As each name was called out, the candidates crammed into the classroom shifted and being as small as he was, Tschermak found himself herded around the room as he simply struggled to not be stepped on by the largest of the candidates who didn’t even seem bothered that he was standing there. When his own name was called out, he was flushed to find that he had been successfully herded from the back of the room to the front, so he held out his hand to accept the scroll for his group before glancing around to find Rhodri and Therion. Rhodri had been the one who had called upon him, despite not knowing his name and Therion… well he knew Therion. She was one to speak her mind, and it was not always positive. She knew she was going to impress a Gold dragon one day and because of that she knew she was better than the rest of the candidates. After all, they were destined to lesser colored dragons, or no dragons at all – as was his own case. Either way, she was the last one he wanted to upset by fumbling with their lesson. Offering the scroll to whomever might want to take it, Tschermak simply knew he did not want to be the one deciding which on the list they crossed off first. After all, he’d make the wrong choice and anger Therion, or even upset Rhodri, who he knew next to nothing of. If he had as bad a temper as the woman did, well…. It would be better if he just did as he was told and did it quickly.

There was a new task set before the Candidates. They were going to find people and talk to them because they were important. He knew what a Weyrleader was and a Weyrwoman but he didn’t know any of the people. As they went through the list of Candidates he grew anxious. At first he was disappointed that he had not been placed with someone he knew but he quickly realized that this was on purpose. They were being split up so that they would work with people they did not know and get to know them as well as learn new things about the Weyr. He was also kind of glad he was placed with Tschermak, he felt he should be looking out for the boy. Since leaving his siblings behind, the older brother in him was feeling the need to be there for someone.
Not being from the Weyr had its advantages and its disadvantages. Disadvantages being that he had no earthly idea who any of the aforementioned people were that they needed to find. Advantages, he had no idea that he had been paired up with the quietest boy in the Weyr and the scariest female Candidate in the Weyr. At the moment they were both blank slates though he could tell already, Tschermak was a nervous youth and that he expected Therion to take the lead. The young woman seemed to be just the type to do so. She wanted to be in charge if only because she believed she was better than the rest of them. Normally it wouldn’t irk him too much to let a girl lead but he wasn’t too thrilled about the attitude of this particular woman.
That thought was on his mind when he looked down at the scroll and then at Therion. “Ladies first.” He said in a quiet manner. She wanted control and he’d be more than happy to let her lead the way. Besides he didn’t know where to find any of those people. Where would one find a Weyrleader? He’d suggest they split up to get more done more quickly but that would defeat the purpose of meeting all the people on the list and he had very little idea where things were here. After a moment he looked back at Therion, “Where to first?” It mattered little to him. He didn’t consider himself much of a leader but he wasn’t the sort to be pushed around either.

As if pointless true-or-false games weren't bad enough, now she had to run around talking to people she had probably seen previously. The good news was that she hadn't been stuck with any of those girls foolish enough they would be taking her dragon. She didn't really know either of the boys she was with, but as long as they didn't try to argue with her this would probably go just fine. Therion made no attempt to move to the front and be the one to grab the scroll. One of the other two could do it and then she could just take it from them. She was the oldest of the group, after all. That had to give her some kind of seniority. Besides, neither of them were going to be a Weyrwoman eventually. Or even a Weyrleader, most likely. They hardly struck her as Bronze material.
But whatever. All she had to do was get through this silly lesson, and hopefully those two boys would make it as painless as possible. One of the boys had the scroll already, and she was trying to figure out a partly-polite way to take it from him, but Rhodri offered it to her without blinking.
Wonderful. They were off to a nice start already. "Okay, let's see..." she muttered, looking at the list, but stopping on the third thing down and staring in disbelief.
No. No no no no no no no no. She was not going to looking for the girl that had stolen her dragon. Therion didn't care what anyone thought or how they might punish her for it, but she was not going to go there. This whole thing was silly, but that was simply asking too much. Tscher-boy and Rhodri could go if they wanted, but she would not be tagging along. She already knew that.
"Well, I'm not talking to Marlaey," Therion stated plainly, "but the rest looks simple enough. I wouldn't mind talking to Sakorai first. She is Weyrwoman, after all." Plus, she was going to have to get used to Therion eventually. Might as well get herself introduced now so she wouldn't be such a shock later. With Thread the threat that it was, there was no way there couldn't be a Gold egg soon enough. And that one would most definitely be her dragon. No mistakes this time.
