"Okay, so I think I have it this time." Toyi said, aloud, sitting on the edge of her Weyr's ledge, heels tapping out a rhythm on the stone below, the thuds from each impact traveling up through her shins.
Alright, lets hear it then. Alyrath said, curled up on the stone ledge just behind her tall rider, tail dribbling off the edge. They were both enjoying the early morning sunlight, before most of the Weyr was stirring, watching the first rays filtering through the treetops. It was rather humid, as was typical, making for a nice, aromatic, cool morning. Give it a few hours and the sweltering heat was going to set in. Just as soon as Rukbat got up in the sky to beat down on them all.
Toyi cleared her throat once, and Alyrath tilted her head. Again, Toyi cleared her throat, and then started, both heels tapping out a spirited rythem.
"Take me to the south.
Sweet fruit pie, shut my mouth
Gone with the wind,
not ever looking back again.
"Swim across the river
Just to prove that I can
Spend the day being lazy
Just being a dragon's friend!
"Oh play me some movin music
Like we all know you can
Play some back home, come on music
That comes from the heart
Play somethin with lots of feelin'
Cause that's where music has to start!
"Oh play me some movin music
Like we all know you can play!
Then I'll float on down the river
To a secret hide away!"
She tapped her feet a few more times, and then stilled, looking up at her dragon's face. "And?"
Your beat is off. But otherwise ... I like it. Alyrath said. It is a shame that you won't share your voice with others. I think they would like it too. she said, sincerely.
Toyi blushed fiercely. "You know I can't do that." She said, quietly, looking down past her toes, palms resting on the stone beside her knees.
You only think you can't. You have a very nice voice, mine.
Toyi only heaved a sigh, and shook her head. It was a disagreement that they had often ... and it never went anywhere. Alyrath would not push Toyi to it, and Toyi would not do it.
It was bad enough that, out here on the ledge, anyone in the next weyr over might hear her. It had taken a lot of convincing on Alyrath's part to get Toyi to try out her just for kicks songs at home, instead of on the top of a yonder mountain where no one but the wild would hear her.
They were completely fictitious, all of them. Not a single harper twist to them at all, no histories, no practical knowledge. Just ... for fun. Toyi had no training, so that was all it would be.
