Trelia couldn't believe it that she was at a Refuge Weyr and sighed carrying a bag full of her clothes. She walked into the candidate barracks to find a empty bed and found one at the end of a few rows. The candidate had transferred after the attack on Haven and the fact that there we're actual eggs on the sands. While with a smile she started to put away her things in the trunk in front of the bed then changed into a working dress and tied a apron around her. "Wow," said Trelia as she looked around there we're a lot of empty bed and knew that their weren't a lot of candidates.
She was tired and laid down on the bed to get some rest it had been a long journey. Trelia wanted to impress a dragon very badly and knew that this would be her chance. The hold less had ruined her chances back at Haven and she didn't want revenge just wanted them to leave the weyr alone. It was a common thought that went through her head and knew that impressing would make her a target she didn't care. "I can't wait," mumbled Trelia as she ended up falling asleep thinking of dragons that turned into dreams.

Though Zayten was a Weyrbrat and therefore didn't have to move into the candidate barracks, he figured it would be fun. His brother hadn't be interested in joining him in the barracks, preferring to stay in the Lower Caverns where he wouldn't be forced to pack a small selection of items to bring. But Zayten was less of a pack rat then his brother and had no problem limiting his things. He did feel bad for those candidates that had come from outside the Weyr, especially the ones from Haven. Their home had been attacked and then they had been uprooted and sent to Refuge. He wasn't sure if he could have dealt with something like that. Assuming that few people would be in the barracks when they could be wandering the Weyr or enjoying one of the nicer days of the week, Zayten didn't make much of an effort to be quiet as he pushed his way into the barracks, his arms loaded with the items he thought he would need. He dropped a heavier chest on the ground before looking around and flinching slightly as he realized that there was someone there. Not only that but they had been taking a nap before his rude awakening. "Er sorry 'bout that..."

Trelia had been sleeping soundily when she was awakened with loud noise to see a young man and then rubbed her eyes then said, "It's okay,". She pushed herself up then looked around and took a better look at the guy that had awakened her. "Wow, that's a lot of stuff," said Trelia with a smile at him then put her feet on the ground. "I'm Trelia," said Trelia a curious look on her face afterall she didn't notice anyone else around. It was assumed that he was a candidate since he was in here. "So you a candidate too," asked Trelia as she looked at him?
The candidate took a better look and noticed that he was about her age or maybe older. Trelia had to admit that she was thankful that the other candidate was not a lot younger then her. "Are you from around here," asked Trelia as she looked at him and sighed missing her family at home? Her heart really missed her family and hoped that this trip wasn't for nothing that she did impress.

Zayten looked down at his things and chuckled a little bit before shrugging. "If I can carry it all in one load it can't be that much." He pushed the chest of items over near a bed so it wasn't sitting right in the doorway. He'd have to move it to the boys section sooner or later but right now he was tired from lugging it around. Plus, it would be rude to just walk away from his fellow candidate. "Zayten. And yep, another candidate. My brother is one as well but he didn't feel like making the move. We're both Weyrbrats here."
The young man sat down on a bed across from Trelia, frowning a bit. He hoped not all the matteress were so lumpy. Maybe that was half the reason Eirzay hadn't wanted to move into the barracks. Maybe he'd have to try and find a way to smuggle a nice matters into her. "Since I don't know you I take it that means you're not from Refuge. Are you from one of the holds or..." He didn't want to ask flat out if she was from Haven, it just didn't seem like the tactful thing to do. He knew that Haven had sent over some of their own candidates but he didn't know if any of them had arrived yet.

Trelia listened for a moment then breathed in when he started to talk about where she might be from. "I'm from Haven," said Trelia with a look away because she was still upset from what had happened. She had been trying to keep that secret yet there was no getting around it and sighed looking at him. "I broke a arm in the attack and was sent over because your gold has recently been flown," said Trelia. The young woman had a saddened look on her face it had been a dream of hers to impress at home and to protect her own home. "What color are you hoping for," asked Trelia as she waited for his answer?
The young woman secretly hoped for a gold yet kept it quiet for feared for being one of those girls that everyone immediately was pegged for only desiring gold. She was quiet then looked away and waited for his answer. It was only two choices for her either a green or gold while the guys we're lucky they had three choices.

Zayten nodded a little. Of course he and everyone else at Refuge knew what had happened at Haven. But at least the girl wasn’t the only candidate from Haven, leaving her home had to be hard but at least she had some others here as well who could understand everything she was going through.
At the color question, Zayten only chuckled a little. There were really only two colors someone like him could Impress, green and blue. Yes there was a chance he might get a brown but he was pretty sure he wasn’t the brown type. Not that he minded, he felt bad for anyone who didn’t get a green, they seemed to have the most fun. Of course he was a little biased. “I’m hoping for a green or a blue. I’m pretty sure I’ll get a green, my brother Impressed one and both of my half-sisters Impressed to greens. I think it’s a family trait. Not that I mind. Who’d want to have some stuffy gold or egotistical bronze when you can have something fun and playful? Plus, it’s a lot less work to wash and feed the smaller dragons. One of my half-sisters was telling me about one of the bronze riders in the last clutch, half of his day was spent either elbow deep in raw meat for his dragon or in the lake trying to wash him.” Annnd of course there was the flights as well. While Zayten had never been quite as active as his half-sisters were known to be, he still enjoyed sharing another person’s bed once in a while. Made things a lot less lonely and boring.

She turned away a little embarrassed that her desire to ride a gold dragon. The candidate continued to listen to him and he did make some good points then said, "I have to admit that I'm one of those people,". Trelia took a deep breath then looked at him then said, "I would love a gold dragon," then was very quiet. It had been a dream to ride a gold and lead yet she hadn't told many people. The beautiful dragons we're too rare and she had to admit there was little chance that she would be chosen with all the other girls present. "I know foolish yet I would love to," said Trelia then sighed then got up to her trunk and took out a old bracelet putting it on.
"I had hoped that it would happen at the home weyr it doesn't matter though," said Trelia as she looked at him and folded her arms. Trelia said, "I hope it is soon since your gold has risen," then smiled a little. The woman believed on keeping a positive attitude after all that had happened and was disolved to learn how to fight. "I hope here that your women candidates can learn how to fight," said Trelia she would never be caught off guard again.

Zayten snickered a bit but wasn’t surprised. What girl didn’t dream of getting a gold? And really, what boy didn’t dream of getting a bronze? Maybe by the time it came to being a candidate some had changed their minds and realized that they weren’t suited for the role the came with being a gold or bronze rider. Zayten had learned at an early age that even if he had been interested in a leadership position, his personal tastes would have prevented him from getting a bronze dragon.
Though he had always wondered if maybe he could get a gold. Others were less amused with his idea.
“It’s not foolish. At least I don’t think it is. It would be foolish for me to hope for a bronze. While I have the good looks needed to Impress them, I lack other important traits. But if you’re hoping for a gold then your case probably isn’t as helpless as mine is.” He crossed his legs and leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. “For starters, don’t let anyone tell you its foolish or silly to want the gold. I’m pretty sure the golds like girls who don’t let others push them around. Second, well just have some faith in yourself. I mean, I’m sure coming here has been hard for you and everyone else from Haven, but you were sent here instead of another candidate. And I doubt every candidate from Haven got to come here so that means someone back home as faith that you’re meant to be here.”
Zayten tapped his fingers against his jaw slightly. The flight had happened a while ago and everyone was expecting the eggs to be laid any day now. Some of the riders were even taking bets on how soon it would happen. “Aeriath should be laying the eggs any day now so you shouldn’t have to wait for too much longer before we can sneak a peek and see how many there are. If it’s anything like the last hatching then it’s no wonder she’s taking her time with him. Last clutch had close to forty eggs in it. I think everyone is hoping this clutch is a little smaller.” He chuckled a little before nodding to her next question. Every weyrling had to take fighting lessons. His half sisters hadn’t enjoyed that part of the lessons. And none of the weyrlings were up to Shield standards when it came to fighting but he didn’t think any of them were helpless. “Oh yeah, everyone learns how to fight a little bit. I mean it’s mostly just basic stuff I think but it’s something. And I’m sure you could even ask around and try to find a Shield member who has some free time, see if you can’t get personal lessons from them. Or even one of the guards. I don’t think anyone is really going to say no to that, especially not since the attack.”

She smiled at him then asked, "So I take it your interested in guys," with a curious eyebrow? Trelia sighed then said, "If you are that's a shame," then winked at him and smiled a little. "I hope that the eggs are laid soon and just that their healthy," said Trelia as she folded her legs and looked at him. The young woman wanted to ride very badly and couldn't really live with the disappointment of going home to a hold and not impressing. Her family would be disappointed and sighed a little then looked at him. "That's a great idea I'm sure I can meet one of those guys when I get to know some people better," said Trelia. While she hadn't meet any shield people yet and just had heard stories.
She started to whistle for a moment then looked over at him then asked, "Did all the eggs impress last time or did you lose some,"? Trelia was curious about things and who better to ask then someone who was local. The truth was that she had heard horror stories of some dragons going in between because no candidate was found suitable. "I'd heard stories that it does happen at times," said Trelia looking at him.

“Me? Interested in guys? Why maybe just a little. And don’t worry, girls aren’t totally out of the question. I’m far too nice and cute to do that.” He winked right back at her and grinned. His sisters were gorgeous, bronze riders were hot and Zayten knew that he was cute enough to be appealing to girls and guys. Which worked out well for him. “Oh I’m sure the eggs will be laid soon, don’t worry. I think Aeriath is just teasing us by making us wait this long. Probably hoping to give the Headwoman a heartattack by making her think she’s going to lay another massive clutch.” He wasn’t worried about the eggs being healthy, Aeriath was a young and healthy gold dragon and the same could be said for the bronze Neinoth.
“Well right now you might have better luck getting some help from the normal guards, since Haven the Shield has been working even harder to make sure that nothing happens here, they might be a little too busy, especially if you have no training at all. I say go talk to a guard, get some basic stuff down while getting to know some of the Shield members. I’m sure they’ll love the idea of more people wanting to get better at defending themselves.” Zayten would go through the basic stuff if he was lucky enough to become a weyrling but other then that he wasn’t interested in fighting. He was a lover, not a hater and was more likely to find the fastest way out of a bad situation and let the professionals handle it then try to be a hero. Hurting and killing people was something he didn’t have much interest in.
“No, all the eggs hatched and found someone. All the dragonets were healthy as well and only a few candidates were hurt by the gold. But overall it was good clutch and was pretty exciting to watch. I think most people were surprised that Northerners were allowed to stand and that most of them even Impressed. But so far Aeriath hasn’t lost any of her babies for any reason. But I know the queen we had before Aeriath had some bad clutches at the end. The first hatching I ever got to see part of it was horrible, only a few eggs and all of them died. I skipped a bunch of the hatchings after that until my brother Impressed.”

"That's awful," said Trelia as she looked at him thinking about all those young dragons lost or not hatching at all. She said, "I definatley will ask one of the guards for some help," then smiled for a moment. "I don't have any family members who are riders must be exciting," said Trelia as she looked at him and had to just imagine. When she got up to stretch for a moment then looked at him to ask, "Are there any other girl candidates this place is awfully empty," looking around to almost a empty room? The empty room had only one other bed that was occupied and sighed. She'd heard that very few girls we're searched and knew it had to be true. When at home there had been at least ten girl candidates that would have stood if not for the attack.
"I'm not complaining just wondering," asked Trelia as she looked at him as a guru of knowledge and hoped to have as a friend? She knew that it meant less competition and would almost mean a very lonely time in the barracks. The girls we're often kept to have children and we're only given when a gold was suspected to be on the sands. Her family would have wanted her to be married off and was thankful not to be stuck there now.

"My father was a rider but I barely remember seeing him as a kid before he died. He never had much time for any of his kids really. But it was fun when my brother Impressed, even if he learned how to sucker me and my younger brother into doing his chores just for the chance to go near his green. I only found out about my half-sisters a few turns ago, right before they Impressed so I can't say much about them. But having riders in the family is interesting, I at least have a good idea of what I'm getting into and I'm not as starstruck when I go near dragons now."
Zayten thought for a moment, counting on his fingers as he counted off some of the other candidates in his head. He hadn't met most of them yet but some of them had been pointed out to him and he knew a few of Refge's weyrbrats that would be on the sands. "Well there's a couple more from Haven, and of course Refuge has some candidates as well, search dragons have also been out finding others. Most of Refuge's candidates are probably staying in their own weyrs instead of moving in here while they're candidates. As for the rest..." He could only shrug, maybe some of them were staying with other families in the Weyr, or maybe they just hadn't moved in yet, waiting until it was closer to the hatching. "Just wait, by the time the clutch hatches, there will be plenty of girls here, all hoping to get a gold of their own."

"Good," said Trelia as she smiled at him then felt her stomach rumble a bit. "Do you know a good place to get something to eat," asked Trelia realizing she hadn't ate since coming here? She hadn't really gotten a real feel for the place and didn't know where to find the lower caverns at. Trelia looked over at him and realized that she had just lucked into a friendship at her new home. The young candidate hoped that maybe she would run into some more new people later on and would hopefully be touching some meggs soon.
Trelia took a deep breath and prepared herself to meet more people around here. She knew that competition would be fierce for the eggs yet had great faith after all it was all that she could have. The option of giving up wasn't going to happen and would make the best of anything thrown at her. "Maybe some warm klah would be good to warm me up," said Trelia as she looked at him.

"The Mess Hall is a fine place to eat. I mean, it's not going to beat your mom's cooking I'm sure but it's pretty good. And they always have klah, and half the time someone knows how to make it right so it doesn't taste burned." Zayten got up and pushed his things over to the other side of the room, not wanting his things to be in the way. "Come on, I'll lead you there since I know how confusing this place is at first. You'd think someone would be nice and put up signs to direct people where to go..." A little snack sounded good and a cup of klah always sounded wonderful to the young man.

"Thanks," replied Trelia with a smile as she got up then prepared to follow Zayten to the caverns for some food and klah. She had to admit that she was thankful for a new friend and it lessened the hurt from home. Trelia looked around wondering where the other girls we're and hoped that they would show up very soon. The home weyr had a few other girls yet there we're never as many as the boys. It sometimes seemed unfair that boys got three choices to impress and the girls only had two colors. It was in that moment that she said, "Lead the way," with a smile. Her mind went to another question, "So do you guys have fire lizards here,".
The young candidate hadn't seen any around yet hoped that there we're some because maybe there would be a hatching after a bit. Trelia reasoned though with no pets she could give her dragon if lucky enough to get one her full attention.
