R'kin was in the weyrling barracks where he sat on a stool and was cleaning the various harnesses that belonged to older riders. He sighed as he started to scrub another one and wished that he hadn't listened to the other weyrlings. The young bronze weyrling had snuck out with a few weyrlings after curfew to go raid the lower caverns for some snacks. When they'd gotten caught by a older bronze rider it was various chores assigned to the each one of them. He'd been assigned to clean various harnesses for the next two weeks of the Illume wing and he sighed. The harnesses we're huge with fitting on a dragon and he first had to wash them. When he'd finish washing them then he'd after to polish him. It'd been a all day event as he'd gotten about one fourth done and it was already into late afternoon.
He was at least thankful that this was a easy chore compared to having to clean out the weyr beasts stalls. R'kin was not a fan of cleaning stalls and sighed as a few of the other weyrlings passed him snickering. His own dragon was snickering at him in his head until he threatened to not rub his eye ridges anymore then the dragon was quiet. It had all started out innocently enough with just wanting to have fun and bond with his fellow weyrlings. These we're the people that he'd be with for the rest of his life and he wanted to get to know them better. A few of them he even had started to truly like especially the brown riders who he'd be closest to.
A big harness was ahead of him a bronze one and he'd have to take a deep breath even to attempt this one. He first started to scrub it as the sweat and dirt came off. The whole event took a good hour and when done still had to dry then it was time for polish. R'kin would never be sneaking out again because his hands we're starting to develop blisters. If he ever caught weyrlings one day sneaking out then this was satisfactory punishment he mused as he started to polish the harness.

T'mar hadn't been one to sneak out, but he had heard of the different punishments that were delt out. He was just finished his chores in the kitchen. Peeling tubers wasn't his favorite thing to do, but eating them made it worth while. His stomach growled loudly as he entered the barracks with Petroth laughing at his empty stomach.
Seeing R'kin working on the huge harnesses made his hands hurt. He grabbed a stool and sat down. Grabbing the pot of oil he started to help. He hadn't seen much of the boy sense the holdless attack. They were all so busy with classes and chores.
"Mind if I help you? It looks like this is your last one, and with help we both can go eat before the older riders get all the choice things." He offered as he put action into words. About that time his stomach gave another loud growl of protest. He had fed Petroth, but not himself yet. He wanted to clean up a bit first when he saw R'kin still laboring over his task.
You need to eat mine.[/I][/color] Petroth Said sternly from his couch. He was sleepy after his meal but he was concerned about 'his'.
"I will go eat when R'kin and I are done with this harness. I promise." T'mar spoke out loud so the other boy could also hear. Grinning, he bent to his section of harness.

R'kin smiled as T'mar came over to offer his help and immediately picked up the other side of the harness that he was working on. He said, "Thank you," as he knew that his strength and energy on this project was starting to go down. While they finished the oiling the harness and he sighed for a moment as he finished. The young man said, "I will not be sneaking out again," with a smile as he couldn't wait till they graduated and could go where they wanted. "I can't wait till we graduate," said R'kin as he just daydreamed about them graduating and getting their knots. While they would defiantly be a great wing and smiled over at the blue rider.
"How have you been," asked R'kin as he smiled at the other guy and realized that he hadn't really talked to the other guy before. They we're all busy with lessons and their dragons it left little time for socializing. R'kin was busy oiling the harness as a few of the other riders went by one being a bronze rider and said, "R'kin make it shine,". While he looked at him for a moment then said, "One day we'll get them in the skys when we're on top and teach those old ones how it is done,". The young man would prove one day that he was just as good as the older bronze riders. He might not have had the attitude of a bronze rider yet he was still one and the others would have to accept it eventually. R'kin just kept working because his stomach was growling and he was thankful for the extra help that he'd been given.

"I don't blame you for not wanting to sneak out again. At least not where you will get caught." T'mar answered smiling at the boy. He didn't care if he was a Bronze or a green Weyrling. The way he figured it, they had to get to know and get along well in order to trust one another. Besides he liked R'kin and didn't see any reason why he should be treated any different just because a bronze choose him instead.
"I've been OK, you don't look too bad sense I helped you after the holdless attack, I'm glad you are OK. How have you been doing? And what made you sneak out anyway?" T'mar asked switching to another section of harness. They were about half way done and his stomach was protesting its hunger again, loudly-

R'kin listened to the blue rider then replied, "Well went along with some other people to get some pies after hours nothing really just something that ended up being a stupid mistake,". He sighed as he remembered that night that had landed him here and the big speech of how things we're expected of him. The bronze weyrling had heard it many times of because of what he rode things we're expected of him. In frustration he started to shine one spot quicker and then sighed because the whole experience had been frustrating. It didn't matter what he seemed to do nothing was good enough and he wondered sometimes if his dragon had made a mistake on the hatching sands.
"Well, besides getting into trouble I've been fine," said R'kin as he looked over at his friend then heard his own stomach growl. R'kin was defiantly getting hungry as he decided that in a few more minutes hopefully they'd be done. "I wonder if we'll be allowed to go up north once we learn how to fly," asked R'kin referring to how the dragons had gone up north? He was curious of what laid up north and what they might find. The young man defiantly had a curious streak that one day might land him into trouble. "I have to say thanks for the help because no one else has even offered I won't forget this," said R'kin as he smiled at his friend. R'kin couldn't believe that he would be able to do one day fly and it was soon approaching. "Can you wait to fly," asked R'kin as he smiled at his friend because it had to be feeling that they all shared?

Grinning at R'kin as he polished, T'mar listened to the frustrated weyrling talk. "No, I can't wait to fly, it's something I've dreamed off it seems my whole life. It is something we are going to enjoy, Petroth and I. I sometimes wonder what made him choose me, but I wouldn't change it." Answered polishing a bit more.
"I haven't thought of going north, that is a interesting thought though. If I had a choice I'd go with you, if you were my wingleader and I was chosen for your wing." T'mar explained turning a bit red. "We work good together, and I trust you. I'd help you anytime you needed it. Just ask. Say, how would you like to work on a Weyrling Assignment together? I hate those things, and mostly we aren't told we have to do them by ourselves. Unless you think I'm being sappy." he mumbled.
Putting down his section of harness, he was done, nothing else on it needed his attention. He waited for R'kin to finish. His stomach growled loudly again. "You about ready to go eat?" He asked patting his stomach.

R'kin said, "Yeah, let's go," as he put his part of the harness down and soon started to walk down to the lower caverns. His stomach growled because he was so hungry and then looked over at his friend. "Thanks, for helping me," said R'kin as he never forgot when people helped him out in those situations. The young man defiantly would not be sneaking out anymore because these chores we're daunting. When he looked over at the other guy he asked, "So who do you think will rise first,"? It was a question that was going across everyone's mind. His own bet was that the queen from the past would rise first because she was a proven winner.
"My bet is on the queen from the past and the fact that it would be good for some new blood to be introduced to the weyr," said R'kin as he thought how queens we're mating we're mating with their own clutch mates. A fact that caused inbreeding and could cause problems with the dragons. He passed a few lower caverns women that batted their eyes at him and caused him to wave back. "We've got so much to look forward to with graduation one day," said R'kin. The bronze weyrling looked forward to the day when they we're the heroes in the sky and the lower caverns women looked up to them. "I personally cannot wait," said R'kin as he looked at his friend and knew that they would be graduating before they knew it. In another month they'd be learning how to fly and he just smiled at this fact.

"I agree with you. I think the new Queen will probably rise first. New blood couldn't be bad for the weyr. She is small though. How many eggs do you think she could lay, being that small I mean." T'mar said as he walked by his friends side. He liked the young bronzerider. It was fun easy work to do chores with him. The day just seemed to go by much faster.
He laughed as the girls were being silly when they passed. T'mar knew it wasn't for him, the young man next to him would be a typical bronzerider, he waved at the giggling mass making it worse. He waved too just to show he wasn't stuck up. "Graduation will sneak up on us fast. Our dragons are getting big enough to fly soon. Can you imagine? We are going to fly at last!" T'mar said excitedly. They had to start somewhere, and he couldn't wait.
