Character Info:
Name: Natia
Age: 20 Turns
Gender: Female
Rank: Illume Wingrider
Family:
Father: N’ret – Rider of Blue Nahamenth at Haven (58)
Mother: Tiha – Lower Caverns Worker at Haven (49)
Brother: T’het – Rider of Green Xharath at Haven (22)
(Has numerous half-siblings from both parents that she has not kept track of)
Appearance: Natia has short, whitish-blonde hair, which looks a bit yellow if you look at it a certain way, but mostly just looks very light colored, not really white, but not really yellow either. At her full growth, she reaches just a little above 5’10” in height. Her eyes are dark green, and are often found hidden by the bangs that constantly fall in her face. This is of no source of annoyance to her in the slightest. Overall, she has an almost childish look to her, which is not so much caused by her figure as by the way she acts and the expressions she constantly has. At first glance, it is easy to see the child inside of her. She is almost always smiling, and her hair always seems to be messy, but isn’t quite thick or long enough to really tangle a great deal.
While she isn’t down-right beautiful, she can be seen as rather pretty, or at least she could if she bothered to act the part. Natia doesn’t get into any kind of relationships with people. She can easily get along with anyone willing to be in her company, but she never really stops to consider falling in love with anyone. Those kind of relationships aren’t very important to her, and she prefers to be friends with everyone than try to sort out specific feelings.
Clothes aren’t really a great concern for her. She doesn’t normally wear anything of any great significance, although she does own a few dresses that are steadily getting dustier. Natia could quite happily keep the same pair of clothes on for a week and not care in the least. Personal hygiene is rather low on her list of priorities. She has strength about her nonetheless, and so doesn’t get sick too often, and even if she can get rather dirty, stained, or bruised from whatever it is she is doing, Natia doesn’t complain about it and doesn’t give her injuries anymore thought than she has too. She almost requires somewhere else to tell her when she needs to see a healer, because she might not think that up herself.
Personality: Imagine the annoying little sister who was only willing to do things that she wanted to do, and never really cared much about other people. Now imagine that she never grew up. This is Natia. While she may look like a grown woman, on the inside she is little more than a child. Perhaps this can be attributed to her dragon, or perhaps she would have been like that anyways. She loves to play all sorts of games with the younger children at the Weyr, and so can get along extraordinarily well with them. But she doesn’t spend all of her time hanging out with the younger children. Natia views life as a purely wonderful gift that, unfortunately, will not last forever. She recognizes this fact, and it bothers her simply because it means that she can never possibly do everything she might want to do. But Natia knows, at least, that she can’t live forever, so she likes to spend every moment of her day doing the things that she likes to do.
And what does she like to do? Enjoy herself, which is what everyone likes to do. And she enjoys herself best when she is playing around. It doesn’t matter what or who she is playing with, and she can always play with herself perfectly happily. Leave her alone with her dragon and she will be extremely content to just stay there and have fun. She has always felt that the main problem with the people around her is that they simply don’t know how to have fun. This is especially true for people with Bronze or Gold dragons. Whenever she interacts with them, she can’t help but laugh just thinking about how seriously they take everything. Natia believes that if everyone would just take the time to relax, play, and take a break, then everything would be able to work out.
It would be hard to tell her that she’s wrong, because it’s worked out for her rather well. While she has trouble making friends with anybody, because most people aren’t quite sure what to make of her, she is never bothered in the slightest. She never gets mad at people and never holds grudges, and while she will complain about having to do any kind of chores or work that she finds boring, she might, eventually, get it done, and she won’t be upset at the person who told her to do it. Life is just to short to spend it being mad at people. If only everyone could realize that, then we could all get along harmoniously. Or at least so Natia thinks, although the world is probably far more complicated than she believes it to be.
Unfortunately, Natia is a bit lax with rules. She’s one of those people that sees them as suggestions. Usually, the problem is simply that the rules interfere with the things she wants to do. So to get around that problem, she ignores the rules. She lives in the present, and any punishment she may receive for rule-breaking doesn’t bother her, since she doesn’t even bother to think about it until she is being scolded. Unless there is someone watching her to make sure she doesn’t run off, there isn’t much way to make sure she doesn’t just go off rule-breaking again. She doesn’t do it for the pleasure of the breaking the rules, but it isn’t her fault someone else made up those silly rules. Natia is just doing what she enjoys to do, and how is it her fault if other people care about what she’s doing?
She is perfectly terrible at being punctual. You can ask Natia to meet you somewhere in ten minutes, and if she agrees, than she is genuinely willing and ready to go meet you there in ten minutes. The problem is that, in ten seconds, something more interesting will come along and she will have forgotten she promised that. It’s not that she means to never show up for anything, but she can never remember when something is occurring, or even that it was going to occur. Crith is absolutely no help with this sort of thing, since she can forget those kinds of appointments even quicker than Natia can. They were constantly late for weyrling lessons, and the only reason Natia ever showed up on time (if just a wee bit late) for candidate lessons was because she couldn’t have stayed a Candidate otherwise. Now that they are no longer Weyrlings, they cannot be late to those lessons anymore. Instead, they are late for wing drills. Of course, neither of them feels that they need practice in that sort of thing, but they will still plan on showing up and still forget that they have a drill scheduled until someone is nice enough to remind them.
Can Natia be responsible? Well, yes, but it’s a stretch. While she is mostly a child, one cannot ignore the fact that she is actually much older than a child, and part of this aging thing has rubbed off on her. But don’t expect her to start going around acting adult-like. If she needed too, she could be responsible. If there is someone else around that can be responsible, she lets them do it. Natia had trouble as a weyrling remembering that she needed to oil Crith regularly, so she can hardly be expected to be able to tell others what kinds of responsibilities they have and how to keep them. She is also rather brave, which one doesn’t really notice about her, and isn’t something she really notices herself. If she ever stopped to think about how dangerous doing something could be, she might not be so brave. But to Natia, jumping off a ledge to land on Crith’s back a hundred feet above the ground is no different from jumping from one ledge to another when they are less than a foot apart. If someone is in danger, she will stop to help them, but she has never seen this as amazing in the slightest. It’s something everyone should do, anyways.
Hobbies/Skills: Anything that provides enjoyment is a bit of a hobby for Natia. She can be found in the lake with Crith probably more than any other person is ever there, but she is also probably the dragonrider that gives her dragon the least number of baths in a Turn. She can also be found flying all over the place, trying out all sorts of fun flight maneuvers. Natia loves to be above the ground with her dragon, and even if they don’t fly for a very long time, she still enjoys it immensely.
She also enjoys going exploring. There isn’t always time for that, but if she has the chance to run away with Crith and go soaring on the coast to see if they can find some hidden cave, or over the forest to try and find something over there, she is happy to do it. Life is an adventure for Natia, and she wants to live it that way. The real problem with this is that she doesn’t care how many other people tell her she shouldn’t be doing that. If she does something and she enjoys doing it, she’ll find a way to do it again, whatever everyone else may say.
Pets: None at the moment
History: Natia is one of those Weyr children born to a rider who lost a Flight. She has only one brother who shares both parents with her, but is aware that there are several people around the Weyr that are related to her through one of her parents, although she has never had the time to figure out whom, and could never take it upon herself to care too much about it either. From the moment she was old enough to think about what she wanted to do with her life, she knew exactly what it was she wanted to do. She was going to be a dragonrider, and not to just any boring dragon. She was going to ride a Green. Natia had never understood all those girls who daydreamed about Impressing a Gold dragon. To her, that has never meant anything but a lot of work. The moment you Impress a Gold dragon, your responsibilities are doubled, you are expected to take care of the Weyr and to associate with Bronzeriders and other Goldriders, and those are about the most serious and least fun people in the entire Weyr. Natia would probably have cried if she ever Impressed a Gold, and they would not be tears of joy. No, she knew exactly what she wanted to do. She was going to become a Candidate and find a Green dragon that loved to have fun just as much as she did.
And so she became a Candidate as soon as she was old enough. She did not Impress at the first Hatching she stood for, but this did not bother her or lower her spirits. The dragon she was looking for hadn’t been in that clutch, and that was why she hadn’t Impressed. Besides, she had plenty of hatchings she could Stand for still, and it was coming to her attention that the clutches were growing larger, and becoming more frequent. To others, this meant that Thread was coming. To Natia, it simply meant she had that much of a better chance of finding that dragon that suited her perfectly. She was willing to Stand and stay unImpressed for a hundred hatchings or more, so long as the Weyr was willing to let her Stand for the next hatching. And if she never did Impress, it must mean that dragons were incapable of having fun in their lives, so it would probably be a good thing that she didn’t Impress. No, she would wait until the perfect dragon came along.
That dragon did not come until Natia was fifteen. She had already been a Candidate for some Turns, and was beginning to find it desperately hard to show up for her lessons just early enough for the Candidate Master to decide she was worthy of staying as a Candidate. But there was another clutch on the Sands, and when it began to hatch, Natia was standing there, with her white robes on and nothing but excitement inside of her. She knew that dragons could feel what the Candidates were like, and she wanted to make it plain to all of the dragons that she loved to have fun, and she would only be content with a dragon who was the same.
Natia noticed when the little Green dragon crawled out its shell, but her attention was diverted as two other eggs cracked open as well. She wasn’t interested in most of the dragons that hatched, and kept her eye only on the wandering Greens. She soon saw the Green hatchling again. It stopped when it first reached the semi-circle of Candidates, and then began to move straight past most of them without even stopping. Natia smiled at that. She had too, because it was just the kind of thing she would do if she was a dragon. There was no way she would have been willing to settle with someone who might be right for her, when there was the possible that there was someone else there who was right for her. It was nice to see there was a dragon that thought the same way.
The dragon only slowed down when it came near Natia. Then it turned to look at her, and she looked with excitement into the multi-faceted eyes. She suddenly felt something odd, but not really bad. The dragon in front of her was hungry, she could tell. But underneath that burning fire that yearned for food there was a different kind of fire. The fire of adventure, of living life to the fullest and doing the things you want to do because you might not get to do them tomorrow. The fire of wanting to just ignore your responsibilities and to have fun. And Natia’s smile grew wider because she knew, at last, that, with Crith, she had found the dragon she was looking for, the dragon that wanted to have fun just as much as she did.
The best Turns of Natia’s life started then. She would always be able to look on her life and reflect that her life had truly become wonderful after Impressing to Crith. The same could not be said for the people around them. The two of them had the distinction of being the hardest to handle out of their weyrling class. It is a miracle in itself that Crith managed to grow without having any sort of health problems, as neither Natia nor Crith gave much interest to the good health of the growing dragon. They were always the last to show up for lessons and only got through one of them without having their minds wander to something else, something they found more interesting. Graduating was a relief for both of them, until wing drills started, anyways. Then it was like their weyrling lessons all over again.
Dragon Info
Name: Crith
Color: Green
Age: 5 Turns
Description:
Overall, Crith is a rather light and somewhat pale shade of green. Her wings, however, are a darker green color, as are the wing membranes, although they are slightly lighter than the bones on her wings. Her back is a slightly richer shade of green than her neck and head. Her tail, as well, is richer in shade, but slowly becomes more pale until it reaches the palest color on her hide by the time you reach the end of her forked tail. Her hide’s true color could be a point of debate because of this, but it is of no concern to her, nor does anyone else have the time to think about it. She is also a rather smaller Green, reaching only 19.8 meters at her full growth.
Her small size, however, makes her an excellent flier. While Crith cannot fly for as long as almost any other dragon can, she is extraordinarily nimble in the air. She could most certainly not last an entire Threadfall, but she would also be likely to get away from a Threadfall unscathed. It also makes her wonderfully easy to give a bath too, since it wouldn’t take nearly as long as larger dragons would. Her Flights are very short as well, but she is very interesting to try and follow, because she loves nothing more than to play around with her suitors.
Personality: The first thing that anyone might notice about Crith’s personality is that she loves to have fun just as her rider does. Crith wakes up in the morning and tries to think up something that she had Natia can do that day to enjoy themselves. She likes to think up all sorts of different things for them to do, but because of a dragon’s short memory, these “different” things are often the same things, over and over again. But because she doesn’t really remember doing it, Crith enjoys it again like it was the first time. She is not very shy at all, which is plain to see, but she isn’t very talkative either. She talks most when she is just with Natia and the two of them are doing something together. Crith has respect for larger dragons, like the Golds and Bronzes, but she does her best to avoid them. She sees them as dragons who are too busy flashing off their shiny colors and telling others to do things to have any fun in their lives. Crith gets along best with Greens and Blues, but she isn’t one for gossip, which is unrelated to her fun-centered universe.
Crith is also quite carefree, even dangerously so. When she wants to do something, she wants it to be fun, and she doesn’t care much if it might put herself in danger. She doesn’t have time to give much thought to those sorts of things. Crith can also be a bit of a trouble-maker. She is very proud of her flying ability, and so has always found wing drills to be rather dull, since she never has any difficulty in it at all. She is also as terrible as her rider at remembering if they should be somewhere at any given time. While, like every other dragon, Crith will follow the orders of a Gold, she will also often do things that would be irksome to a Gold, not really to be irksome, but just because it was what she wanted to do at the time. She is never embarrassed by her actions, and will always choose to do something she enjoys doing over something she finds dull or difficult.
History: There had been a moment when she was peaceful, when there was no urge to do anything but exist. But now that moment was gone, and long forgotten as well. The confines which she had been in had turned against her liking, and now she rocked vigorously against them, pushing outward with all the limbs she hadn’t known she had had, doing anything, anything to get away from it. And then something happened. Some part of her felt a sudden chill, and there was a light from somewhere, and she knew it was light, even though she had never seen it before. But soon her head had poked out, and she scrambled out even as she looked around. This place was different, and bright, but she soon adjusted. There was a burn inside her, and she knew that what she wanted was food, something to satiate this desire. But even as she felt that, she felt a hole inside of her, and it was dark and terrifying. She would not, could not survive here alone.
But there were others here, and she knew that she needed one of them. She would find one of them, and they would remove that hole. Just being around them made it go away slightly, and once she was with one of them forever, that hole inside of her would leave and never return.
So she approached one of them, intending to do just this, and was instantly repelled by the person. They were trembling. Trembling? Why should they tremble? They were nervous, anxious that a dragon, such as her, should choose to join with them. But she wasn’t going to someone that trembled. So what if no dragon choose them? There were other things in life. Why did they worry? Turning, the dragon ignored that person and walked straight past several others. There was something wrong with all of them. Most of them were simply anxious. A few were excited, but at the same time she didn’t feel, underneath them, the thing that she was looking for. And what was she looking for? The little dragon wasn’t actually sure, but none of them had it.
And then it was there. She stopped in her wanderings and turn to look. There was someone there, and they were excited. They were also carefree, and happy, not thinking the least bit about what a bad outcome would be, because there was no bad outcome. She knew this. They both knew this. And so the dragon turned to her, for this was the person she wanted to spend her life with. She was Crith, she had found a person of her own, she had found Natia. They would have some fun, as soon as Crith had been fed, of course, and then every day afterwards was going to be fun as well. She had just reached this world, but that didn’t mean they had to wait to play around.
