((Skipping a couple of Weyrlings due to the rpers being away))
Hmmm, thought D'seus as he listened to the young man's almost immediate defensive response. There were different sides to people which was why they needed to conduct interviews. Judging people was never easy although a necessary evil when it came down to important things in life. To place the Weyrlings into the wing that would best suit them was for the benefit of not only the Weyrling rider but also for their future wingmates. Breathing deeply he spoke in a calm voice, "Thank you C'mar. You may go now."
Nemesyth have yours come next. The greenrider also had a reputation that preceeded him. Most of what he heard of the Lord Holder's son turned dragonrider was that he had a bit of an attitude towards other people. From his own experience the young man was dependable if hard to get along with at times. D'seus wondered if N'var would find a way to get along no matter what wing he was in or if the young man would be able to adjust to not having his Northern friends around him all the time.
---
Zorometh says you are to go in next. The green reported to her rider before returning to her half sleep on the sunny ledge she had flown to about a candlemark ago. N'var checked to make sure everything was in place before entering what was usually the Weyrlingmaster's office. The two men in front of him then were two of the most well known men of the Weyr. The current Weyrleader and the ex-Weyrleader. Looking at the pair of them, faces like stone not giving any of what they were thinking away, he felt his own confidence tremble a moment.
Only for a moment though because as soon as he was standing before them it seemed the interview had begun. D'seus asked the first question, again his voice revealed nothing about what his thoughts were, "Do you consider yourself successful?" N'var mulled the question over in his mind, trying to find the right words to express his very conflicted mind when it came to that subject. Success was to achieve something one planned or desired to achieve.
N'var answered the only way he could, in his own brutally honest way, " Not particularly. No." He was going to leave it at that but from the expression on the faces of the men before him he figured they wanted an explanation. "I failed in my first mission, the only thing my father trusted me with in my entire life. I failed to convice you that the North was in danger and in need of the help of the dragonriders. For this reason I know people are dying." A palpable silence followed.

The weyrlings cycled through one by one, and as each made their way through their interviews, A'lez made notes on his boards, allowing D'seus to do most of the question asking. Mostly because it would give the recently deposed Bronzerider a sense of usefulness and purpose. D'seus was his friend, in as much as they frequently bashed heads; he would do what he could to make the transition easier on the man.
The next one to come in was a young northern lad, who rode a green according to his notes. That ... had to be a jarring experience. Especially if his notes were right and that this one had been the one 'in charge'. Must really torque his gourd. His air on entrance was of self confidence, but it crumbled and wavered almost immediately; it made A'lez wonder if it was all a facade of bravado meant to fool his perceived underlings, only to crumble in the face of real authority. His answer to D'seus' question didn't help any. He was apparently a kid who saw himself as scorned and would do anything to earn his father's appreciation. How sad. A'lez set his chalk down on the desk before him. The kid was blowing his percieved predicament out of proportion too.
They knew that the North was in danger. Of that they didn't need convincing. The real question was did the North deserve protection? Of that, he was not convinced. But this was neither the time or the place for such a discussion. Nor were people dieing yet from this need. He struck A'lez as a rather needy lad, as well as a tad addicted to exaggeration. Even if he did somewhat understand the desire to recruit help for his home.
"So you failed your father's mission. Have you ever set goals of your own? Did you succeed in those?" A'lez asked.

N'var thought that he would sail through these interviews. Sure he knew they were important and the outcome would be you were placed in an appropriate wing but he was not expecting these questions. He had to think on his feet. The greenrider could make something up or he could tell the truth. Either way would hardly make a difference. He had a feeling both men had already made up their minds about him. Not only through rumors was he known but also the pair of them would have spoken with the Weyrling Master. His father had always said repuation was important. Musing over the latest and last question he would be recieving today, he could think of nothing. He had never been given the opportunity to have his own ideas before coming to the Weyr and his goal now was hardly something he could share with the Weyrleader. His face was a mask of cool collection. "Honestly, my family would never have allowed me a dream or goal of my own. Thus I've never completed anything or done anything that was not the will of someone who had power over me." He paused searching for the right words. No one on Pern was without small goals or things they wanted to achieve. N'var was not going to divulge that he had fallen in love which had been a dream of his when he was younger, to feel loved for who he was and not what he was. "My current short term goal is for Nemesyth and myself to succeed in being placed into one of the best wings of the Weyr. From there we would prove our worth to our wingmates by being the best that we possibly can. I'm afraid we'll have to wait to see if that particular goal comes to pass." With a nod to both men, he was excused by D'seus. ---
"Thank you N'var." D'seus commented as the youth left. Male greenriders were actually less of a hassle sometimes then women but he feared N'var would be a handful in any wing. No doubt he was an excellent dragonrider however getting along with ones wingmates was also a priority and something he sought in his wing. "So we have H'usik of blue Anubith next..." Anubith, send your rider in for his interview. His tone was slightly amused but not by what he had said. Zorometh was watching movement in the bowl from his own ledge. Nothing much was going on this time of day but there were always people to watch. From what he had heard of the next Weyrling pair, H'usik was a quiet sort. Hopefully that meant he knew to take orders without question. He sounded relaible at least. Perhaps he would even make a good searchrider in the future. The answer to that would come later when they had them in wings. Clearing his throat a moment, D'seus waited somewhat impatiently for H'usik to enter. His leg was shaking with pent up energy. The Wingleader hated to sit still for long periods of time. This was almost as torturous for him as it was for the Weyrlings. When the young man entered at last (it seemed a while to D'seus though it was probably not a long wait at all), "What particular skills and qualities do you feel you bring currently to your Weyrling Wing? Are there any skills you would like to develop in the future that you do not have at the present time?"

Zorometh requests you go see D'seus Anubith told his rider. Hu'sik had been waiting for this moment since the interviews had begun. He was a bit nervous, but most everyone must be. He took a deep breath before getting to his feet and heading inside.
He first noticed how tense D'seus seemed. Had he done something wrong? Probably not. Perhaps D'seus was just starting to tire of all of these weyrlings. The Weyrleader probably spent much more time with more experienced riders. Being stuck with younger riders and asking them all sorts of questions could hardly be a welcome change. Hu'sik entered into the room carefully. It didn't take long for D'seus to speak up, and his question brought Hu'sik some reason to think. What qualities did he bring to his wing? "Well," he said, thinking up his words carefully, "I follow orders well, I don't make disturbances, and I'm not usually late for anything." Okay, he could have done better than that, but it wasn't exactly like someone had given him a list of all the questions he would be asked so he could think about them beforehand.
Now, what skills did he want to improve on? Well, there were plenty of those, but all of them seemed to have escaped his mind. Why did that have to happen? "Well, I'd really like to be able to think more objectively." Did that make since at all? he asked himself. "I mean, it's not good to just do things without thinking about them." He couldn't remember at this point if he did do that, but he probably did. Or did he?

A'lez considered the lad for a time. That was most certainly not an answer he would have expected. Though he could definitely see where the lad had problems in needing to develop thinking on the fly skills. He had to admit he hadn't really thought of it as a skill that could be developed. More of a you had it or you didn't. He did seem to try, though, even going so far as to use time-filling words before he spoke, possibly to give him more time to formulate an answer without being disrespectful by not answering.
"There is a difference between being objective and thinking things through. One is a state of impartiality, I hope you realize." A'lez remarked. Given what the lad had said so far, it made A'lez wonder why he was impressed to a blue instead of a brown. It also gave him pause to wonder if there weren't some qualities to him that offset what he was trying to showcase, thus made apparent in the dragon he Impressed. What qualities did he have that made him a Bluerider? But at least he seemed to understand pretty well that he was going to be receiving a lot of orders. Which might have been a point of contention given that this was one of the ones that was from the North. A'lez was still having misgivings about the notion of impressing them to dragons. But so far so good. So far.
"What did you do before you came to the Weyr?" A'lez asked, aware that sometimes Rider skills outside of being Riders were useful.

D'seus was watching as Hu'sik had trouble answering the question. He was nervous being put on the spot. Definately not someone who was used to conversing with other people much. The Weyrling Master was right then. He was a bit quiet and socially akward. Quite honestly there was nothing wrong with being quiet in a wing. However Wing members needed to communicate with eachother. Hopefully Lokinth was better at being social than his rider was. Also being solitary was a lonely road with all the stresses that were placed on dragonriders.
He quite agreed with A'lez's speech and question. Sitting there, keeping his fingers from tapping on the desk by continuing to let his leg bounce with the excess energy, he wondered how the young man would take the criticism and the following question. Here was hoping the young man made a better impression on A'lez after this one. No matter though, the young man was a capable rider. Any wing would be able to use him, though in his wing he might suggest someone to buddy up with the youngster. Just to make sure he was emotionally adjusting to life as a rider well.

Hu'sik had to think about it a bit. He wasn't entirely sure what A'lez wanted him to have been doing, or what he meant. Surely there were a lot of things he had done, but they couldn't all be relevant. "Well, I was a fisher. I learned about sailing ships and finding food on the ocean." It had made the trip to this Continent all the more bearable, since he was used to being on the ocean, whatever the weather might be. He somehow felt they might want more than that from him, but he was already hoping to himself that they didn't expect him to say too much. He didn't really know how too.
He reached to Anubith for comfort. He figured they wouldn't keep him in here much longer, but he didn't want to mess up on this important aspect. They were going to place him in a wing now, and he might be there for his whole life. Whoever he ran into would be his new friends, and he didn't want to end up with the wrong people because, back when he was 17, he hadn't managed to find the words he needed to say.

A'lez glanced at D'seus, noting that the other wingleader was twitching almost uncontrollably now. Maybe it was time to take a break and let the man walk it off. Hopefully he'd stay out of the klah while he was at it! But his attention was soon returned to the youth who was still having quite a lot of trouble with expressing himself.
A fisher. A'lez considered that a moment, and then nodded, reaching forward to the desk top to scratch a few notes alongside the rest. That Hu'sik couldn't express himself very well did concern him greatly, but there were some positive points as well. Theoretically. A'lez would have to keep an eye on the lad to see how he did when he wasn't under pressure. That and to feel out how skilled he was truly. Fishermen were not just harvesters of the sea. They were generally also experts at reading the ocean and the sky. Weathermen as it were. A body with knowledge of clouds, wind and weather would make a very adept Rider.

((short fail post, sorry)
The youth was someone the Wing-leaders would need to discuss. For now though D'seus was more than ready to turn him loose. "Alright Hu'sik. You are dismissed." Waiting for the young man to leave, D'seus got up out of his chair and said to A'lez. "Sorry I just need to get some energy out of my system." He had always, even as a young child had trouble sitting still for long periods of time. Klah had the reverse effect on him than it did other people. Mellowing him rather than making him hyper.
Pacing back and forth for a few minutes would do the trick. In the meantime he thought to discuss the last youth with A'lez. "I'm a bit concerned about that young man." D'seus said though not only because he was quiet, more so that he needed the comfort of his dragon more than anyone else they had interviewed. He lacked confidence in himself. This concerned him because it would effect whatever wing he was placed in.

"Alright." A'lez answered, leaning back in his chair and setting the chalk on the board in front of him. He was quite comfortable to remain where he was, as D'seus paced back and forth. "Spit it out, whatever you're thinking." He prompted, aware that D'seus was more than bothered if it was something that had to be said right now, instead of later. "To be perfectly honest, I am quite concerned about almost all of them. Some of them more than others, to be sure. But what specifically is torquing your gourd?"
Of course it was no secret that A'lez had been against the whole idea of allowing the Northerners anywhere near the Hatching sands. But what was done, was done. Now, they just had to deal with the repercussions. Of course, that didn't mean that the Southern youngsters didn't give him their own ways of worrying him. Some people were natural Dragon Riders ... some had to work at it. And then there were the few that were just the poor saps that were not cut out for it, but had impressed anyway.

((OOC: Sorry this is all of a sudden. I'm ending this Thread so that we can go on with the Graduation. I do apologize if we did not get to your character(s). The idea of interviews is better than actually rping them out. I'll try to think of a better way next time. Thank you all for your patience and support. I'll be posting the Graduation thread tomorrow))
