Tishu was beat, what a day this had been. One minute she was riding her runner Sugarfoot, and the next she was riding on a beautiful green dragon on her way to Refuge Weyr. The flight was wonderful. She loved looking at her home from so far up in the sky. It looked so different up there. She loved flying, it didn't bother her at all. Even the dark cold of between didn't scare her.
When they popped back in from between over the Weyr, the shear size of it took her breath away. It was amazing, there were so many dragons in one place, more then she could have imagined.
Once they landed she was instructed on who to go see and in what order. It didn't work that way. Another Candidate saw her landing and whisked her off to the head woman where she got new clothes, bedding and boots. From there she was taken to the barracks where she chose her bunk and put her things away. She couldn't believe how busy and big everything was here.
Now that she had bathed and changed into clean clothes, she was going to need food and to find the Weyrling Master. She was told she could find this person in the dining caverns soon for meal time. She was told she could go there any time, but supper was in an hour. She decided she would stretch out on her bunk for awhile then go. She saw the map someone had posted on the bulliton board on her way into the barracks.
Sighing softly, she fell fast asleep. That's where the Candidates returning from daily chores found her. It was almost supper time for them too.

For Therion, at least, this day had been like any other day: wake up, do chores, be miserably alone, do more chores, go to bed whilst feeling utterly sorry for herself and permanently annoyed at everyone else. There were some mealtimes and other menial, unimportant things to get done somewhere in what she did everyday, but it wasn't nearly as much of a concern.
Ever since the two Queens had risen, Therion had noticed the number of chores required of her go steadily upward. It wasn't necessarily because more really needed to be done, the Weyr just wanted more out of them because some of them would be becoming dragonriders soon. They said it had something to do with being worthy riders later on, but Therion was pretty sure the Weyr just wanted to milk as much work out of them as possible before they couldn't do that anymore.
Today had been one of those days that just seemed to confirm this kind of thinking. It was nearly time for supper before Therion had finally completed all the utterly pointless tasks she was expected to do. She wasn't sure why anyone still expected anything of her, but they were quick enough to yell at her if she complained in the slightest. She still believed there were some serious problems in the Weyr. Problems she could be on the road to fixing if Elynth hadn't been so utterly confused as to pick the wrong person. At this point, she was ready to flat out leave if it happened again. She couldn't stand being stuck so unappreciated, especially when she knew she didn't belong there.
It was in a very irksome mood that Therion made her way back to the Candidate Barracks and sat quietly on her own bed, mind still turning with the injustice she was sure she was experiencing. She wasn't even feeling particularly hungry for supper at this point. Maybe she would just stay here and not go. Not that anyone would notice if she did. Of course, they wouldn't notice if she went either.
She finally took a deep breath and attempted to calm herself, if only slightly. Then she looked around. On one bunk she noticed a bundled up figure. Therion was pretty certain that had bunk had been empty the day before. Well, at least two days before it had been. At this point, though, she was pretty used to the idea of new Candidates popping up. Wonderful. More girls to be standing there, confusing her dragon and possibly preventing her from picking the only girl right for her. With every Candidate that showed up Therion just got more and more annoyed. All it meant was potential competition for her.
Maybe this new girl wouldn't be a problem, though. There were some Candidates that were so obviously not suited for a Gold that even a newborn couldn't possibly choose them. If this girl was like that then Therion would have that much less to worry about. Maybe she should find out.
But then if she wasn't like that it would just give her extra troubles that she didn't need right now. Therion pondered it for a while before she decided the girl needed to wake up anyways if she wanted supper.
"Hey!" Therion called, far too lazy to walk across to her. "Hey! Supper is soon, and you'll miss it if you don't get up." Not that this was a concern of her own, but some people cared about that sort of thing.

Tishu didn't hear the other girl come in, but the sound of the voice startled her into waking up. Did the voice sound disgusted, annoyed or mad? Sounded pretty close to all three to her. Sitting up, she swung her legs over the side of her bed to see who spoke to her. The girl looked totally worn out and depressed. She might not be, but to Tishu she was. She decided to walk carefully here. The girl reminded her of her Granddam when she was ready to strike out in violence.
"Thank you for waking me, I'm looking forward to eating. It's been a long day." Tishu spoke softly in a tone that sometimes soothed her Granddam's mood. "I'm Tishu. I got here earlier and thought I would catch a nap." She explained a little waiting to see what happened next.

Well, the girl seemed nice enough. At least a bit nicer than Therion expected from most people. That was good. She was getting tired of all the grumpiness surrounding her. Most people just seemed annoyed in general. Of course, Therion had more important things to judge this girl by than niceness. That could easily be one of those traits that made her a threat, although too much nicety tended to make people just overly soft, and therefore not much of a problem. Not that overly nice people were bad or anything. They were actually quite good, especially since they weren't really competition for her.
"I'm Therion," she replied, since it was generally appropriate to give one's own name after hearing the name of another person. "So Tishu, what made you decide to come here? Get away from home? Just wanted a dragon?" It seemed like an innocent question, perhaps, but to Therion it was also a test of how much of a bother Tishu could be in her quest to become Weyrwoman. Figuring out the girl's personality could help her to decide if she would be any sort of danger at all to her chances.
Of course, Tishu looked a few Turns younger than her, which would help as well, although it could easily be a few Turns more before another Queen egg was hatched (although hopefully not, she'd probably die trying to wait that long). If there was one soon, though, Therion would probably be better off anyways. She was older, after all. That had to count for something, although she did hope the fact that she simply fit a gold dragon perfectly would be a worth a lot more when the chance came again.

"I'm glad to meet you Therion, how long have you been here?" Tishu asked. She wondered what had happened to this girl to have so many emotions run across her face. She wasn't sure if she should be concerned for her well being. Just as quick as that thought entered she dismissed it just as quickly. Would a Dragon pick someone that was potentially dangerous? Tishu didn't think they would, but you really couldn't be sure. She remembered stories of dragon men fighting.
"Do you know how soon the next hatching will be? I didn't even think to ask. I don't know if there are eggs yet." She said grinning at herself. "Are you going to go eat soon too?" Tishu asked getting up and re-making her bed. There was something about this girl, she just couldn't put her finger on it. Maybe she just needed a friend.
