"No! I cannot make it more happy. The song is about loss and hopelessness. I refuse to give it an ending that does not leave the audience thinking the world is a dark and miserable place. That is the whole purpose."
J'zen and D'isk were having an argument in the middle of the dining hall, and neither was attempting to be particularly quiet. Instead their altercation seemed to be growing in volume. It wasn't as if they were prone to fighting, but J'zen was rather fond of D'isk's passion and bluntly honest nature. The Bluerider had met the Greenrider after Kalith's first Rising, and the two of them had just sort of clicked. It was the start of a strong and loud friendship. It was exactly what J'zen had always wanted.
On the other hand, D'isk had been beyond shaken and mortified upon their first meeting. He hadn't been able to even look at J'zen until the other man had started just talking. J'zen hadn't been talking about anything in particular, but the mellow sound of his voice had slowly made D'isk uncurl and relax a little. it wasn't until J'zen had started singing in that wonderful tenor, that D'isk forget his embarrassment completely. Ever since then, D'isk had come to J'zen for a mixture of constant comfort and knowledge. J'zen was so smart, and it was apparent he missed teaching.
All in all, there was no odder sight than the two of them getting along.
"No one wants to listen to a song that makes them unhappy. That's why it at least needs a happy ending!"
Scoffing, J'zen shook his head and cut his eyes in a condescending manner. It was apparent to J'zen that D'isk would refuse to see reason. Instead, they would have to do this in a juvenile and completely demeaning manner.
"Fine D'isk, why don't we take a poll. Who should we ask first? The rider sitting over their enjoying his meat roll, or perhaps you want to ask the drudge in the corner."
D'isk huffed at J'zen's actions. It was obvious the Bluerider wasn't taking this seriously, but that didn't mean D'isk wasn't about to drop it. He was going to do exactly as J'zen suggested, whether the other man had been serious or not.
"Fine I will! Someone will agree with me."
Turning from J'zen who had raised an eye-brow in a blend of amusement and exasperation, D'isk approached the nearest person.
"Hey! You! Do you mind answering a question?"
A snort from behind told D'isk that for all his pompous exclamations, J'zen had followed and was playing along.
"'Would,' D'sik. 'Would you mind answering a question?' Ability does not equal consent."
Resisting the urge to stick his tongue out and spit at J'zen, D'isk merely acquired a kicked puppy face and looked imploringly at the person in front of him.
