To that, Amnixiel just chuckled mirthlessly. "I was born a Holdless brat, woman. Those begotten of a cause cannot exactly join what is their birthright. No more than you could have decided randomly to go and become a Weyr-brat. You either are or you aren't. Switching causes never goes over well anyway... spies and executions and what all."
She shrugged, over her little spat enough to be civil again.
"I see you have your own firelizard, there... and what if your wonderful feline there was to munch him down like so much fodder? Hm? How would you feel? Ramuda was my heart, my soul, and it did not pass quietly in the night in a manner I could forgive. She was ripped out, shredded, and defiled, and I will hunt the felines to extinction if I must to avenge that wrong. By the eggs on your dragon-sands, woman - she was just a baby!"
Amnixiel exhaled, and looked at the far wall of her cell.
"You really do think you're all that and a tub of preserves, don't you? Heh. When you're as old as me, everyone as old as you are now will seem so very unenlightened and childish... you won't understand until then. Let me my problems, little girl... and I'll try to tolerate your arrogance."

“I wasn’t born in the Weyr but I’m still a part of it. We’ve seen others who have been born in Weyrs or cotholds and joined the Holdless as well. You people don’t seem too picky about who joins so long as they’re ruthless and blood thirsty. You’ll take whatever scum you can get.” Akroma had yet to be impressed with most of the Holdless she had come across. Many of them were reckless and ended on the end of her blade. The rest ended up on the end of her blade as well, though more for how mouthy they got rather then trying to attack her.
The young woman looked between her flitter and her feline, giving a slight shrug. Everything had to die sooner or later. “So your fire lizard became food for something else. Like most other things that wander into a felines territory. That’s how the world works. The little things get eaten by the bigger things, it doesn’t matter how shiny and pretty they are. Even babies die before they have a chance to grow up. That’s part of life.”
She shook her head a little as the older woman rambled about age. For being so much older and wiser, Amnixiel seemed rather naïve when it came to her dead fire lizard. A baby fire lizard had been her heart and soul? It all seemed rather pathetic to Akroma. “Fear not, my current company seems childish enough to me. And if you think I'm arrogant then I may have to go find a bronze rider for you to have a chat with. If nothing else, you'll have the chance to learn what arrogance really looks like during your stay here."

Amnixiel shook her head. They would probably all try to outdo themselves with airs and arrogance. It was normal. "And what good do you suppose that would do, hm? A bronze rider, bugged by the likes of me, and at your fault. Me, irritated by more of your ilk, pompous display or not? No, I don't think that's even worth the mention, and I think you know that. It's a ridiculous notion."
The Holdless shrugged her wiry shoulders. "You wouldn't be so callous when it is yours who perish needlessly, girl. I dare you to watch your feline torn to scraps of meat and fur, and to see as your flitter is mauled into mush and fractured bones before your eyes, and I dare you to feel nothing. I want to be there to see it when you do, because I want to see how such a cold, heartless bitch could ever have gained the trust or companionship of such unjudging, loving creatures as the beings of the animal kingdom provide. They would have abandoned your side long ago if you were truly so uncaring. So, you're lying. You think me addled, little girl? Stop your arrogant preening and be civil, and serious, for once! That's all I ask."
Eventually, something would come of this endless prattle... something rather had to.
