy. The two have set out to be the best team they can be, and work hard to be model dragon and rider. She is very excited to begin flying, and, despite her well grounded demeanor, is impatient to start doing so, partially because she wants to fly with her rider.
