Appearance:
Playby: Emma Stone
Though she’s not the tallest woman around, Lyndel stands at a good 5’9. Her figure is more athletic then slim and more flat then curvy. Her chest is small, but thankfully she has enough to not look boyish. The same can be said for her butt as well. It takes work and the help of tailors to have outfits that show off what feminine curves Lyndel has.
While her body isn’t very feminine, her face is. A long, oval shaped face, framed with cool blonde hair. Her bangs are long and blunted, left to hang right over her eyes and cover her forehead. Gray eyes with a hint of blue to them peer out below her bangs. Her eyes are stern ones that seem far older then the rest of Lyn. Her nose is thin and has a slight upturn to the tip of it, ending just above her full pink lips. A light smattering of freckles covers her upper cheeks and nose, showing against her fair skin far more in the summer months after she’s gotten some sun.
To avoid being mistaken for a tomboy, Lyn dresses like a girl. Skirts and dresses a majority of the time with tops that a cut to fit a woman. When doing physical work she’ll wear pants just because she doesn’t need to go around accidently flashing others. At Refugee she has a minimal amount of clothing with her, one nice coral pink gown for special events, a less formal set of nice clothing, and then items that would be appropriate for a candidate and a weyrling.
Personality:
The first thing that anyone realizes about Lyn is that she’s a very confident young woman. She’s always sure of herself, even when she doesn’t have all the answers you’d never guess. She takes her time with things, and doesn’t let herself get rushed into situations, especially not important ones. Even the choice of going to Refuge for their hatching was not taken lightly or made in a matter of minutes.
Lyn has always been a serious girl. Even as a child she was the snotty kid who would scold the others for being noisy and loud during lessons. While the younger children were interested in playing games and running around, Lyn had already decided that she was going to be a dragon rider. And not just any rider, but a gold one like her aunt. It wasn’t until her teens that she realized that if she was serious about becoming a gold rider, she was going to need to be more then just a good student.
Though her serious nature can be off putting, Lyn goes out of her way to get to know someone. She’s not a social butterfly, becoming best friends with everyone she meets, but she does know how to be polite and friendly to others. She’s a quick judge of character, and tends to study those she gets to know, wanting to know what they’re good at and how that could help her out later.
Lyndel tries to be realistic when it comes to things. Recent events have caused her to border more on a pessimistic view but she still tries to keep herself firmly grounded in reality. Hoping and wishing that things were better for Pern won’t do anything good. If getting her hands messy is what it takes to help a farmer fix the damage a suddenly flood did to his crops, Lyn will help out and learn something new. She’s not the type to sit back and whine about things but actively goes out to find something she can to do fix the situation.
Since she hates just sitting around, it’s no surprise that Lyn is a hands on sort of person. When it comes to learning something new. If it’s a totally new subject she’ll watch how it’s done properly but then she’ll want to jump in and try it herself. Making mistakes doesn’t bother her, so long as those mistakes don’t hurt others. When Lyn first learned how to swim, she was the type of girl who was tossed right into the water and either sank or swam.
While Lyn tries to be a good person and give everyone a chance, she has no love for the Holdless. Hate is not a strong enough word for how the girl feels about them. Her aunt and the rest of the Weyr had never taken the Holdless serious enough, they were an annoying band of thieves but nothing more. Lyndel saw first hand the kind of chaotic slaughter the Holdless were capable of, interested only in bloodshed and the death of all dragons and their riders. The thought of revenge and making the Holdless pay for what they did to her home and family have become one of the main things that’s kept Lyn going. She will have a hard time having any respect for those who feel sympathy towards the Holdless, and heaven forbid she find out that some of her fellow candidates were a part of the Holdless.
Hobbies/Skills: She has no natural talents but knows how to do a verity of things including sewing (just patching things up), basic cooking, singing, runner riding, first-aid.
She has no hobbies. Hobbies are for people who don't know what to do with themselves.
Pets: None
History: Aside from seeing and touching a gold dragon on a regular basis, Lyn’s childhood was the same as most other weyrbrats. Her mother was not only the Weyrwoman’s sister, but also her personal assistant, or just a nicer way of saying her personal drudge. The sisters got along wonderfully though and much of Cyrilla’s free time was spent spoiling her nephews and nieces.
From a young age, Lyndel knew that she wanted to be just like her aunt. Not only was her gold dragon Inayath the prettiest dragon in the Weyr, but the Weyrwoman herself was a strong and commanding woman whom the Weyr loved. It also helped that Cyrilla took a special interest in Lyn, seeing more potential for a future gold rider in Lyn then she did in Delar.
The special attention was rarely fun, it meant that Lyn was pushed harder to be better in her lessons, do more work around the Weyr, and sit through boring work so she could see what gold riders actually spent most of their time doing. As boring as some of it was, Lyn refused to give up the idea of being anything but a gold rider. Nor did she ever complain about the extra things she did, she just stubbornly toughed it out with only a few hints on the best way to do things from her aunt.
Lyn aged gracefully into a teen and then into a young woman, her stubborn determination never wavering. Two clutches were laid during her teens, neither containing a gold egg in them. She attended the candidate lessons but never stood on the sands, bidding her time for a gold dragon. Lyn was perfectly aware that there was a chance no gold eggs would be laid while she was young enough to stand. And if there was a gold egg, that didn’t mean she’d actually Impress it.
Her days settled into a comfortable predictability; lessons, chores around the Weyr, a chance to help out her mother or aunt in their duties. Until the raid. No one in the Weyr had taken the threat of the Holdless very seriously. Haven had it’s token set of guards to prevent feline and Holdless attacks, but half a dozen people posted around the Weyr weren’t enough to stop the Holdless raiding party, especially when the raid attack as the guards were changing. The guards, including Lyn’s brother, were killed quickly, before they could alert the Weyr to the attack. Once they were inside the Weyr, any resemblance of an organized attack fell apart and the Holdless went after anyone in sight. They steadily moved up through the Weyr, hunting for riders and dragons of a higher rank.
While the raiding party was unorganized and chaotic, they had enough good information to know where the Weyrwoman and the Jr. Weyrwoman kept their quarters. By then the Weyr knew it was under attack but it was impossible for Haven’s guards to try and contain the Holdless raid, they had spread out into smaller groups, keeping any offence that Haven could muster busy.
The Jr. Weyrwoman was found first and easily disarmed and captured by the Holdless. They held her hostage, making sure that her gold and no other riders tried to attack them as they attack the young queen dragon herself, taking prizes and trophies from her before she went Between and they killed her rider. Dragons and riders alike were enraged that the Holdless had killed off one of their golds and the fighting grew even bloodier.
The Holdless raid had been well planed out though and while one group was taking care of the Jr. Weyrwoman, another group was already making their way to Cyrilla’s weyr. The Weyrwoman was more heavily protected, a few guards had managed to make it to her, as well as the Weyrleader, and Lyn’s mother, father and oldest brother. Lyn herself had been sent to watch some of the younger children when word of the fighting reached her family.
This time the Holdless made no effort to try and take Cyrilla hostage. The death of the Weyr’s two golds was more then enough of a prize for them. They attacked in a blood frenzy and while they took heavy losses, Cyrilla was still mortally wounded. Inayath let out one final scream of rage and grief before the gold went Between. The loss of both golds took the fight out of most of the Weyr’s dragons but was also the signal for the Holdless to retreated back into the forest.
The Weyr was deviated by the attack but tried to regroup as quickly as they could. They sent a rider out to Refuge to find out if the sister Weyr had been hit as well and to give them warning of the attack. Weyrleader Na’red quickly took command, giving out orders and sending people to work, just to keep their minds off of what had happened. Thankfully for Haven, Refuge was quick to help out sending a few health guards and riders to the Weyr to help fix up the Weyr before their own young gold rider to take command of the Weyr. Lyn, though devastated by the loss of her mother, aunt and brother, did her best to show Essa around and get her better acquainted to the Weyr.
Helping Essa settle into the Weyr was good for Lyn, it gave her something to do other then sit and dwell on the attack and it gave her a chance to learn a little bit about Refuge. It also gave Lyn the chance to find things out before others, such as the results of Aeriath’s flight. While Lyn didn’t care much about the new Weyrleader of Refuge, Aeriath’s flight meant that there would soon be a clutch on the sands, one that Lyn knew Haven would take advantage of. Within weeks, Na’red and Essa had picked out an assortment of Haven’s candidates to send to Refuge, Lyn being one of them.
With a gold egg on the sands, Lyn is finally getting her chance to stand on the sands. Now more then ever she hopes to Impress a queen dragon, not for herself but for Haven. She hopes to Impress the gold and bring it back to Haven once she’s fully grown, allowing Refuge to have their own rider back and letting her return home to where she feels she belongs.
