Trelia had received terrible news from her father Trene who had arrived a this morning and had taken her home immediatley. She stood at the burial of her young cousin Tielms with a large bouquet of flower that she'd picked from a nearby field. He had been out in the jungle after one of their prized weyrbeasts who had wandered off when a wild animal had gotten him. Her father had found him dead and she now stood with the rest of the family at the burial of her favorite cousin. The young boy was only a few turns younger then Trelia and she loved him with her whole heart. The two of them had grown up together and often played together for hours. He'd been the happiest for her when she'd been searched to stand on the sands as a candidate.
He'd even told her if she didn't impress a dragon that she should stay and try her luck again. She'd gone with his blessing and tears escaped her eyes as her father's comforting arm was around laid upon her shoulder. The young woman couldn't believe that her little cousin was dead and sighed for a moment. Trelia was trully heartbroken at this moment and just looked onward as dirt was shoveled on the grave. "I will impress I promise you," said Trelia as she wipped the tears from her eyes and then looked at her family.
She'd missed too much the last six months that she'd been at the weyr yet would have to return. A green rider would be returning for her this evening and she had to return as a gold dragon had just risen. Trelia couldn't miss her chance to impress a dragon and Tielms wouldn't want her to miss her chance. "I will miss you little cousin," said Trelia as she laid the flowers on the grave. She was dressed in a light blue dress her favorite color and looked onward. Her mind filled with memories of them playing together over the turns and pretending to be dragonriders. The two of them would spend hours on top of the barn daydreaming about what their lives would be when they grew up.
Trelia had been certain that it would be her younger cousin who would have been chosen to stand on the sands. He would have made a good dragon rider and now he'd never have the chance to impress. She went over to her mother and hugged her because she had raised her cousin after his parents had died. The young woman was at a lost of what to do with this loss and just hugged her mother as more tears came out of her eyes. "I'm so sorry," said Trelia as she looked her brothers and they just looked onward with blank emotionless stares.
