Keylen cleared his voice nervously. He had to think for a moment. He spoke in a soft quiet voice his answer to the question at hand and waited with baited breath. " The current Weyrleader is A'lez of bronze Nienoth. " He paused and waited to see if he was correct. He was terrible nervous to of made it this far and make a mistake would be devastating and he really didn't want to get this one wrong.
He looked around at the others as he waited he wondered if they were just as nervous as he was. He noticed one the others was looking at him and offered a smile of encouragement.

Trelia was late coming in dressed in a brown light weight dress and it was loose fitting around her small figure. She had been in the lower caverns with chores and ran in looking disheveled. The candidate looked around the joined most of the others to the right and listened to the questions being listed. Her face showed how tired she was and like everyone else the candidate couldn't wait for the hatching. A few questions she heard we're easy and prayed that she got a easy one.
Her experience with candidate masters we're that they tried to weed out the weak from the strong. She stood up straight and would not let the older man intimidate her. The young woman had been through too much in her life and would not let anything affect her impressing. Trelia wanted to ride more then anything and stood looking around then waited for her turn. A friend of hers Zayten was answering a question and she smiled at him.

Nodding as he heard Keylen’s answer he recognized the encouraging smile he offered the other candidates and made a mark on the hide before him. “Correct Keylen, go get fitted for your robes and return here till everyone is done.” Getting the young man’s name with messy hair, Arlin also wrote that down. An updated list is always useful and by the Shell they needed a full time Candidate Master. “Thank you, Parallel. And which wing is it that Weyrleader A’lez leads, Parallel?” He watched the young man for a moment. The wings and who lead them was something the Weyrlings were going to need to know, so there was no sense in keeping the information from the candidates in Arlin’s opinion. Looking at the group on the left, Arlin’s eyes fell on the two young women there. Sometimes those hopeful for a gold egg were easy to pick out from the crowed and other times it was a little more difficult. There was confidence in the way the young lady named Lyndel held herself while Eira was obviously paying close attention. Both qualities would benefit a goldrider. “For those candidates hopeful to impress a queen dragon, be prepared to be disappointed. Even so, you had best also be prepared to take the place of a Jr. Weyrwoman.” Letting his eyes finally settle on his next victim, he gave her a little more challenging of a question. “Lyndel, who traditionally flies in the Queen’s Wing?” It was a trick question with three possible answers, but if she gave all three it would only go to show she was ready for the next steps. Giving pause to let the young lady think on that, he turned to the other one. “And Eira, Our past makes us who we are today. Name the Six original Weyrs of the North.” Just like the question he had given Lyndel, it was a more complex answer and more chances to get it wrong. But if either woman hoped to impress a little queen, they had to be ready to be put on a whole different tier of training.

Parallel
Smiling a little, pleased with his question, Parallel answered swiftly, "A'lez of bronze Nienoth leads the Illume Wing, sir." Though he had been prepared for a much harder question, he was glad that his was quite simple. He awaited permission before stepping over to be fitted for his white robes.
Marlaey
Marlaey was listening closely as the weyrharper spoke of the future goldrider. She was a little disappointed that he hadn't even looked her way, but then, maybe he didn't know who was standing for the gold? Or maybe she just didn't have what it took to be a goldrider? A feeling of failure settled over her, but she tried valiantly to dispel it, reminding herself again that colour didn't matter. If she was destined for gold then she would Impress the Queen, but if she was meant for something else that was alright too. I would be wrong to be selfish in this situation.
Running through everything she knew about the weyr, she waited quietly for her question.

As the other candidates answered their questions, Eira paid attention to all of what was asked. Simply, because it was how she was and always had been. She paid attention to the Weyr lessons like she paid attention to when her father taught her healing methods, and that was very closely. The young woman couldn't help it, if she were to impress any dragon it would do both herself and the dragonet good. Simply because she knew that if she knew next to nothing, it could spell disaster if one really thought about it. For a brief moment, she watched the other candidates leave to be fitted before turning her attention back onto Arlin.
In a way, it seemed like it was just in time, seeing as it was like the older man was studying herself and Lyndel. He spoke of the candidates hopeful to impress a queen dragon and to be prepared to be disappointed. It didn't bother her one bit, Eira was not looking to impress the gold. In fact, if she didn't impress any dragon it would not bother her and she would just go into healing like she had planned to do in the first place. Still, she would not deny the fact that if she were to impress a dragon, she would be a little surprised. Even though she tended to be a very good student, she did not think she was the best of the bunch to be impressed. Simply because there were those more enthusiastic about the hatching than herself and she always thought that they were the more deserving ones.
Either way, Lyndel was asked her question and Eira waited before the older man asked her her own. For a brief moment she thought about the question, she did not want to make a fool of herself by getting it wrong. “Fort, Igen, Benden, High Reaches, Telgar, and Ista were the six original Weyr's of the north.” She replied softly, while in a way it was a harder question she was surprised in herself that she was able to let the names roll off her tongue.

Keylen smiled brightly as he got the answer right just as he should. He nodded respectfully. "Yes Sir. " He followed after Zayten into the other room. He went over to one of the women waiting and stood very still as they took down the measurements and pinned up the bottom of the robe to adjust it to his height. He did happen to notice that Zayten seemed very much at ease with the ladies. He wondered briefly if they were well acquainted.
After he was fitted and they gave him leave to return. He went back to the common room to wait for all the others to get done.

Listening to both Parallel and Eira give their answered, he nodded to each in turn. “Correct, go get your robes.”
Turning to the last tall male on the left side of the room, Arlin gave Rinkin a good look. “What’s your name, young man?” Waiting for it patiently, he wrote it down once receiving it. “And do you know the average length of an adult blue dragon?” The young man was in no danger of impressing gold, so he kept a few of his other, longer questions for the women he would be getting to on the other side of the room.
In fact, it was a this time he took a good look at those on the right side of the room. Many were young and still growing, though a few were probably as tall as they ever would be. Eyes falling upon them, he found his attention caught by a young boy who looked completely embarrassed and to Arlin’s amusement it was a boy he recognized. “Jared, stand up straight and don’t look so embarrassed boy, you’ve just as much right to be here as anyone else.” Knowing the boy would eventually be a wingrider, he gave him a question geared toward the wings. “Jared, who leads the Shadow Wing here at Refuge Weyr? And stop that blushing, you know the answer.”
As amused as he was at Jared’s embarrassment, he found himself turning his attention to the women of this group. Women only stood when a queen egg was suspected to be on the sands. That meant each of the women before him were originally searched as gold candidates. “As a gold rider, you will also be the record keeper of the Weyr. You need to know your history as well as the riders of your Weyr.”
Turning to two he had the pleasure of teaching in his own Harper Lessons, he chose them first to answer questions. “Laure, was Weyrwoman Raelwyn raised in Hold or Weyr as a child?” Letting her have a moment to think back on the facts she knew, he turned to the quiet Marlaey. “And Marlaey, from the six Weyr’s Eira listed, which three came together to found our Weyr, here at Refuge?”

Rinkin saw the very stern man look at him and start to address him then said, "Rinkin and that would 25-30 meters long," then shut his mouth. He was not going to upset this man and watched as he wrote down his answer then seem to hit the girls with harder questions. The candidate took a breath of relief because the harder questions we're going to them yet they had more of a difficult chore. If one of them impressed a gold then they would lead the weyr in the future and he just looked at them. A terrible weight rested on their shoulders more then him and he was thankful for it.

Jared
Jared blushed hardre, but did his best to stand up straighter and stop fidgeting. He nearly cried when Arlin asked him his question. Oh shards, who was it again? He was sure he'd had this conversation with someone, maybe Vaylee, but someone around here had definitely taught him who led what wing.
Then, like a lightening bolt, it hit him. "D'seus!!, he practically yelled in his excitement, "D'seus of Bronze Zorometh." Grinning from ear to ear he was full of pride at answering his question correctly.
Marlaey
The weyr history? That was alright. Marlaey spent most of her time listening to the goings on in the weyr and asking questions all of the time so that wouldn't really be a problem. But she wasn't too fond of the idea of record keeping. It didn't sound very interesting, actually it sounded downright boring! But she probably didn't have to worry about it anyway.
Answering quickly she said, "Fort, Igen and Benden came together and formed this weyr, sir."
