<<I need all Candidates; old, new, northern, southern, weyrbrats and crafters - who are interested in standing for Issarith's or Rhiannoth's Clutch to show up and be present. If you are still in a search thread, PM me or jump in anyways as if you had just gotten to the Weyr.>>With a clutch freshly upon the sands as well as another quickly on its way, S’nuo knew that his work was ready to consume him. Add to that the new use of searchriders in the North bringing him more candidates in preparations for not one, but TWO clutches and for the first time the bluerider was finding himself with a rather full candidate roster for the first time since taking up his position as Candidate Master. If the searchriders continued to have this much success in the North, S’nuo was going to need an assistant. The very thought of that made his head hurt. Looking over his neat pile of papers upon his desk, S’nuo sighed again. He needed to request leave of his Wingrider duties – at least a few more days a week – to keep up with the candidates. The ones who were born in the Weyr were not a problem, it was the holdbred and the Northern that were at a lost of what to keep their hands busy with during their free time. Which, from the complaints he was getting from the lowercavern women, was not going to work for long. Finding the current list of candidates that was, in truth, a mess of scribbles in both his hand as well as several other’s as names were added and crossed out carelessly. Well. That was going to be the first bit of business. The last thing he wanted to do was to tell this spit-fire tempered Weyrwoman that he did not have a neat list for her. Nor did he wish to see how the Jr. Weyrwoman would take it when no list was produced for her clutch in pristine condition. In fact, working with either Weyrwomen was something he wasn’t keen upon in the current circumstances. Taking that parchment with him, he stepped out of his office and into the common room of the Candidate Barracks where he spotted three candidates in the room and immediately pounced. “I need the three of you to round up the rest of your comrades. We have a lesson in the Candidate Classroom. In half a candlemark. If anyone is missing, the three of YOU will get latrine duty. Understood?” Hearing their moans as they got to their feet, S’nuo couldn’t help but laugh. “Just make sure everyone is there.” Quickly they filed out in various directions before S’nuo grabbed the sleeve of the last one. “And stop by the Headwoman’s Office. Let her know S’nuo requests her eligible Weyrbrats for the afternoon to attend the class as well and any drudges still young enough to stand. If they are eligible and interested in being a candidate, they have half a candlemark to make it to the classroom.”Seeing them nod and run off, S’nuo snorted to himself before making his own way to the classroom to clean the writing board and prepare his writing implements.

.:: Candidate Kethemar ::.Northern Candidate
Kethemar had been lounging quite peacefully on his little cot in the Candidate Barracks. He'd completed his chores that day, which had included cleaning the Dining Hall. While it had been a lot of work, Kethemar found it easier with the information he'd gleaned from Shamara the last time he'd spoken with the dark-haired Candidate. She'd certainly known, down to the last speck of dust, how to get the Dining Hall sparkling clean. While he was still feeling a definite withdrawal from not having been around the beautiful ocean waters in what felt like a lifetime, Kethemar felt that he was finally settling into his role as a Candidate at Refuge.
Well, at least he had felt that way until S'nuo came bursting into the Candidate Barracks. Since Kethemar had been just on the verge of slipping off into a nap, the booming voice caught him off guard and he bolted upright and cracked his forehead on the bunk above him.
"Fraggit!" He hissed as he rubbed a hand over the quickly developing bump on his forehead.
Glaring daggers at the bunk over his head, Kethemar pointedly ducked his head and slithered out of his cot. Gaining his feet, the Candidate responded immediately to the dragonrider's instructions and struck off, out of the Candidate Barracks, to round up some of the other Candidates. He knew that some of the Candidates had been chosen to head off with the lower caverns workers and pick some of the numbweed plant that would later be boiled into the salve that the healers used in the infirmary.
With a plan to swoop by the lower caverns, and then head to the Candidate Classroom, Kethemar left the Barrack with one hand still pressed to his forehead.

Shamara was just entering the giros barracks when she saw S'nuo enter the boy's side. He spoke loud enough for her to hear him say they were to go to the Candidate Classroom. Rolling her eyes she entered the room to see a few girls. "S'nuo wants us all to go to the classroom right away." She told the girls as she headed across the room to her bed. She wanted to at least change her clothes before going. She managed to get food spilled all over herself when she decided to help a drudge take a few huge pots over to the wash basin. They both wore some of the oily contents. Grabbing a clean shirt she headed for the bathing chamber. After stripping off her shirt, she grabbed a wash cloth and some sweet sand. She scrubbed herself quickly but well. Feeling better, she put her clean shirt on and headed back into the barracks.
As she headed to her bunk she was passing Tishu. The girl was fast asleep. Shamara felt sorry for the girl, she looked so tired, she never complained and was so helpful Shamara hated to wake her. "Tishu, wake up. We need to go to the classroom, hurry now." Shamara said as she gently shook the sleeping girls shoulder.
"Huh?" Tishu answered coming awake instantly her eyes flying open. She had been dreaming of her flight to the Weyr when Shamara shook her. Sitting up she rubber her eyes. "I'm sorry I must have dozed off. Did you say we needed to go back to class?" She asked the dark haired girl.
"Yes, S'nuo wants us all to go there. If you hurry I'll walk with you if you want." Shamara replied smiling.
"I'd like that." Tishu replied. "I'll go wash my face real quick and then I'm ready to go." She added as she rushed off to the bathing chamber. Once she got there she used the latrine and quickly washed her face. Coming back into the room she noticed Shammy was indeed waiting for her. "I'm ready if you are." Tishu said as she walked up to the waiting girl.
"Great, lets go." Shammy said as they headed out the door. "Race ya...last one there is a dimglow!" Shamara said as she took of on a dead run. Tishu right behind her laughing. Life at the Weyr was good and Tishu loved being here.

NayzaretteNortherner Candidate It had barely been perhaps a sevenday since her arrival along with Rhodri to Refuge Weyr, though the girl had done a remarkable job to get her hands full as soon as humanly possible. After all, Nayzarette had never been one to sit around wasting time; so when the girl wasn’t aiding out with the herdbeast (quite glad to see that women here could do much of the same roles as men did) or helping out in the lower cavern’s kitchens, sometimes even helping with the younger weyrbrats in the Crèche, Nayza could be found with her nose buried deep on as many scrolls about dragons, their riders and their history as she could get her hands on – with permission of course.
She had just been returning from the breeding pens of the herdbeasts after aiding out in cleaning the area, the girl intending on having a nice scrub to remove the sweat and dirt from her skin, when she noticed the large group of candidates moving in the same direction. It hadn’t been until she had inquired to a couple that she had finally found out what was going on, a faint curse leaving her dainty lips before she rushed to the female wing of the Candidate Barracks. With no time to spare she picked up a clean cloth, moistened slightly in water, to at least wash her arms, neck and face somewhat, before a change of clothing was quickly tossed over herself.
She could go and bathe after the lesson, already the brunette figured she had to be running late – judging by the lack of life forms left in the barracks themselves.
Rushing out she quickly managed to catch up with some of the last strugglers, a few weyrbrats themselves, before also making her way into the classroom along with the other candidates being considered for this current clutch. Said clutch had been laid overnight but a couple of days ago now, the eggs now finally on the sand making the Weyr buzz with lots of activity and gossiped whispers. Spotting an all too familiar face a grin lighted up Nayzarette’s features, the Keroon born holdgirl heading over to stand besides her childhood friend, Rhodri.
”I have to say... I’m quite excited about this. You?”
This was their first official candidate class since they had arrived from being searched, after all.

Sometimes the boy really had to wonder if their nightly raid of that flitter clutch had been worth it; at all. With a grimace the blond turned from the last piece of leather gear he had been cleaning, left as spotless and impeccable as the rest, to focus his attention on the small and murky colored flitter that had winked into existence besides him without warning. Well, aside from her shrieking – though Hinuk was more to used to it by now.
”Whatcha want, Shrieker? I’m busy.”
A loud snort was given by the green as she latched herself to the shirt covering the young boy’s shirt – Hinuk could swear himself the damn flitter dug her sharp claws into his skin on purpose – before shrieking once more and nipping at the blond strands of hair covering the boy’s neck somewhat; he really did need to get a haircut soon. A vast pain of hunger was suddenly transmitted to the young weyrbrat, making him drop the piece of gear in his hand as he doubled over slightly, his arms wrapping around his middle section, before he glared daggers at the young green flitter that had curried over towards his neck now.
”Bastard, I bet you ain’t even that hungry.”
Another shriek, and a nip to the ear now, finally got the blond male moving towards the lower caverns and their kitchens. Really, sometimes he wondered why that damn egg couldn’t have been a dud...
”Arrow!” “Hey, Dash.”
It was by a grace from Faranth herself that the boy had come in contact with his old friend, both boys sharing equally large grins as they bumped fists in greetings. Since their official promotion to Candidates for future clutches in Refuge both boys had been busy beyond belief with chore after chore – Hinuk and Thoran were both in agreement that it was probably Emera extracting back her vengeance for their prank on her Orlai and her past clutch of eggs. Aside from the weekends the boys shared with D’seus; Hinuk’s father and as of recent Thoran’s legal caretaker as well, the leaders of the Brat Pack had been near unable to meet with their other members – much less cause any type of mischief around the Weyr.
Belior himself, the bronze flitter that had bonded to Thoran, was currently curled around the neck of his second in command – the mellow and calm flitter giving a faint warble of greeting to acknowledge Hinuk and Shrieker before continuing to lazy around his human’s shoulders. Greetings exchanged (and some prompting from that ever annoying green menace on Hinuk’s own shoulder) both lads had moved to grab some plates and stuff them with as much food as their stomachs could hold – and then some extra for their pets.
The meal itself was mostly uneventful, Hinuk certain to busy his green with as much fresh meat as he could in order to gain some peace and quiet to enjoy with his friend; as well as actually be able to savor his lunch. The meal itself was distinctly calm and uneventful, the boys at some point joined by other younger brats of their pack as they had come to the lower caverns in the search for food themselves. It wasn’t until one of the older candidates burst into the place, announcing loudly Candidate Master S’nuo’s new instructions, that Hinuk groaned in displeasure – both him and Thoran rising from their seats.
Goodbyes given, and some meatrolls stowed away in leather pouches as later snacks for their flitters, both thirteen turn old weyrbrats quickly made their way out of the lower caverns and soon arrived to the classroom in question. Without missing a beat the blond had strode to sit at the head of the group of other, some much older, candidates; followed after a few hesitant seconds by his right hand and best friend, Thoran. Both flitter were each laying about now, fluttering away from the two boys to lie close to a small table by a corner of the room to preen and sleep their meal away.

Tschermak, like the other two Weyrbrats now trekking toward the Candidate Classroom, had been in the Weyrhall at the time of the announcement, though it was no surprise to anyone he had been bullied into cleaning out one of the many hearths around the chamber. Covered from head to toe in soot, he had to nearly beg a nearby working for a clean wet cloth to wipe off his face and arms before he ran after them. Falling in several steps behind the two other Weyrbrats, he recognized them as from the Bratpack and made doubly sure to keep his distance. Too often they had let blame fall on him for their pranks weither they actually knew that or not. But when Tschermak never really stood up for himself, it was no surprise that the Lowercavern Women found it easy to just give him the extra chores of clean up. He couldn’t help but swear to himself that being a candidate would be different, but down in his gut he knew that he would probably never change – and if he didn’t, was there a point in being a candidate? Besides his feline Mismatch and a few oddball folks around the caverns, most didn’t even know his name. And what dragon would want to befriend a nobody? Espcially when they had Hinuk and Thoran to choose from? Two Weyrbrats who had already proven their worth (despite their stunts) by impressing Flitters? By the time he followed them into the Candidate Classroom, the boy was perfectly disheartened and stood against a back wall, unwilling to sully one of the chairs with his filthy clothes. Besides, there was a surprising amount of people already gathering in there. At this rate there wouldn’t be enough chairs anyways. Perhaps rather than pretending to be a candidate he should have been drudging them some chairs to sit in…

Since coming to the Weyr, Rhodri’s life had changed completely in many ways but in many others was very much the same. The worst part of leaving home was not leaving the familiarity of the place but more the people. Among the other Candidates he considered himself fairly ordinary. He was not the oldest nor the youngest among them and his more quiet nature left him without the number of friends he had in the North. Eventually he would make many lasting friendships but for right now it seemed Nayza was the only one he really knew anything about.
The best thing about the Weyr, other than the constant supply of food, was that he was still able to work with runners. They had lost some of the knowledge about genetics and training which Rhodri had known about since a young boy. He was learning and they were learning. The exchange of knowledge made him more comfortable in the unknown. Change had never been his favorite thing.
Despite this, he was ready for the new adventure of being a Candidate. Being a dragonrider was not something he had put much thought before he was Searched. Since then he had thought about it quite frequently. He was on his way back from the Stables where he had been finishing off his chores for the day when he was approached by his fellow Candidates. A lesson? He wondered what a Candidate lesson consisted of. Unlike most people, Rhodri did not give much thought as to how he might look and smell. He grew up around runners so the smell was normal to him as was being dirty most of the time. He didn’t think being washed up would change anyone’s opinion of him anyway.
He walked at an easy pace. Like everything else about him, Rhodri walked casually. He was in no rush because he was halfway to the Barracks already. He was not usually one to stress over little things like being late. What would be would be and that was all there was to it. The big changes in life made him nervous but other than that he was rather laid back about life in general.
When he finally sauntered into class he stood by himself waiting to see what this was all about. More and more Candidates found their way to class. Rhodri could not help but think a few of the boys were very young. They had to be more than three Turns younger than Rhodri. Did the Weyr allow such young boys to Stand? The age range must be huge. Logically it must make sense, the more Candidates the more dragons would impress and more dragons was a good thing.
The air changed as another person approached. Nayza was obviously excited which in turn made him smile. Too bad little bird had to miss this. She would have given anything to change positions with him now. He spoke quietly so that the other Candidates wouldn’t hear him, “I wonder what it will be about?” Being from the North anything dragon would be new to him and therefore a good lesson.

Trelia was laying down on her bed after helping down in the lower caverns when one of the other candidates ran in to tell them to get to the classroom. Her body ached from all the work that she'd endured of late and begrudgingly she climbed down out of the bunk bed. When she looked up at the bunk bed the candidate smiled it was one of the benefits of being her the longest having a top bed. She put on her boots then quickly put her long hair back in a ponytail and then went to join the others for the lesson. Her clothes we're a bit dirty with a long brown shirt that hung to her mid thigh and black leather pants. When she entered the room there was already a collection of candidates from those recently searched in the north to weyrbrates. She didn't really have much use for either because it meant more competition for these clutches of eggs. Trelia had been what she called a leftover from last turn and she wanted to impress more then anything. If she was left standing a second time the girl wondered if her heart could take another disappointment. Her eyes scanned the room for a place to seat down and found a seat off to the side of everyone else. The young woman just waited for the lesson to begin as she thought about how these eggs we're a welcome addition. When Gold Elynth rose which would most likely coincide with the graduation with the weyrlings graduating she had to smile. In her heart the young woman hoped that her future soul mate was in the eggs to be laid and there would most likely be three clutches of eggs in the future to give her a chance. ............................................................................................. Quelas had been helping down in the records room which was something that had interested him since he'd started helping down there the last few months. The older candidate had wanted something to do besides the usual set of chores and had sought out extra responsibility to take his mind off impressing. He'd been trying to rewrite a ancient script when he heard that the candidates we're suppose to meet in the candidate classroom. The young man sighed because it meant just another lesson that he'd already heard the last two times. It was with a heavy sigh that he put down the scroll then started to walk towards the classroom as the weyrbrates passed him. A smile escaped his lips because this would be the first time some of them would be standing and remembered his own excitement of the first time. When he'd been left standing the young man had just thought that his life mate awaited him in the next clutch it was not to be. He went in the classroom to see a few other people had already arrived and he just leaned back against a wall with folded arms. The young man knew that the eggs had been laid and in them might be his life mate and yet it might not be. Quelas wondered if the dragnets could read the fear in his heart because he did fear turning out like his father who had died in a training accident on his brown dragon. The young man would stand for the next two clutches and if he didn't impress then he was leaving the weyr because he couldn't stand the disappointment any longer. His eyes wondered over the children because that is what most of the candidates happened to be and he thought about the eggs. If he could just impress and have the chance to be a rider the color didn't matter to him. The color preference did rest on one thing he would love a deep chocolate just like his father's and he waited for the lesson to begin. ................................................................................................ Raelan was helping some of the weyrlings to clean their dragons when a candidate came with the announcement that they we're all to meet at the candidate room. He said, "I've got to go," to the weyrlings and then ran to get his shirt and pants that we're laying on the shore. When he'd dried off enough as not to drag water into the classroom and then got dressed fearing that he'd be late. The young man wanted to make a good impression on the candidate master because any wrong move and he feared being banned from the sands. His confidence in impressing had decreased as the last few times had left him not impressing and he came into the room to see most of the other people had already arrived. While he just sort of hung out in the middle of the group of people and noticed how much younger a lot of them happened to be. He saw that a few new people had joined the usual group and figured it must be the candidates from the north. A few new ones had started to trickle in and he hoped that they all impressed though it would not happen. The clutches had been smaller with each queen even with thread falling in the north and he figured it had to do with something that the queens knew that they didn't. If they didn't really sense any danger for them down here and sighed. A few whisperings we're going on as he could clearly see the different groups forming with northerners, weyrbrates, and then the ones like himself had never impressed .

Most of the Weyr was quite pleased with the recent laying of Issarith's clutch on the hatching sands. After all, they could use as many dragonriders as possible now with Thread falling. This did not, however, mean that everyone was pleased. Therion certainly wasn't. It just meant her life was going to get that much harder until she finally Impressed the little Queen she deserved. Unfortunately, the rest of the Weyr still cared the same no matter what. Of course they did, they welcomed all dragons, no matter what, and they didn't care what Therion thought. Her opinion of the Weyr was bad enough at that point that she was expected some sort of ridiculous lesson planning by their Candidate Master soon enough.
So it was hardly a surprise to her when someone came running by her in the Candidate Barracks, declaring they had a lesson they had to get too at that moment. Naturally, it had too be right away. And if any of them even dared to think of being late, they would be punished. Therion didn't particularly care about that at the moment, she was simply too annoyed and depressed at how much worse her life was going to be until these hatchings were over.
S'nuo was sure to keep her from standing for any Gold egg if she didn't show up though, so she was obligated to show up to this lesson, no matter how little she might want too. Everyone else would be there anyways, so she might as well just pretend to be sociable, not that anyone there was going to hold her interest.
This lesson was probably more important for the people who had never stood before anyways, but at least that meant she would know everything. And, hopefully, she would only have to sit through this nonsense of being a Candidate for a little while longer.

Sareen breathed in and out before entering the classroom as this would be her first day meeting the other candidates. She'd only arrived a few days ago after being searched in the north and she was already very nervous. The few people that she'd already meet we're nice enough yet a bit shy around her. It made Sareen think that it had to do with her being new and the others had been here for a long time. When she entered the room her eyes fell upon a all the people that had already arrived. "I'm late," said Sareen with a sigh as she admitted to oversleeping to catch up on all the sleep that she lost from the excitement of coming here the first day. She stood in the middle of the room as she didn't know anyone and counted all the candidates. Her mind thought about the dragon eggs and how a few of them would be disappointed because there weren't enough of them. Sareen hoped that she wasn't left standing on the sands and still couldn't believe that she'd been chosen. When the dragon riders had spotted her traveling that day with her family it had all just got rolling from there. She'd been offered the chance to stand on the sands and impress a egg. The young woman had been thinking as to what color that she desired and her only thought was that she just wanted to impress. Her thoughts we're cut short as someone started to speak loud and she still couldn't get used to the outgoing people at the weyr. It was the great dragons that seemed to scare her at first and she still couldn't get near one without whimpering a bit in fear. Sareen thought that the others knew how wimpy she was acting and she just tried to smile in order to at least appear brave.

Shammy noticed as a young woman entered the classroom. She nudged Tishu who also turned to look. Standing up, Tishu spoke loudly. "There is a empty seat over here Sareen if you would like to come sit." She said. Tishu remembered meeting her when she first came into the barracks. Being new herself she knew how it felt.
Shammy noticed her when she came in from runner stable chores, normally she would have introduced herself but being a bit stinky and filthy sent her to the bathing chamber first. When she came out the new girl had slipped her mind. It was a good thing her bunk was near the entrance to the bathing chambers. Shammy had fallen asleep almost as soon as her head hit her pillow.

S’nuo looked around at the growing crowd of faces as he did a quick, rough count of how many were there and exactly how he wanted to split up the group. Even as he counted, however, he frowned and couldn’t quite decide if this was everyone or if there were still a few straggling behind. He also couldn’t quite decide which answer he would prefer. Then warm up with something while you fix your list and wait a bit more for others. There are times I love you, Malith.I should hope you always love me, S’nuo.Technicalities.“Alright, listen up. We are going to do some brief introductions before we start our lesson for today. I see a lot of new faces around and I’m sure nobody has managed to meet everyone yet. So starting with you, Meister Raelan, I want to do a little exercise.”“First, Stand up and state your name and your age. Then I want you to tell us two things about yourself – I want one of those statements to be true, and one of those statements to be false. Then I want you to tell us the name of another candidate in the room. That candidate gets to guess at which statement was the TRUE statement. Then it is their turn.”Giving Raelan a nod, he knew the young man well. He’d been here through a number of hatchings now and S’nuo could not help but toy with the idea of offering the young man a position as a candidate assistant despite the lack of a dragon. He knew the ins and outs of the program by now and while it would be a disappointment to see such a fine man never impress, it would give Raelan purpose.

Raelan turned to the candidate master when he started to talk and listened to him explain what was going to happen. He was a little taken back when he was directly addressed and then stood up to look at all the others in the room. His stature showed that he'd recently had a growth spurt which allowed him to see eye level with most men in the weyr. A clearing of his throat because he wasn't the best in crowds then looked at what he considered competition to impress then got ready to speak. "My name is Raelan and I'm sixteen," said Raelan as he moved his weight from one foot to another. When he got ready to speak again after thinking for a few moments then said, "I've two older sisters and I've stood for past clutches at the weyr,". When he looked around at the others for a moment and his eyes rested on Nayzarette. The smile on his face thought it would be fun to have one of the girls go next then he said, "Nayzarette,". He didn't know her that well however figured that she'd be good to continue this exercise.
.....................................................................................................
Sareen turned to hear a voice then spotted to young girls that she hadn't really meet and smiled a small smile. She thought for a quick second there we're no other offers and she just nodded her head then took the seat next to the other two girls. "Thanks," said Sareen as she smiled at the other girls and then waited for their lesson to begin. The scene was overwhelming with all the new people because she'd grown up with just her family. Her eyes wandered over the vast range of people that seemed to start with young children to young adults. She guessed that it was good for there to be a large selection of people for the dragons.
She was listening the instructions as it seemed they'd be introducing themselves first and she started to think over the questions. Her first thoughts we're that she could talk about her family and life in the north because most of the people here had no idea about it. The weyrfolk had been fortunate with their abundance of food and lack of thread that seemed to fall on them. The loss of her parents to thread had nearly destroyed her and she had only survived because of her sisters who would join her eventually down her. If she was lucky enough to impress that would really make her sisters proud.

NayzaretteNortherner Candidate ”I suppose lessons about dragons and how to care for them?” She spoke back to her friend just as softly, keeping their conversation among them both as they waited and watched more people drift into the classroom. It made sense in Nayza’s mind that they would start to get more lessons on dragons; after all it was no secret that a lot of northerners had already been searched, and who knew how many more might end up here. The knowledge the brunette herself had was quite limited to old and half damaged scrolls back in Keroon Hold; but her father had first started by teaching her about runners and how to properly care for them when he had unofficially started the girl in her apprenticeship turns ago.
Surely there couldn’t be that much of a difference between how lessons for the Beastcraft were planned and these Candidate lessons. After all, runners and dragons were both living creatures that (regardless of their abilities) would not perform to their fullest if not properly looked after... right?
The man in charge of the lesson had soon proceeded to explain their next step of their current lesson – an introduction which seemed reasonable given the circumstances, though his twist at the end was quite interesting once Nayzarette caught up to it. She had been just pondering what to say herself when the first male spoke up, the girl turning her attention towards Raelan as he introduced himself and gave his two statements; so far quite the normal thing. However, as the stranger called out her name the northerner girl couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow just slightly in pondering, she was sure she hadn’t come across him much aside from perhaps once here or there since her arrival. How he knew her full name was quite the mystery, she was sure she’d mostly introduced herself to a few of the other candidates by her shortened version to keep matters simpler between them all.
”aside from our teacher, and Rhodri of course, as well as the riders that brought us here I don’t think I’ve told others my full name... So he must have been here for a long time.”
As the girl made her analysis she judged the two statements the slightly older male had offered, weighting them out one last time before nodding slightly. Taking a step forth to catch the attention now, it was her turn after all, the brunette spoke loud and clear for the others to hear her without much of a problem. ”I believe your first statement, about two older sisters, is the false one Raelan.” It was simply the more logic of the two option, only people that would have been here for a long time might have a chance to hear news from dragonriders (or at least Nayzarette thought that would be the case) and the way the teacher himself had quickly singled the young man out to start made her logic lean heavily on the decision that he, simply, must have indeed passed through this quite a few times before. Waiting just enough to hear if she was correct, or incorrect, Nayza then gave a faint nod in acknowledgement before continuing with her introduction.
”I’m Nayzarette, though you may all call me Nayza; a fifteen turn old from Keroon Hold in the North Continent.” That out she took a few precious moments to think of two statements, before proceeding loud and clear just like at the beginning. ”I have a baby brother; and my cousin Rhodri here.” She made sure to point in the direction of the male in question, giving a playful wink, before looking at the large group of people in the classroom. It could be considered a bit unfair, seeing as they both had only just arrived barely less than a sevenday ago into the weyr, so the chances of people being able to tell which of the two was a lie might be a bit harder considering they were (basically) strangers. But then again there really wasn't much point in a lesson, for Nayza wanted to believe the older man indeed had a point to be making them tell one truth and one lie and that this all wasn't just a time filler exercise, if things were too easy to guess out.
A particular girl stuck out in her mind from a recent chore; her whining had been all but pleasant throughout their cleaning of the herdbeast pens, and so Nayzarette decided to call her out.
”Therion, if you will?”

It was a while before everyone had arrived in the room, and Therion forced herself to wait, not that this was too hard in particular. After everyone had arrived, S'nuo started the lesson. And of course, he couldn't start out with just the lesson. Oh no, they had to start with "introductions" which always meant they had to play a game of some sort, didn't they? It would just be too absurdly simple for them to just announce themselves, now wouldn't it? Now they had to 'guess the true statement' as well, and obviously messing up would make them look bad in a situation where it normally wouldn't.
Well, at least she had the advantage of knowing a good number of the Candidates here. Raelan was first, and it was pretty obvious which of his statements was correct. Therion almost hoped he would pick her so she could get this over with, but he picked one of the annoying girls who had just shown up instead. Therion didn't care about her in the slightest, as long as she didn't seem like she would be competition for Therion's dragon.
She didn't know the girl at all, so of course she didn't know the answer to either of her statements. Which, of course, meant the girl had to choose her. Because why not? Why should Therion get the easy way out of this? No, everyone else was going too, but definitely not her.
Or maybe this silly girl thought she could possibly be competition for Therion's dragon, thought that she could be good enough to be worthy of a Queen. That was absurd, since she obviously wouldn't be, but now this was like a test. She had to get this right or she wouldn't appear like someone worthy of it either. This wasn't even a game anymore, it was a competition, and she had to be right. So Therion huffed once and being called out and then narrowed eyes to study Nayzarette (and what a long, pointless name it was).
The statement about the young brother could easily be true. That might even be why the girl had decided to leave home, just to get away from the annoyance that was a younger sibling. There was no other way to verify that statement, however so Therion had to leave it.
Then there was this potential cousin of hers, Rhodri. For that, Therion would have to think about what she knew about life in Holds. People in Holds usually had a craft of some sort, right? But siblings probably didn't really stay together, especially after becoming journeymen. So even if Nayza's parents had had other siblings, and even if they had gone into the same craft, they probably would have been invariably separated, right? So unless some odd circumstances had cause Rhodri to live with or near Nayza, then there was no good reason to assume he was her cousin, right?
Of course, they could simply be cousins that didn't know each other well, but if they lived in separate places (which Therion had already ascertained as most likely for cousins, seeing as she never saw any of hers) then the chances of dragons finding and bringing both of them to Refuge weren't really that high. And besides, they probably wouldn't know each other at all then, and if Nayza didn't know her cousin well, then why would she wink at him? As far as Therion knew, you only winked at someone if you knew them well, she could just have easily indicated him with a wave or a nod of the head. To Therion, winking indicated she knew him a bit better than that, so they had probably lived in the same place.
Going off of the assumption that cousins wouldn't live in the same place, he obviously wasn't her cousin. Therion smiled to herself after she reached this conclusion. And Nayza probably thought she had her fooled didn't she?
Now completely certain that she was correct, Therion straightened up and announced, "Rhodri's not your cousin, obviously." Then she turned to think about her own introduction. "I'm Therion (pointless to say, as she had just been announced as such anyways), and I'm eighteen Turns old now."
As for these statements, well, she needed to think on it. Nayza's statements had been so unfair it was probably that they went to someone who could work that sort of thing out. Hers ought to be easier, or at least something that someone who had been there before would know. This whole thing was pointless, and she didn't need to make it more difficult.
"I don't have family at the Weyr, and I've stood for two hatchings so far." Obvious enough, as if anyone would want to go to the Weyr because they knew someone there. Quite silly, but then S'nuo was the one forcing this on them, if he wanted intelligent statements he could think of something actually intelligent for them to do.
Now she just had to pick someone. Someone she didn't really see as a threat, and who shouldn't have too much of a problem with this (not that anyone with enough logic would). Also, she just wanted to be done, and didn't really care who went next.
"Trelia."
