Lohgan needed a break. After the hold less attack he and the other Shield members had been busy helping restore order to the mess and caos the attack made. That didn't count what seemed endless hours of patroling the Weyr just in case.
Precious had made him aware that she was hungry. He didn't know how much time had passed sense she had let him know. She was being insistant now. A few moments ago she had landed on his shoulder and did a a few tugs on his left ear. When that didn't bring a response she bit his ear then fluttered in his face giving him a good scolding.
Typical gold he supposed, always wanting their own way and expecting, no demanding that all obeyed without question. Smiling at the thought, he of course didn't argue either. His stomach made its wishes known too, that's how he found himself in line for lunch. And of course Precious wasn't anywhere in sight. She liked to make a grand entrance and he knew that as soon as he got sat down she would do just that.
After filling his tray with raw meat pieces a drudge handed him along with tubers, meatrolls and a couple bubble pies, Lohgan grabbed a steaming cup of ever ready Klah and headed for a table where he could sit with his back against the wall. He noticed several other Shield members eating and relaxing too. Good they all needed it.
Looking around he spotted a table that had just became vacant. Setting his tray down, he looked around for Kyrah. He would have liked talking with her for a few moments, shrugging at not seeing her, he settled on his bench and waited for Precious to enter.
As if on cue, she swooped into the roomî making a complete pass churping and making other noises as she went. Logan noticed she was wasn't alone, two bronzes a brown and a blue were swooping along behind her. She flew out of the room once before coming back to make a perfect dainty landing in front of Lohgan. Churping her pleasure, she cocked her head from side to side a few times while she waited for her first bite.
"Show off" Lohgan said grinning as he handed her the first bite. Being the perfect lady, Precious carefully took the offered meat piece carefully with her front paws. She never bit, not him anyway, and she always waited until handed the first bite of food. After that she would eat from her own plate, usually. Lohgan started to eat while looking around for Kyrah.
"Precious, have you seen Kyrah? I'd like to talk to her." Lohgan asked the golden flit as he took another bite of meat roll. Cocking her head side to side a time or two, Precious launched herself into the air before winking between sending a small poof of cold air where she had been a few moments before. " I wonder where she is off too, she didn't finish her lunch" he muttered. Shrugging, he went back to his meal without realizing that Precious took the hint of seeing the woman's face from hers, she went looking for that person.

The loss of her uncle had hit Kyrah pretty hard. He was the only person at the Weyr she was close to. Her mother had begun to get fidgety when she saw her coming. As if there was anything she could do to alleviate the pain and sadness that the younger woman was feeling.
She had been spending as much time patrolling and helping as she could. Staying busy seemed to be the only thing she could do. When left on her own, the woman was at best a shadowy version of her former self. As cold and distant as she was before it was hard to imagine the woman who replaced her was more cold and distant.
Eve seemed to match her owner’s mood, her bright hued hide becoming somewhat drab in appearance. Not from lack of care though Ky would say letting her emotions affect the flit so was uncaring. Leeto, the large feline who padded just to the right of her wherever she walked, seemed to be the same though even he understood that his owner was not herself. He and Eve both were extra protective of the red head. Eve was sitting on the woman’s shoulder when Precious came out of Between in front of them.
Kyrah’s arrow was raised before they knew what it was that was coming at them. Leeto was at the ready too, crouched prepared to pounce if given leave to do so. The Gold on Kyrah’s shoulder was more relaxed. But then Eve knew exactly who was coming towards them.
The younger Gold chirped in greeting as Precious continued to fly toward Kyrah. The red head soon got a very jarbled bunch of images. Lohgan was in the Weyrhall. She got that much. Yeah and then there was the urgency that the Gold projected in her actions. He must want to meet with her. Leeto was not allowed in the Weyrhall. Not after Emera saw what Akroma’s Shade did to one of the trays. Well needless to say no jungle felines were ever permitted there again.
Leeto understood his commands well and she could trust him most of the time to behave. She left the feline at her mother’s and walked with Eve on one shoulder and Precious on the other into the Weyrhall. It was a short walk but she somehow felt rather foolish with two Gold’s sitting on her. Their hides reflected some of the redness from Kyrah’s hair so they looked a bit fiery.
She smelled the food but was not hungry. The last few days she forced herself to eat food even when she was not hungry. It had been hard enough getting breakfast down. Probably best just to go and see what exactly Lohgan wanted. “Captain Lohgan. You wanted to see me.” She said as she took a seat across from him. Eve chirped to him then laid down on wrapping her tail around Kyrah’s neck.

Precious hopped down off of Kyrah's shoulder and headed for her plate of meat churping in pleasure at finding the one her person wanted to see. Taking a bite off her plate she offered it to Eve, wanting to share. "Thank you Precious for finding Kyrah for me, she wants to share with Eve if that's alright with you." Loghan said after he thanked the little gold. "They made a good looking pair perched on your shoulder that way, for a moment they looked more red then gold." He added with a slight grin.
He knew it had been hard on Kyrah loosing her uncle. It showed in the hue of her gold flit. Nothing was wrong on the care Eve got, she was in good health other then her color showing how distressed hre person was. Loghan was surprised Precious wasn't a bit off color, maybe she was and he just didn't notice. He decided he would make a better effort to try to become more normal.
"Thank you for coming, it wasn't anything urgant. I was just tired of being alone for a bit and wanted some company. How is it going? I know you have been putting in extra hours patroling, I think we all have. Have you found anything amiss anywhere, anything you can see or suggest we make different to help take the surprise out of another attack?" He asked her. Not for one second did he think the hold less wouldn't try again. They were taken by surprise at the resistance Refuge showed. Next time would be different, and they needed to be better prepared.
((Other shield members are welcome to join in any time))

The Gold ruffled her wings and sprung from Kyrah’s shoulders to join Precious. “She might as well eat.” Kyrah shrugged and waited to hear why exactly she had been summoned. Since Eriol’s departure Ky had been paired with the new leader. It would take some time before they were as synched as some of the other pairs when it came to fighting but also when it came to knowing the other person’s thoughts and moods. Loghan was different from Eriol but that in itself was not a bad thing necessarily. Kyrah was simply one who took a long time to learn to trust someone explicitly.
He wanted company? And he asked for her? She could have laughed at another time when she wasn’t so distracted by loss. Of all people at the Weyr, Kyrah was not one to be a conversationalist. “Oh.” Nodding she answered, “As well as can be.” With her favorite person in the world gone it was hard to make a reply without sounding completely dead pan.
“There are places we should consider having a better night watch at for sure. We’re going to need to recruit more Guards and even more Shield Members to get the amount of security we want. I heard the Candidate Master was looking to get the Candidates to train under a craft, we could see if any of them want to train to be Shields in case all else fails.” Meaning in case the Candidates didn’t impress.
Kyrah was never really interested in being a rider. Her age did not preclude her from standing and nor did anyone else. Quite simply she loved her job already, why would she want another one. It couldn’t hurt to recruit more people from the Candidates and other places of the Weyr. None of her brothers had any inclination to be Shield Members, or even guards. Her uncle had not taken the time to train them like he had her. She had been rather special to him and treated her like his own daughter. Her mother was a busy woman and her father was out of the picture.
“I know Jarshan and Akroma have been working on what areas need to be looked into. We might want to think about buying some Watch Whers from the North someday. It could be helpful to have them for when the dragons are sleeping.” Kyrah would be the one to start a conversation about bringing more animals to the Weyr, even if these were of draconic blood. Nothing wrong with more well trained critters!

Jarshan didn't move, making like a shadow as she leaned on the wall chewing a bit of meatroll. Even Shield had to eat ... actually, they tended to out-eat even Dragonriders. It wasn't exactly easy work and they burned a lot of energy doing what they did. But her gaze was locked as she watched as Lohgan had not only entered, but set about his lunch. Soon afterward, Kyrah showed up to sit with him, apparently summoned by his gold. Her having two golds on her shoulders tended to remove all doubt in that direction.
Jarshan wasn't sure she trusted this new Captain like she had the old one. And that trust wasn't going to be easily earned either. She'd watch him like a hawk. He had a much higher standard to live up to now, in her eyes. He could just be a Shield, in being the supposed leader he had better really be up to snuff. She certainly wasn't going to like it if he started doing questionable things.
Kyrah being summoned all by itself wasn't questionable however. In fact, it was rather benign. But with ears akin to that of her feline, Jarshan did notice when her name was dropped. It was a rather distinctive name, there was no way she'd miss that.
Shoving off of the wall, Jarshan made her way between the tables and chairs with movements fluid an graceful. Even if the expression held on her features was by far nothing pleasant. "What's this now?" She demanded when she reached them, before stuffing the last bite of her roll into her mouth.

Akroma was tired. But who wasn’t. There was so much work that needed to be taken care of after the attack. Even now there was still an endless list of things that needed to be done. And all that on top of their regular patrols. The work didn’t bother her, in fact she was rather grateful for it. But she was still exhausted.
She ignored everything as she walked through the Weyrhall, going straight to the food and more importantly the klah. Short of someone trying to kill her, nothing was more important then those two things. The klah was the first thing she grabbed, sipping at the hot energizing drink as she grabbed a few meat rolls and treated herself to a bubbly pie. She refilled her cup before she looked around for an empty place to sit. Her eyebrow quirked up as she spotted their new leader, Ky, and Jarshan all sitting together. Had she forgotten about a meeting?
Making a beeline for the rest of the Dragon Shield, she set down her tray and plopped down with the rest of them. Nibbling on a meat roll, her brown eyes moved over each of them, trying to figure out what was going on and what she had missed. Or what she was interrupting.

"Hello you two, grab some klah and join us? We were just discussing some things that might need improving for security reasons, like perhaps seeing if we could recruit others in the shield, and perhaps beefing up more watches. Any ideas you may have would be most important to me." Logan said without a do, making sure he included them in his conversation. "I'll let Kyrah finish telling you her suggestions while I get these beautiful golden ladies more meat." He finished by getting up and grabbing the small platter the drudge had put some meat on for Precious. The pair might as well get full, he loved to see his pretty sharing.
((Its not very good, I apologize))

The red head responded to Jarshan the way she normally did with a respectful nod. She figured the woman had heard her name by the way she had approached. Kyrah never said anything about people that wasn’t true so the woman need not be concerned. Akroma soon joined in and their fearless leader let her, the youngest member and least experienced tell them what they were doing. Joy!
“Indeed. I was remarking that you two might have some ideas on improvements to the Weyr’s defenses. I was making the suggestion that we have Watch Whers bred from the Holds to guard the Weyr at night when the dragons are sleeping. I don’t know if that would be helpful but it couldn’t hurt to have another alert system. Personally I don’t see them attacking during the day next time. Dragons are more vulnerable at night when they can’t see.”
There was also her idea about the Candidates. “You know how the Candidate Master was looking for Crafts for the Candidates to get involved in, why not recruit some into the Guard? The more people trained in combat the better.” Kyrah was not about to let any more of her family die to the Holdless. She would never fully come to terms with the death of her uncle.
When you were only close to a few people those few people took more of their heart with you once lost. Kyrah’s eyes were scanning the faces of the two women, wondering what their thoughts were on her suggestions. Being younger and less experienced she fully expected them to tell her she was thinking like a rookie. Maybe her ideas were not thoughtfully planned out yet but they were only ideas at this point. “Thoughts?”
Eve sat next to Precious, waiting patiently for the food that was promised to her. She took the time stretch one wing out and examine the wing then did the same with the other. After this little routine she checked her claws to be sure they were clean.

Jarshan smirked for a moment, then blew a sigh. "Whers would probably be a good idea. But make sure they have handlers and aren't just generic chained-down beasts. We don't need chained whers, we need patrols. Whers would give the Holdless more pause as well. Where Dragons can't and won't hurt people, whers are more than happy to tear them in half and eat them." Jarshan pointed out with a nod. "But getting some that are properly controlled via competent handlers is going to be a trick worth hurdling."
As much as she had protested it at the time, Jarshan had to admit that adding the oversized felines to the Shield had been a good idea. They were faster and if anything more lethal than the Shield was. More interestingly - they listened to whomever it was that had trained them.
But ... She shook her head. "No Candidates in the Shield." She said firmly. "I have no problems with one or two Shield participating in a combat training class for young folk, candidates, whatever. But actually enlisting is not something to be done blithely. We, all of us, had qualifications. We were sharding good at what we did long before we got here, and got better. This is not the Guard. This is the Shield. A big difference there. Not anyone can just walk up and say 'hey I want a job'. We are Shield. I have no problem with adding another team or two. But Candidates aren't trained right, they don't have the skills, and they're certainly too young to even be effective in most cases."
But then ... standing as arguably one of the oldest Shield, it was kind of ironic for her to say that at the same time. To Jarshan, most of the Shield were young whippersnappers. But she definitely didn't like the idea of Candidates. "Our numbers should come from the Guard. The best of their best can train to start becoming one of us." Adults with skills.

Loghan entered the conversation at this point, first setting the plate of meat down for the golden ladies, then the tray with cups and a pitcher of Klah. He poured them each a cup not asking. He figured they would or they wouldn't, no sweat off his Flits nose. " Jarshan, how do you expect those candidates to get trained? How do they learn to protect theirs? I hear they didn't do too bad a job during the raid. I also agree with you that they are a bit young. I'm thinking that perhaps the Weyrlings could be cross trained for 'potential Shield. At least those that may be interested. rest days might be a good time for training the fundamentals in protecting themselves." He said getting settled more comfortably and taking another sip of his refreshing steaming brew.
" I think Kyrah is definatly on the right track." He said giving the youngest member a quick nod. He liked her skills and hoped she would turn out to make him a good partner in the Shield. " I also agree that more watchweyrs at precise points 'with' handlers are a good idea too Jarshan, might be a good thing for some older ones not concidered good for other things to do too. The felines are a bigger help then I thought they would be." He said taking another sip.
" Akroma, your thoughts?" He asked looking at her. Seriously dangerous person and not to be underestimated, none of them were. He wished they would relax, he was just a Shield member himself before he became leader. They all had worked with him and knew his skills. Ah perhaps they just needed time.
Gathering a sleepy precious up to snuggle across his shoulders, Loghan waited for the ladies, no Shield members comments and ideas. Sipping his Klah and softly rubbing soft golden eye ridges, he relaxed, first time in days.

Jarshan just looked at Loghan for a long, silent moment whereupon anyone could have imagined all kinds of things being imagined and executed. But she reined it all in before finally opening her mouth. "I did say train them. I also said not to make them Shield. I have nothing against the Shield training Candidates ... or anyone else for that matter. But. Being Shield is not something to be taken lightly, and certainly not something to be taken by someone young, or otherwise involved with dragons directly. One cannot be Shield and a Rider too." She pointed out. "It is a division of loyalty." Not to mention Riders spent fully half their time just taking care of their dragon. They didn't have time to be Shield.
"I have no problems with training people. In fact I have already begun to do just that, taking a few individuals and training them to be better with weaponry. I only have a problem with this being a supposed method of recruitment to the Shield. I am aware we are few and need to grow. But this is the wrong way to do it. We are the Elite of the Elite. The Shield will stop being this, if we allow any old pansy to join up. Then we will be little better than the Guard, if not worse. Even the Guard is more choosy than that." She pointed out. "I say we recruit from the Guard. From seasoned and experienced fighters. And only the very best of that." It was where she had come from, after all. The Guard could turn out all sorts of really interesting folk that could grow to be more.
"Train the Weyrlings to protect themselves, yes. Crosstrain them to be Shield? Definitely not." Jarshan reiterated firmly. Though, she was not the Leader and really had no say in the matter once it was decided ... or even in deciding it. But she could rattle the bars and make noise endlessly if she felt like it ... as well as refusing to participate in such foolishness. Babysitting was not her job.
Due to being a tad irked at having to repeat herself, on things she'd already said, Jarshan completely ignored the supplied cups of drink. She was just a little too irritated to do anything so relaxed as that. One thing she really hated was repeating herself. Most people didn't dare make her do so ... but then most people who encountered her never encountered anyone after they encountered her, either. A knife to the vitals was an easy thing to repeat, but rarely necessary - especially considering Jarshan was all about efficiency.

Loghan leaned back against the wall pulling his cup of Klah with him. He continued to lightly stroke Precious' favorite places as he listened to Jarshan talk. The only hint to his thoughts and feelings was the perfectly timed twitching of his Golden ladies tail. He took in the woman's stance and the sound of her voice. He wasn't sure he was missing the hint of irritation coming from Jarshan. He must have missed something when he went to get the meat and drinks. He decided to let it go for now and see what played out.
"I understand your feelings about the Candidates being too young. And for awhile all their time would be taken up with their dragons, however, I would appreciate your extending your weapons training to include them, and perhaps the Weyrlings too. I am not expecting you to babysit if that's how you are feeling about things. I feel every bit of help is usefull even if at the moment its just to protect themselves." He answered Jarshan looking straight at her and not flinching.
Gathering his thoughts a moment he continued, "I also think that perhaps checking the guard out closely for possible recruits wouldn't hurt, or for that matter anyone you may feel would be an asset to the Shield. That includes all of you, if you have seen anyone you feel would work out, I'd like to know." He finished saying as he sipped his Klah still thinking.
"Akroma, you are being awfully quiet. Care to share your thoughts?" Loghan asked looking over his steaming cup of Klah. They were all important to the safety of the Weyr, and personally if he wasn't a member he would sign up just to keep from making a mestake and being on the wrong side of one of their blades. He knew none of them would hesitate to take him or any of each other shield member out if they went bad. He himself would in a heart beat.
"Any thing else you can think of ladies?" He asked setting his empty cup down but remained where he was. He felt there was something else they might have on their minds. He waited.

Everything had gotten out of hand here. She’d not once suggested Candidates be part of the Shield. Her cheeks began to feel hot as she listened to the more experienced members of the Shield discuss what she had and had not said. Next time maybe she wouldn’t say anything and avoid all of this miscommunication. Eve was not concerned about any of the conversation in the least. She was happily eating some more food with Precious. Well that would be her last meal for a while. She refused to let Eve become fat.
Kyrah held her tongue for the rest of the conversation though. Even when Lohgan asked if they had anything else to add she kept her thoughts to herself. She was done with giving her input for the time being. “I’d better be off… I have some things to get done…” Which was completely untrue but she could certainly find things to do with her time. Something more fun than watching Jarshan and Lohgan argue about nothing.
The red head stood, not really waiting for a dismissal. They all would come to terms with the fact that Kyrah was not ready to be back to normal. She was keeping her distance from them as much as she could. The less people she got close to the better. Eve left the table for her owner’s shoulder chirping a goodbye towards Precious. Leeto would need a good romp outside the Weyr, she could certainly use that as an excuse to walk the Weyr’s perimeter searching for the weakest areas.

Loghan kept his face clear of any thoughts or emotions when Kyrah excused herself. He had noticed the tension between they youngest and the oldest female shield members. For now he kept his thoughts to himself. It wasn't worth arguing about, and that wasn't the point here, he asked for input and he had gotten input. Only thing he couldn't figure out was why Akroma was being silent.
Precious cheeped a goodbye to Eve, turning around three times in his arms, she faced the other Shield ladies watching them closely. A'miri just sipped his Klah and waited.

Jarshan glanced at Kyrah and couldn't help but sympathize with the younger Shield. She was getting tired of talking to Lohgan pretty fast. It was about as productive as talking to a wall for all that he seemed to understand her. She was pretty sure she had said there were no problems with training people. Her only quibbles came in who got initiated as Shield. But ... she wasn't going to keep saying the same thing over and over in hopes that the oyster would understand her.
This was why she didn't involve herself in politics. Leave that to the people who like flapping their jaws, was her opinion. She would do the stabbing and things of that nature. She was sharding good at that part.
"Hang on, Kyr, I'll give you a hand." Jarshan volunteered, simply heading after her without any preamble toward the rest of the gathering. It was probably a bit high and mighty of her, but Jarshan rarely felt the need or inclination to explain herself to anyone. She did what she pleased and hardly anyone dared to contradict her.
Thankfully most of the time what she pleased was in the best interests of those around her, even if in a fashion that those around her probably didn't like much. Coarse, she certainly was.
