The young blonde had always been an outgoing sort although lately she had been trying to stay out of trouble. Considering her history, this was going to be quite hard. She, like the others of the pack, seemed to attract trouble. Seirsha was skipping along one of the cavernous passageways she used to get home, Jinx was sitting quietly on her shoulder and for once was also trying to stay out of trouble.
Her thoughts were not on the firelizard or on the trouble she had caused, for the first time in a while. Today she was filled with a sense of good things to come. She was living up to her name again. There was a light at the end of this tunnel and they would all be happy. And then someone had to go and ruin things for her.
"All alone are we?" Kreallie said with a hint of arrogance. "I'm surprised you can walk home without accompaniment by your little pack."
Seirsha never could back down from a fight.
Kreallie, had been walking the opposite direction. She was quiet, no one noticed her as she made her way back towards her brother's weyr. He was Weyrleader now so she knew her time of being invisible was about to end. There were few things she hated more than seeing what she wanted slipping further out of her hands. The red head was not known to start trouble but she was sick of the pack gaining notoriety for being bad. Everyone knew them. Everyone liked them.
Except perhaps her. Kreallie had always behaved as she should and she was invisible. How was this possible? Her visions of grandeur were being ruined, especially by D'seus' evil spawn, Hinuk. The boy thought he owned the Weyr. Well guess what, he didn't. Her brother was Weyrleader. The Weyr would know him and subsequently her better than any of the others. She should be more well known. She was the picture perfection! When were these dim glows going to realize that. It was with this frame of mind that she looked up to see Seirsha heading her way...skipping, smiling, firelizard on her shoulder...made Kreallie want to trip her sooo bad. Little miss perfect.
So she decided to verbalize her irritation with Seirsha.
The look in the blondes eyes said it all. Kreallie had hit the right buttons. She wondered how much trouble Seirsha would get into if they fought. Kreallie had never been in trouble... so who would the superiors believe started the fight? The red head's smile was like a cat who had a mouse in a trap.
Faranth forgive me. Seirsha thought to herself, her agitation at the other girl, had gotten Jinx a little too active. He was clawing her shoulder. One look told him to settle.
"At least I have friends."
"Oh sure. A bunch of kids, some boys and a dead girl..."
Seirsha's eyes watered slightly and her jaw tightened. Her right fist formed a ball before she spoke in a steady firm voice."Take it back Kreallie."
"No. You walk around here with that dimglow Hinuk and think you own this Weyr. You are nothing. You let your best friend die and then almost got more people killed. I won't take back what I said. I was speaking the truth." Kreallie was not at all sorry. She had evoked the emotional response she was aiming for. One more taunt and that girl would be on her like a moth to a flame. This was much more fun than she thought it would be.
Seirsha had no time for bullies. While Kreallie was pushing some buttons she had been keeping her temper down. She was not going to hit the girl. She would only get into trouble...okay well, she might hit her but not first. And she had to bring up things that made Seirsha really want to hit her. The blonde held back and said, "Jealous much? Is it that you like Hinuk or that you want friends or maybe that you wanted to die on the Sands instead of Evelys? You are pathetic." She had power over this situation. She knew she did. Whether Kreallie would come to terms with it or not.
HATE HER! Kreallie thought vehemently. If she could drown the blonde girl in the lake she might just do it! Kreallie did not need to be psychoanalyzed. The other girl was a freak. She determined this by her response of Kreallie being jealous. Maybe she was a little bit but not for any of the reasons stated. Hinuk was just eww. Who needed friends? And why on Pern would she want to die?
"Pathetic? Maybe you need a lesson in vocabulary. I'm smarter than you are and if I wanted friends I would have them." She was about to add she was most definitely prettier but then there would be some comment about liking girls which would not benefit her in the slightest. She moved a couple feet closer to the other girl and said quietly. "You are worse than pathetic. You can't do a thing without other people to support you. Where as I can stand strong, alone." The girl needed to hit her, it wouldn't be any fun until she did! What was the point of getting someone into trouble if they wouldn't get into trouble?
All of the arguing was getting tedious. If Kreallie wanted to start something she better start it so that Seirsha could finish it. She felt the urge to punch the girl just for coming into her space. "Get out of my face." Her voice was almost a growl. She did not like Kreallie. The red head was turning out to be a spoiled little brat who obviously harbored bad feelings toward Seirsha and the pack.
"Make me."
What was she supposed to do? Seirsha asked herself and before giving it a second thought, her fist was headed for Kreallie's jaw.
